Masonic Terms Defined Libertine—Masonically, refers to a freethinker, a non-conformist, one who subscribes to no higher authority in his thinking. Profane—Masonically, means “not a Mason” — it comes from Latin pro meaning before and fanum a temple; a profane is one “outside of the temple,” uninitiated.

March, 2017 Trestleboard

The 218th Regular Communication of Eureka-DuPont Lodge No. 23-29 will be held at the Brandywine Masonic Temple, 2016 Foulk Road in Wilmington, Delaware on Thursday, Mar 9, 2017. The reading of the minutes, correspondence, payment of bills, reception of petitions, Masonic birthdays and all other business as may be lawfully brought before the Lodge will be transacted.

Jay Troy, Worshipful Master

Attest: Rollyn Trueblood, Secretary

If you need a ride, please don’t hesitate to contact

one of the officers listed in this trestle board, and we

will make arrangements to get you here.

March Masonic Birthdays

Brothers, last month was our scheduled

Grand Staff Visitation, and due to the

potential inclement weather we had to

proactively cancel. We have moved the

Grand Visit to our April meeting.

This month should prove to be a fun

month - reading a new member

petition , voting on a new member, and

having our First Annual BIG MASONIC

TRIVIA CHALLENGE. There will be

prizes and fun for everyone. Lodge will

be held on the EA degree so all Masons

are welcome—bring a friend. This is a

good chance to prove your masonic

mettle, learn a few new things, win

some cool prizes, and have a few laughs.

Some of our brothers have recently

begun work on their Royal Arch degrees,

and I congratulate them on that fine

work .

If you haven’t been to lodge in a while,

please consider coming out again. We

would love to have you back in your

lodge. So Mote It Be!

From the East Arts, Parts, and Points

Frequently the student in Masonry will

encounter words and phrases in the course

of degrees which have little or no

explanation. Definitions have faded over the

years until today a once-detailed lecture has

become simply a few words. That Masonic

tradition has it that in 926 King Athelstan

called all the operative masons in England to

meet with him in York. Many days of

discussion took place in an effort to right the

wrongs and inequities which then existed

towards the masons who were engaged in

many activities for the king. It is said, “He

began to build many abbeys, monasteries,

and other religious houses, as also diverse

fortresses for the defense of his realm.

From this meeting came 15 points and 15

articles over the course of the years, three

articles and three points have disappeared

leaving only 12 each. These points have now

become known as the Twelve Original Points.

The usage and original meanings have

changed over the years.

191 Years in Masonry Combined!!

Come to Lodge in celebration of your

Masonic Birthdays Brothers!

Monthly Message The following appeared in the English lectures

prior to 1813:

“There are in Freemasonry Twelve Original

Points which form the basis of the system and

comprise the whole ceremony of initiation.

Without the existence of these points, no man

ever was, or can be legally and essentially be

received into the Order. Every person who is

made a mason must go through these 12

forms and ceremonies, not only in the first

degree when every subsequent one.”

“Each of these points became symbolized by

one of 12 tribes of the Hebrews. The points

and tribes are grouped as follows: Opening the

Lodge, Reuben; Preparation of the Candidate,

Simeon; Report of the Senior Deacon, Levi;

Entrance of the Candidate, Judah; The Prayer,

Zebulum; The Circumambulation, Issachar;

Advancing to the Altar, Dan; The Obligation,

Gad; Instruction of the Candidate, Asher;

Investiture of the Lambskin, Naphtali;

Ceremony of the Northeast Corner, Joseph;

Closing of the Lodge, Benjamin.”

“Today some jurisdictions use the words ‘Arts,

Parts, and Points’ in their ritual. The ‘points’

have been explained. The ‘Arts’ means

‘knowledge of things made known’. In

addition to the division into degrees, ‘parts’ is

also an old word for degrees and lectures.”
