Children were nominated by their peers and gave speeches as to why they should be elected. On the 18th September an Election Day was held and Mr Adams, one of the school Governors provided a real ballot box to use at our polling station. Well done to everyone that put themselves forward! The School Council are currently looking at developing the KS2 yard and new playground equipment has been purchased after consulting each class.

Parent Workshops

Parent Workshops have been held linked to reading, maths and phonics. Please look out for more Parent Workshops next term focussing on maths, ICT and writing. At the last informal parents evening parents were asked for their views on areas that needs develop-ing and some of the points made have already been addressed. For example, Parents are now in-formed via text message if their children have received an award in the Celebration Assembly on Fri-day. Parents are also invited to both KS1 and KS2 celebration assemblies. The school Council is working on playground equipment for KS2. There is a pot of money that has been raised through various events involving parents and we would like your views on how to spend it. The three options are playground equipment, enrichment activi-ties or a school defibrillator. You can rank your choices using this website link https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/99BP8TY or go to the home page of the Marsden website.

Attendance Attendance has been good. Remember we are aiming for at least 95% in each year group. The over-all attendance since the start of the year has been 97.1%. The breakdown for the classes are as follows:

There have been 92 lates since the start of the year so please make an extra effort to get up on time and be at school before the bell rings!

Blue Peter Badges There has been a new wave of Blue Peter Badge winners since September. So the tradition is being maintained. Here they are:

Grand opening of KS 1 Playground The children in Key Stage 1 love their new playground and on Friday the 10th October there was a grand opening which over 40 parents attended. The ribbon was cut by Muhammed Rayhan Aamir in 2F , who was celebrating his 7th birthday. Afterwards the parents enjoyed refreshments and helped their children plant a daffodil bulb. We owe our thanks to Townley Garden Centre in Burnley for donating the flowers and bulbs for the new wooden tubs. This is what the children had to say about their need yard. ‘I like the quiet area because I can sit with my friends’ Qaif Year 2. ‘The ship is my favourite place because I can play captains’ Jessica Yr 2. ‘I can tell funny stories on the story telling chair’ Aleeza Yr 1.

Leading Parent Partnership Award Marsden Primary School were re-assessed for the Leading Parent Partnership Award on Wednesday 17th September 2014. The school were last re-assessed for this award on the 17th March 2011. Evidence on the day of verification was presented through a discussion with the head teacher and LPPA coordinator, tour of the school and meetings with governors, parents, staff and pupils. The full report will soon be available soon on the school’s website for parents to view, but here is an extract from the verifiers report. The mini portfolio was very extensive, well organised and clearly presented. Along with the website it provided a comprehensive range of evidence to show how the school is still meeting the Objectives and Key Performance Indicators of the LPPA. In particular there is strong evidence to show that: Driven by the vision of the current head teacher, provision of support for parents with an ethos of involving parents is embedded in school practice. The senior leadership share this vision and provided clear evidence of their role in supporting parental involvement. Marsden Primary continually strives to engage parents with supporting their child’s learning. This has been and continues to be strategically planned, with an increasing focus on supporting the learning of children and their families from the school. . There is a large number of events, workshops and courses to encourage a wide range of parents to engage in school activities. ‘A strong relationship exists between the school and parents. The parent support adviser is an excellent link between home and school,’ (Ofsted October, 2013). We are delighted that we have been awarded the Leading Parent Partnership Award for a further 3 years. Thank you to all the parents, pupils and staff for their continuing enthusiasm to work as part of a team to better the educational experience of the whole school community.

You can see more pictures from the grand opening on our school website.
