Notes to the Chapel of the Cross Liturgical Calendar

Times and locations of services are indicated on the schedule. All weekday services are held in the Chapel, unless otherwise noted. If you are unable to fulfill your assignment, please arrange for a substitute and report the change to the parish office (919-929-2193) or email info@thechapelofthecross.org. Changes reported by 10:00 a.m. on Wednes-day will be reflected in the Sunday bulletin. If your alternative arrange-ment occurs later in the week, please notify the parish office so that the clergy will be informed.

We are now in Eucharistic Lectionary Year A [Revised Common Lection-ary (RSV) readings listed on each Sunday’s page] & Year Two. Weddings are listed by date and time, and include location. Up-to-date information, as well as any weddings scheduled since this calendar was prepared, and the clergy involved in all weddings, are available in the wedding notebook in the parish office.

The colors for hangings and vestments are Green, Red, Violet, and White. The color and name of the day are indicated for each day on the calendar as appropriate.

At weekday Eucharist, Celebrants are encouraged to use propers for days of optional observance; such optional observance will not affect colors of hangings or vestments.

If you find you cannot be at a service for which you are scheduled, please secure your own replacement from the list of greeters in the calendar and notify the par-ish office (919-929-2193) of the change, before 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, preceding the service.

Nametags and the Box of Greeters Supplies: Are kept in the cupboard, lower left, under the literature rack in the dining room. The card tables for the 5:15 p.m. service should be in the ‘old vestry’, the small room between the Chapel and the parish house. If you do not find it there, you may find one in the dining room.

9:00 a.m., 11:15 a.m., and 5:15 p.m. Services: The Liturgical Calendar lists four names when possible as greeters for every 9:00 a.m. & 11:15 a.m. service (10:00 a.m. during the summer). The names are listed in order of Tower and Table.

The First Two Persons Listed (Tower): Arrive 20 minutes before your service is scheduled to begin and pick up your nametag. Greet people as described below. Please remember to assist any parishioner needing help with ascending the steps into the church. As the first hymn begins, quit your post and take a seat.

If the weather is cold or inclement, stand just inside the door. If the weather is fine, one greeter can stand at the outside door and, if the inside doors are closed, the other can open the door for people entering.After the service, greeters wait beside clergy at each of the doors as people exit. At clergy’s request, escort newcomers to the newcomers’ table.

The Third and Fourth Person Listed (Table): Pick up the box of greeters’ supplies and your nametag, prior to the service, or shortly before the end of the service. Be sure the banner is there. Use the oval table in the dining room. During warm weather, use a card table set up near the lemonade table in the colonnade between the Church and the Chapel. Put out various literature and ask them to fill our the questionnaire. Whenever possible introduce them to other parish members and clergy. Leave completed question-naires in the parish office.
