605 REARING CALVES Auctioneers : Ben Baggott (07791 791356) & Jonty Cliffe (07595 453306) Big numbers once again through the calf ring and a similar trade to last week with harvesting still taking priority. Friesians and Natives a super trade, while the medium and small Continentals have been a little easier. The beef and store prices remain high, so it’s going to be an interesting month ahead to see if the pre harvest calf trade returns. As previously stated the Friesians saw a better trade today with several rearing buyers in attendance, averaging £70.88. Best bulls at £120 to £150 topping at £148 for Mr S.R. Nash, Stoke-On-Trent. Medium bulls at £65 to £100, smalls at £35 to £55. The best Continental bulls still in very high demand at £290 to £340, topping at £368 for a Blue from G. Green & Son, Lach Dennis. Medium bulls a good buy on the day trading at £200 to £240 and younger plainer sorts at £150 to £180. Native bull trade still on fire with a good average when you consider there are a lot of young block calving types in the ranks. Strongest types £230 to £280, topping at £335 for an Angus from Ferney Less Farm Ltd, Tarporley. Medium bulls at £140 to £180 while smaller sorts getting away well at £80 to £120. The native heifers very similar to the bull trade with some good averages for the time of year. The best trading at £170 to £200 topping at £230 for Angus from Mr S.W. Bailey, Stafford. Medium heifers at £120 to £150 while smalls traded at £50 to £80. Continental heifers a fair trade, but worth buying today as the mediums would be less than in recent weeks. The best at £230 to £280 topping at £388 for a Blue from TL Sherwin Ltd, Stanthorne. Medium heifers at £140 to £180 and smalls at £80 to £120. Only half a dozen weanlings including £435 a Blue bull from Mr J. Stanier, Milwich and Friesian bulls to £180 for RA Harrison Farms, Wem. All enquiries to Ben or Jonty.
