Pending Kouroukian (PI) ACS RSG-126952 (Resubmission) 10/15/2015 $165,000, Direct costs Y1 Explaining excess cancer mortality among patients with mental illness This mixed methods study
examines process and quality of care measures that may contribute to cancer-related disparities in disabled and older Medicare beneficiaries with mental illness. Using database analysis, and qualitative interviewing/analysis we plan to identify Points of Failure (POFs) at which an intervention would likely mitigate suboptimal outcomes. This application received an “outstanding” score in the initial submission. Co-Investigator (.10 FTE). Implement intensive interviewing of mental health providers, patients, and caregivers, qualitative analysis, and manuscript development.

Flocke (PI) $1,500,000 total direct costs PCORI Improving Healthcare Systems: Spring 2015 Using a teachable moment communication process to improve outcomes of quitline referrals. Expected start 11/01/15-10/31/18. Cluster randomized control study designed to improve delivery of smoking cessation advice and assistance among socially and economically disadvantaged patients. This study tests a system-based implementation of the TMCP to improve patient reported outcomes, and the proportion of patients referred to a tobacco quitline that are successfully contacted and initiate treatment. Co-investigator (.10 FTE) Study and intervention design, clinician training, data analysis and manuscript production.

Design & Test of the Positive Peers Mobile App for HIV Care Retention
HRSA-15-029: Use of Social Media to Improve Engagement, Retention, and Health Outcomes along the HIV
Care Continuum. Application submitted 4/3/15 for project period 09/01/2015 through 08/31/2019 This project will provide and evaluate a private social media based community to residents of Northeast Ohio who have been diagnosed with HIV. Mixed methods demonstration project aims to accelerate mobility along the HIV care continuum by engaging youth (13-24) and young adults (25-34) living with HIV in the care experience. Co-Investigator (.15 FTE) Social media specialist, outcome evaluation, manuscript production and dissemination. Flocke (PI) $296,211. Direct costs Y1 Measurement of Nicotine Dependence Among Adolescent Cigarillo Users. Submitted in response to PA-13-302, Risk, Prevention and Intervention for Addictions (RPIA). 07/01/2015 - 06/30/2019. Mixed methods project aimed at developing a measure of nicotine dependence that is valid and
reliable for cigarillos, cigars and little cigars (CCLC) users. Co-Investigator (.10 FTE) activities include item
development, cognitive interviewing, data analysis and manuscript development.
