A massive thanks to Mr Gary Mycock from Geoff Mycock & Sons for agreeing to judge the pigs today. He was presented with some very strong classes with the gilts class having over twenty pens to judge. Gary selected E.D. Davies & Sons, Anglesey gilts as Champion and later backed his judgement and purchased them at 340p (£302.60). Also thanks to all our regular buyers and vendors as well and our staff for all your effort throughout the year.

All pigs a joy to sell today with plenty of pigs at 140p to 160p topping at 178p from The Bradshaw Boys, Alkington and E.D. Davies & Son, Anglesey. No end of vendors 150p plus too many to mention but well done to you all. Second quality pigs selling well also at 120p to 135p/kg with only really coloured or very heavy pigs at 70p to 100p/kg. £2,020 Top At Drayton December Mid-Month Sale The best heifers sold to £2,020 at the December mid-month sale at Market Drayton Market. The top price of £2,020 was for a calved heifer from Goss Bros of Bicester, Oxfordshire. The first prize calved heifer from T.& R.J.&AT. Goodyer of Moss Pit sold for £1,900.

Swedish bred calved heifers from CMS Livestock of Newport sold to £1,800 and £1,700. The best price for the dispersal of Andrew Shaw and Ian Newton’s commercial herd from Middlewich was £1,790 for a second calver. Incalf heifers sold to £1,000 and yearling heifers to £830.

Play resumes on Wednesday 1 January and I believe cattle with be wanted but please ring for clarification! Back to today and did not quite get to my magical two hundred mark but very pleased with numbers forward. It was not a day about headline prices with the focus on loin rather than shape and I am extremely pleased to report a very brisk trade resumed throughout with demand for all weights and grades. Twinkle, twinkle little star moments returned at 228p for heifers, 228p for steers and 226p for bulls. 102 Bulls - Good number forward for the time of the season and some real festive cheer around the ring resulting in some very spirited bidding. Sucklers peaked at 226p (£1,360.52) for a Limousin from Mr Bernard Parsons, Golden Hill Lane and further bulls to 210p (£1,260.00), 205p (£1,320.20) and 192p (£1,263.36). Mr Richard Shore, Churton sold Limousins to 217p (£1,302.00) and 215p (£1,367.40). £2,150 Top - 6 Over £2,000-Top 10 Heifers Av.£2,013 £2,150 was the top price at Drayton today where numbers of fresh cattle are consistently averaging around seventy per week with all finding pastures new. C. Whitticase & Son of St Martins consigned the top priced heifer at £2,150. Other heifers over the £2,000 barrier came from D. & E. Monk, Lancashire (£2,100), Lloyd Thomas, Carmarthen (£2,060), Mr M. Trevor-Jones, Middleton (£2,040 and £2,000), W.A. Jones & Son, Fenns Bank (£2,000). W.A. Jones & Son also received £1,950 and £1,920 for other heifers. Mr Richard Lewis, Carmarthen sold to £1,960 and Stubbs Partners, Whitgreave sold to £1,950. The stronger sorts sold for a premium over others but trade still pleasing with plenty of customers around the ring with a total of fifty-six different buying accounts. Friesian bulls well sold today with a few more rearing on offer at £100 plus topping at £128 from L. & A. Fitton & Sons, Adbaston. Mediums at £60 to £90. Best of the processing sorts at £40 to £50, mediums £30 to £40 and smalls generally £18 to £28. A great little trade for native bulls today with the best at £160 to £200 plus topping at £225 for a Hereford from Shortwood Dairy Ltd, Standon and Angus to £220 twice for Mr J.W. Wright, Knutsford. Medium bulls at £100 to £140 and smaller ones at mainly £80 plus. Good demand for Continental heifers today with the best at £180 to £230 topping at £300 for Blues from both P.C. & S.G. Thelwell, Nantwich and T.S. & A.E. Hartley, Mere. Medium heifers at £140 to £170 and younger sorts at £80 plus. Native heifers a sharper trade today especially for mediums. It brings Decembers total to 356, which is 180 more than we managed in the same month last year. We’d like to thank all the support which has been received from both buyers and sellers this year, and we are excited about the new beginnings on a Monday in 2020. With more penning space, room to load and a set sale time we are confident that the Weanling section will continue to go from strength to strength. Now to todays trade, considering were just a week from Christmas day I think vendors will be happy with their days trading. With 28 successful buyers there was plenty of competition and the majority were well sold. In the bulls we saw best Continentals sell for £400+ topping at £490 for 5mo Blues from P.J. & F.P. Bridge, Cockshutt. A lovely trio of 5mo Limousins from R.W. Longton & Son, Hatton sold for £430. Who also sold 8 month Friesian bulls to £430, and R.W. Adams & Son, Stoke-on-Tern sold to £400. Only nine Continental steers which sold to £500 for 6 month Blues from Messrs P.L. Wood, a group of Limousin from K. Oliver & Son, Congleton made £470. Best natives were £300+ with a top price of £470 for 9 month Herefords from K. Oliver & Son. Another large entry of heifers, with an incredible 52 Blues, which topped at £565 for 12 month from R.P. & S.R. Williams, Marchwiel. Next were a group of 6 month at £490 for Mr P.L. Wood. Best Natives were £250-£300, selling to £395 for 10mo from K. Oliver & Son, Congleton with £305 next for Mr P.L. Wood and £300 for J.T. & J. Forrester, Dilhorne. The first sale of 2020 is Monday 20
