STEWARDSHIP CORNER

Sharing Time, Talent and Treasure

In today’s first reading, the Israelites are urged to love their neighbors as themselves. In the Gospel, Jesus spells out how we are to do that — to give generously to those who ask of us and not turn our backs on those who seek to borrow (Our Sunday Visitor, ibid., page 11).

The Collection for Feb. 15/16 = $10,613 The Attendance for Feb. 15/16 = 1,305

Final CMA Numbers for 2020 Goal = $99,400 Pledges = $13,620 Payments = $8,100 Donors = 61 Average = $223

“…let us stand beside our brothers and sisters in need, sharing our spiritual and material goods with them.”

- Pope Francis

Almsgiving in Lent

During the Lenten Season we are asked to pray, fast and give alms.

Lent is a perfect time for us to pray for those in need - whether it is for their material, emotional or spiritual needs. And when you practice fasting and

abstinence during these forty days, please remember those of our neighbors who are hungry, and consider sharing your gifts with them.

One way to do this is by making a gift to the Catholic Ministries Appeal, which supports programs that help to feed people in our community each year through

Catholic Charities and our Parish Outreach programs.

Have you thought about “fasting” from a regular purchase of something – i.e., a hand-crafted beverage? Over a 10 month period, this simple “fast” can serve many

people need!

$6.25 a week for one month is $25 -- over 10 months it is $250.

For more information about the Catholic Ministries Appeal, please visit CatholicMinistriesAppeal.org or call 516-678-5800 ext. 296.

3rd Grade Girls Basketball Team Wins CYO Sportsmanship Award

The newly formed Corpus Christi 3rd Grade Girls basketball team won the coveted CYO of Nassau/Suffolk - Sportsmanship Award for their division as voted by the other coaches in the league. The award is considered CYO’s highest honor and exemplifies the best in team sport play. The team is coached by Jim Scott and the girls were given their medals at a ceremony at the end of January. It was the first time any of these girls played organized basketball and they showed great improvement as the season went on.

A great big thank you to all who were so generous in supporting the Sisters of St. Dominic with their raffle sales this past weekend. The Sisters really enjoyed meeting the wonderful people of Corpus Christi and hearing their stories about Sisters they have known. They also greatly appreciated Fr. Malcolm and his kind words regarding their being such a large part of the Parish School for so many years. We are most grateful.

A message for our current Extraordinary Ministers of

Holy Communion

We are in need of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to bring the Eucharist to our sick and homebound parishioners. Our sick and homebound group of parishioners is growing and our need is expanding to meet this important ministry. The amount of time and commitment needed to be dedicated to this ministry is not large, perhaps 20-30 minutes a week.

Please prayerfully consider this request to bring the Body of Christ to those in our parish who can’t be with us at Mass. If you wish to enhance your existing Eucharist Ministry by volunteering to bring the Eucharist to the sick and homebound, please contact Parish Outreach at 516-248-4858 or the Rectory office at 516-746-1223.

We gratefully appreciate your consideration. Seventh Week of Ordinary Time

& The Beginning of Lent On the Seventh Week of Ordinary Time, Jesus gives us one of the biggest challenges to living the Christian life: Love Your Enemies. “I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on your right cheek, turn the other one as well.” We have only three days of the Seventh Week of Ordinary Time. Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent.
