Boiler Surveys andInspectionOur team of highly qualified andexperienced personnel offer a full andcomprehensive worldwide inspection andreporting service for industrial and marineboiler plants, turbines, steam chests andvalves using state-of-the-art inspectionequipment and procedures.

Fibre Optic InspectionsApart from normal visual inspection,internal tube inspections are carried outusing fibre optic equipment, which isfitted with a video copy processor capableof recording and printing any framedisplayed on the screen.

BoilersBoiler Troubleshootingand ModellingBy adopting a scientific approach totroubleshooting, we are able to resolveeven the most complex and exclusiveissues, including efficiency improvementand redesign whilst still maintaining aremarkably high success rate.

Our boiler performancecomputer modelling facilityenables us to set up asimulated model of a boilerand assess an infinite numberof operating variables.

The effect of major changes in theheating surface or boiler geometry can beassessed in a matter of minutes, makingour equipment an extremely powerfulproblem solving tool.

NDE ProceduresThe inspection process can includevarious NDE procedures such as:• Magnetic particle inspection• Ultrasonic thickness gauging• Hardness testing• Tensile testing• Replica grain analysis

Reports and InspectionsThe reports generated from inspectionscan form the basis of repair specificationsused for classification and underwritingrequirements, or form a database forfuture condition monitoring. Many of the problems inherent in a boilerplant are caused by errors of judgementand short cuts taken in the originaldesign of the boiler. By correctlyspecifying the equipment from theoutset we can prevent such problemsfrom occurring. In addition, ourindependent assessment of the plant canidentify design flaws, which can berectified prior to the boiler coming on-line.

If you are planning on purchasing a newboiler we are happy to liaise with you atall stages of the boiler construction. Wecan either design and build your newboiler from scratch or operateindependently in the supervision of itsdesign and construction.

Boiler Circulation AnalysisGlobally, we are the only steam engineerswho can independently assess theinternal water circulation of any sub-critical boiler.

Our computer based circulation modellingfacility has been extensively field tested,with both conventional primary elementflow measurement equipment, andradioactive tracer techniques carried outby the Australian Atomic EnergyCommission.

Harris Pye Steam BoilersThese boilers, which are intendedprimarily for use on marine installations,can easily be adapted and modified foruse in any number of applications wherethere is a requirement for power and / orprocess steam.

Each boiler package will be custom-designed to meet the requirements ofindividual customers. We can undertakeall aspects of the design in-house. Theseinclude - but are not limited to - thermaldesign and associated activities, skid andmodule design and layout, includingstress analysis, as well as navalarchitecture requirements.

Harris Pye will be responsible for allaspects of design engineering,manufacture, installation andcommissioning, including aftercare of theboilers and all associated module plantand equipment.

All boilers are designed and manufacturedin accordance with ASME and BPVC codes.

The boilers and associated equipment areavailable either fully assembled or in flatpack form from the Harris Pyemanufacturing facilities in the UK, China,UAE, Singapore or Brazil, to service theemerging FPSO markets in these regions.

Swaged TubesHarris Pye can offer manufacturingfacilities for Swaged tubes for oil firedauxiliary and main boilers. These include'Miura' type tubes and tubes for 'D' typemain and auxiliary boilers.

Extended Heating Surfaces -Oil Fired BoilersHarris Pye offers comprehensive designand manufacturing facilities for bothplain tube and extended surface exhaustgas economiser assemblies. Extendedsurface configurations include single anddouble 'H' gilled, spiral wound and pintype tubes.

Helical Solid FinHelical solid fin tube is produced onstate-of-the-art, high frequency spiral fintube welding machines. Tube sizes rangefrom 25 mm to 115 mm OD and can befound with a range of fin heights from10-25 mm on varying pitches. This coversvirtually all configurations found inmarine service today.

'H' FINPairs of parallel shaped steel fins areresistance welded to the single pressuretube surface under carefully controlledconditions. The purpose built weldingmachine ensures precision indexing alongthe entire length of the tube and exactparallel attachment.

Steel 'H' fin was introduced in the 1950sdue to the requirement for reliability indirty and potentially corrosiveenvironments, specifically associatedwith waste heat units fitted to theuptakes of large diesel engines. Withdeteriorating fuel quality, this isparticularly crucial to the marine industry.

The 'H' design reduces draft loss andallows straight-through flow of gas overthe unit. Both of these factors facilitate aself-cleaning effect, which greatlyreduces fouling and the potential fordamaging and sometimes catastrophicsoot fires. The compact design of theseunits can realise a 50% saving in spacecompared to plain tube designs. This isanother important consideration in theever increasing necessity for space andweight savings.

HP Economiser RangeThe 'HP' Economiser range is specificallydesigned to recover the waste heat inboiler exhaust gases, and to transfer asmuch energy as possible to the incomingboiler feed water stream by pre-heatingthe water before it enters the boiler. Thedesign and construction of the HPEconomiser lends itself to installation intomost boiler exhaust gas outlet ducts. HPhigh efficiency tube banks are purpose-designed units, constructed from selectedfinned steel tubing, manufactured onHarris Pye's own specialised, in-house'Spiral' and 'H' type tube finningmachines.

HP Economisers are designed andconstructed under strict QualityAssurance to meet the highestinternational standards. They can becomprised of standard carbon steel orhigh corrosion resistant materialsallowing for the highest possible heatrecovery with the longest life expectancy.This enables the continued minimisationof your energy costs.

Harris Pye is a key player in structuralsteelwork, with our own in house design,engineering, fabrication, installation andquality departments. This allows us toprovide full turnkey project packages toclients.

We have our own (class approved) cutting,welding and fabrication procedures, whicheliminates the need for any additionalcosts to our clients. We use the highestquality and grades of materials to ensurewe meet the requirements of our clientsand also classification society approval.

Within the rolling department, there aretwo sets of plate rolls able to roll from5mm up to 65mm thickness over a 3mwidth, and able to pre-bend 55mm plate.There is also a section roll able to rollpipes up to 6 inches schedule 80, flat barand a variety of steel preformed sections.

We have two Pedrazzoli tube bendingmachines, with the capacity to bend to amaximum of 76mm OD X 6mm wall, aswell as various tube reshaping andpressing machines.

The welding section has an Armcocolumn and boom submerged arc-welding machine that can competentlyweld 4.5m in diameter, over a 6m trackwith roll manipulators. Our manualwelding capabilities are extensive, withhundreds of coded welders and weldingprocedures, coupled with semi-automaticcapabilities.

In addition, we have our own, in-houseblasting bay and separate temperaturecontrolled paint bay, and within our mainworkshop we have segregated stainlesssteel pipework and fabrication shops. Thefacility also operates in-house heattreatment, conducted by qualifiedtechnicians using the latest technology.

The storage facility contains over £2million worth of certified boiler tube,which allows Harris Pye to react quickly toany work scopes without the usual 6week procurement requirement. Alsostocked in the warehouse are thestandard tools, consumables and PPE toenable the mobilisation of 200 personnelanywhere across the globe, without delay.

The stainless steel fabrication unit is aself-contained building within the site. Itundertakes a full range of fabrications,from bespoke galleys to CNC lasercutting, CNC punching, pressing andfolding. The experienced stainless steeldivision can design, fabricate and installall manner of stainless steel productsglobally.

Mechanical ServicesEngine OverhaulHarris Pye can offer a full overhaul andreconditioning service for all types ofengines. The service can be provided viariding squads, or at our fully equippedglobal workshops, operated by fullytrained and experienced repairtechnicians.

Propeller ServiceWe provide a 24 hour service with highlyskilled and travelled service engineers,who have vast experience globally on C.PPropellers and O/D box surveys andrenewals.

Other Mechanical ServicesHarris Pye also offer a full range ofmechanical services including pumpoverhaul, generator refurbishment as wellas chemical cleaning.

In-Situ MachiningUsing our own portable grindingequipment, we can offer on-sitereconditioning of the following items:liner landing faces, entablature landingfaces, and valve pocket landing faces. Weare also able to machine, in-situ, all typesof valves including inlet, exhaust andstarting air types.

ElectricalSwitchgearMaintenance and servicing of marinecontrol and instrumentation is the coreactivity of Harris Pye. Our engineers havea wealth of experience in pneumatic andelectronic control systems in marine andland-based industries. We can offerservice and repairs to all types of controlequipment.

The servicing of high voltage electricalequipment and switchboards is of aspecialised nature. The competence ofour engineering staff means that we canundertake a wide scope of works,including:• Switchboard surveys• Thermographic imaging• Servicing / calibration of protection

Green TechnologyHarris Pye’s New Product divisionsupplies and installs environmentallyfriendly and efficient systems, such asdeck boilers, low sulphur technology(LDSO), Ballast Water systems, ExhaustGas Scrubbing and heat exchangers.These services help our clients to meetthe highest standards for lowenvironmental impact.

Ballast Water TreatmentHarris Pye offers both planning andsystem selection for Ballast WaterTreatment. This is designed to give vesselowners an objective overview of the costsand work involved in fitting the mostsuitable system for the vessel, beforeselecting a treatment.

Exhaust Gas ScrubbingWe are particularly active in the vital areaof low sulphur diesel oil (LSDO)conversions. Marpol (InternationalConvention for the prevention of Pollutionfrom Ships) stipulates Annex VI, whichlimits NOX and SOX emissions from shipexhausts. We have undertaken work onover 130 ships on behalf of almost 40major international clients. Conversionsare offered as turnkey packages.

Low Sulphur TechnologySpecially designed components such aspumps, filters, burner tips and flame eyesare required to ensure efficient, safe andreliable operation of boilers. To this end,our LST proposal is based on adding anLSDO fuel system parallel to the HFOsystem to the vessel, allowing theoperator to change fuel mediums safelyand efficiently.

LNG ProjectsThe range of services we offer to the LNGindustry encompasses inspection andconsulting, as well as repair and overhaulof all ship machinery. This includes mainand auxiliary engines, cargo accessequipment, steam plants and boilers,automation, electrical repairs and weldingof sophisticated materials, as well as pipeand steel work.

Our teams carry out inspections andmaintenance work on cargo and spraypumps, gas compressors, turbo-alternator turbines, forced draft fans,vacuum pumps, steam armatures, mainturbine, gears and other equipment.

Our service engineers and repair teamshave extensive experience in working onLNG vessels. Voyage repairs,maintenance work and periodicalinspections can be carried out during theships' trade route. We can also completerepairs and work on board LNG carriersduring scheduled dry-docking on theowners' account, as well as in co-operation with the various shipyards andmarine equipment manufacturers.

Outfitting CapabilitiesHarris Pye has gained a formidablereputation over the years for the design,manufacture and installation of a myriadof elements, which allows us to providecomplete packages.

We create the right designsolution tailored to client’sindividual needs and budgets.

From our specialist workshops, we cancarry out all elements of themanufacturing process in-house, to thehighest standards. Installations can becarried out by our skilled fitters duringrefits, new builds or whilst in serviceworldwide, via our mobile work squads.

DesignOperating both in marine and land basedenvironments, our outfitting departmentoffers bespoke design concept services toour clients, ensuring that the bestsolution is chosen to meet needs andbudgets. Our in-house design team uses

state-of-the-art, 360 degree scanningequipment and software to designminutely accurate solutions, and createstunning walkthrough 3D designs. Thisnegates errors whilst ensuring fastturnaround.

We work with the client’s contractors,ship builders and managers to arrive atthe most suitable layout, products andcoverings.

Accommodation ModulesThe modules offered by Harris Pye come ina range of sizes: 12.2m/40ft, 9.8m/32ft,7.8m/26ft and 6.1m/20ft. Modules can bemade to accommodate 1, 2, 4 or 8 mendepending on the cabin layouts andnumber of bunks per cabin specified.

Our modules can be delivered with eitherA60 windows or A60 hatches. In addition,all modules are equipped with wet roomsin each cabin. Modules can also be H60fire-rated if required, and are compliantwith current SOLAS regulations.

The standard features of our modulesinclude DNV (BS EN 12079) or ABScertification, HVAC system, A60 or H60fire-rating, fire and gas detection system,sprinkler system, emergency lighting, fullautomatic shutdown (CPFG panels –optional), fire dampers, PA/TV/Tel socketsand connections. Modules can be adaptedto suit a variety of needs including, but notlimited to, galleys, recreation rooms,canteens, laundries, locker rooms andoffices.

Accommodation Outfitting,Galleys and Modules

Accommodation modules can be utilisedas either standalone units or linked andstacked together to form multi-purpose,multi-level accommodation complexes.Linking kits are waterproof, providing awatertight barrier, and are supplied witheach module. The structures are designedto link together efficiently and thusminimise valuable installation time.

Manufacture andInstallationOur highly skilled and experiencedoutfitters ensure that all stages ofprogramming and works undertakencomply with all the latest class andquality assurance regulations. Ourservices are guaranteed accordingly.

Many clients require turnkey packages, soit’s common for our department to workwith other divisions within the Group onlarge projects. This greatly aids theplanning and execution of extensive workscopes.

Installations are carried out both duringvessel refits and whilst the ship is inservice. The latter requires a riding squadof engineers and fabricators. We are wellversed in this practice, with personnel onstandby to travel at short notice and towork at sea for extended periods onscheduled projects.

Galleys and BespokeStainless SteelWe have vast experience of installinggalley equipment on ships worldwide, andworking to tight deadlines.

We design, manufacture andinstall state-of-the-art galleys.

These are completely built on ourpremises so that clients can view theinstallation prior to fitting. Theemergence of Norovirus on cruise vesselshas led to enhanced regulations forhygiene standards on ships. Theseparticularly apply to the construction

methods used to manufacture foodpreparation facilities. Both the UnitedStates Public Health (USPH) and UnitedKingdom Public Health (UKPH) agenciesare placing great emphasis on thesematters. All our marine installationscomply stringently with both USPH andUKPH requirements.

Harris Pye also has an excellent trackrecord in onshore projects – namelystainless steel pipework. Our teams offercomplete solutions, from design andmanufacture to installation, according tothe client’s requirements. The team hascompleted extensive projects, includingfood preparation areas, galley equipment,beverage stations, galley troughs,washrooms, deck clearing stations, barsand pantries.

Marine and OffshoreRefrigeration and HVACRefrigeration Provision Plant /Cold RoomsOur highly qualified and experiencedteam offers a full design service,including insulated cold rooms for chilland deep freeze, and a repair service forall refrigeration equipment - compressors,condensers, evaporators, receivers, oilseparators and more. We use state-of-the-art equipment and deal with all theleading manufacturers, such as Carrier,York, Bitzer and Sabroe Daikin.

Our team can also retrofit refrigerants toconform with the latest legal (flag state)requirements.

Air Conditioning SystemsWe offer full design of new systems orrepair / upgrade of existing systems,including all refrigeration equipment,AHUs (air handling units), ductwork, firedampers, air outlets, insulation (thermaland fire), and full electrical and automaticcontrols, all of which fully conform toclassification requirements.

We offer turnkey chilledwater design, supply andinstallation packages.

We also offer packaged air conditioningunits for engine control rooms, cargocontrol rooms and smaller workshopareas, with a full range of explosion-proof, zone-rated equipment.

Cargo SystemsIn addition to the above, we offerservicing, repair and overhaul forclassification requirements for cooling(primary) for L.P.G. cargo systems andinert gas cooling systems, along with allrefrigerated cargo plants.

HVAC DuctworkOur experienced teams offer full design,manufacture and installation of HVACductwork.

Our system offers excellent thermal andacoustic performance in a fire-safesystem, providing an economical andefficient solution.

We offer pre-insulated spiral woundductwork and bespoke ductwork, allmanufactured in accordance with thelatest ASHRAE guidelines, SOLASRegulations and DW144 specifications.

We offer a system which excels in termsof thermal performance, producingsignificant energy savings whilstremaining durable and suitable for allacoustic applications, with superior soundattenuation.

InsulationOur range of marine products providesexcellent fire, thermal and acousticperformances combined with substantialweight savings. We have an extensiveteam who can install industrial thermalinsulation and cladding to both high andlow temperature piping, containmentvessels and exhaust systems. They canalso provide assistance on plant shutdowns. Our specialist teams offermaintenance of insulated plant andequipment, acoustic insulation solutionsfor noise problems, and passive fireprotection.

We can offer expert assistance and adviceon the design and installation of marinefire divisions. The Group offers access toan extensive knowledge database on

insulation issues associated with criticalareas such as engine rooms, vehicledecks, bulkheads, deckheads andpenetrations.

Our insulation division can provide wholeof life vessel support and maintenancearrangements for fire divisions. Thisincludes the supply and installation ofother fire boundary devices such as doors,dampers and penetrations, profile wrapfire divisions, modular panel systems andhigh temperature exhaust systeminsulation, in compliance withclassification society requirements.

Our team has extensiveexperience within theconventional marine andhigh-speed craft industry.

We have developed insulation solutionsfor structural fire protection, to meetstringent International MaritimeOrganisation, commercial and militarystandards.
