Application for DNS Course, Feb 2019 (Last Date of submitting SCI online application form is 04.01.2019, 1700 hrs)

The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) invites application from eligible,

unmarried and medically fit male/female candidates, Indian nationals, who

are desirous of pursuing a career at merchant navy, for the DNS course

leading to B.Sc. (Applied Nautical Science) for February 2019 Batch at

Maritime Training Institute (MTI), Powai, Mumbai.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION:

a) Pass in 10+2 examination from a recognized Board with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics (PCM) with not less than 60% marks .Students who have appeared for 10+2 examination and waiting for results are also eligible to apply subject to their securing 60% marks in PCM prior commencement to course).

OR

b) Pass in B.Sc (PCM)/B.sc (Electronics with Physics as individual subject in one of the years) with marks not less than 60%. from a recognized University.

OR

c) B.E. / B. Tech. degree from a college recognized by AICTE with marks not less than 50%

AND

Minimum 50% marks in English in any of the above examinations. For SC/ST candidates there

will be 5% relaxation in eligibility marks. However the 5% relaxation will not apply to marks in

English .

Not more than 25 Years (as on 01.02.2019). SC / ST candidates will be

granted age relaxation of 5years.

AGE LIMIT:

MEDICAL STANDARD AND EYE SIGHT:

Candidate must have good health and be fit for sea service as per existing MS Medical

Examination Amendment rules 2016 / MLC 2006 applicable to seafarers. Standard as

mentioned below:

1. Height: Minimum 157 cms or as per the DGS Guidelines. Reduction in height for the

candidates from hilly and tribal areas will be in accordance with DGS/Govt. guidelines.

2. Weight: Proportionate to height and age.

3. Hearing: Normal.

4. Visual Standard: 6/6 (Normal Eye). Defective colour vision (Colour Blindness) will NOT be

accepted.

Note: Medical fitness check will be done by our empanelled DG approved Doctors and

No waiver will be given for the above standard. Candidates not meeting above

standards should not apply.

For the TNOC course, there is no reservation for persons with disabilities as mentioned in

the Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995.

DURATION OF COURSE AND ONBOARD TRAINING:

Course: 12 months Pre-Sea Training course followed by 18 months of Structured

Shipboard Training as TNO (Deck Cadet) under Indian Maritime University (IMU) –

Directorate General of Shipping (D G Shipping) project, leading to Degree in B. Sc.

(Nautical Science) to be conducted at Maritime Training Institute at Powai (Mumbai),

Commencement of course: 01.02.2019 (Tentative)

The selection of candidates is only for DNS course & shipboard training to facilitate

completion of requisite sea-time for DNS course, and the shipping corporation of India does

not have obligation or does not guarantee any further employment or extension of ship board

training. However, the company at sole discretion, depending on the availability of vacancy

in its fleet may employ cadets after successful completion of DNS course & obtaining the 2nd

mate certificate of competency issued by Directorate General of Shipping, Govt. of India,

SELECTION PROCEDURE & ON-LINE EXAMINATION

All interested candidates must appear and qualify Indian Maritime University

(IMU) Common Entrance Test (CET) which is mandatory for admission at MTI

Powai. Final selection will be purely on the merit list of IMU CET Results.

1. Date, time and venue of IMU CET Examination are normally intimated through personal e-

mail ID and by logging on to IMU website www.imu.edu.in . Candidates shall take a printout

of the admit card available online.

2. Eligible candidates, who do not receive call letters/ intimation for IMU examination, are

required to take print of hall ticket from the IMU’s website & report along with proper

identification and passport size photograph at the IMU examination centres on the day of

the examination.

2. Print the HALL TICKETS for IMU-CET from IMU Website

3. Fill-up the Online Application Form for MTI admission before 04.01.2019 (1700 hrs). at

4. Send the scan copies of the documents mentioned in Annex-I to us through email at

mti@sci.co.in mentioning “DNS Admission – your name” in the subject of the email. (Size

of documents mentioned in the Annex-I in email shall be below 2 MB)

5. Appear for IMU-CET computer based examination at your respective Examination Centres

as per Hall Ticket.

6. Visit SCI website www.shipindia.com -> Careers -> MTI Notifications -> Selection of TNOC

for DNS 2019 February Batch.

7. Check for results of qualifying CET at IMU-Website: www.imu.edu.in

8. Check results of selection of candidates for admission at SCI-Website: www.shipindia.com -> Careers -> MTI Notifications.

All Instructions, reporting notices, any modifications / amendments in the advertisement will

be notified in the above website only.

Terms and conditions

1. Final merit list will be prepared as per the ranks obtained in IMU-CET.

2. Candidates having their Name Published in SCI Merit List on SCI website have to report

3. Reporting dates will be notified to selected candidates by either of the means viz. E-mail /

Phone / website updates.

4. The Company will not provide any lodging, boarding, travelling or any other incidental

expenses to the candidates incurred during admission process.

5. SCI-MTI reserves the complete right towards final selection / rejection of the candidates for

DNS course at any stage during the training and/or selection procedure.

GENERAL INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTION:

1. Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply.

2. No application fee is payable to SCI.

3. It is mandatory that the candidates should have a valid e-mail id and mobile number while

applying in order to facilitate faster communication. All future communications and

correspondences will be through emails and / or our official website only.

4. If any information provided by the candidate is found to be false or incorrect or not in

conformity with the eligibility criteria, then his / her candidature is liable to be rejected at any

stage of the selection process or after selection or joining.

5. No modifications are allowed after submission of the online application form. Incomplete

application form in any particulars may be liable to be rejected. Write NA whichever is not

applicable.

6. The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. reserves the right to change the number of

vacancies and cancel / restrict / modify / alter the admission process, if required, without

issuing any further notice or assigning any reason thereof.

7. SCI engages cadets directly through its own schemes and has not authorized any person to

engage cadets/trainees on its behalf. .

8. Final selection subject to Candidate producing original valid documents at the time of final
