Rich in Sound, Rich in History, Rich in BeautyThe history of Guitarras Manuel Rodriguez guitars is as rich as the woods from which thesesophisticated, distinctive instruments are crafted.

Still a family-run company, and now under the stewardship of Manuel Rodriguez Jr. –the third generation – since the passing of Manuel Rodriguez Sr. in 2008, ManuelRodriguez guitars are at once imbued with the deepest sense of tradition andwith the forward-thinking air of pushing down 21st century boundaries.

Manuel Rodriguez Sr.'s long, distinguished career resulted in someof the world's finest playing and sounding instruments, withbeauty that has remained unsurpassed. Using only the finestwoods, and hand-forming each to precise tolerances,Rodriguez Sr. developed distinctive guitars fit for theworld’s preeminent artists.

His son, Manuel Rodriguez Jr., has brought hisdynamic and daring business senses to thebrand, getting his family's guitars into thehands of world leaders like Jimmy Carter,supporting charitable organisations, andpromoting ecological sustainabilityissues.

With the mantle of producing the world’sfinest classical guitars passed to Manuel Jr.and Norman Rodriguez following theirfather's death, the brothers continue the tradition of crafting exceptional instruments deserving of the family name.

All Manuel Rodriguez guitars are producedusing time honoured traditional methods,with no detail too minor to merit attention.The guitars are constructed by a team ofluthiers with decades of experience, in a totally moisture-controlled environment, withrepetitive tasks requiring consistent precisionaccomplished using modern woodworkingmachines, many of which have been customdesigned by Manuel Rodriguez to emulatetraditional hand processes. Traditional methods of hand forming and gluing used toensure each guitar achieves the perfection of amaster-built instrument.

Precise tonal balance comes from perfectedproduction techniques and generations ofexperience among Manuel Rodriguez'sluthiers, who work to ensure the finishedinstrument’s purity of tone.

The tone, resonance and beauty of fine gui-tars are all dependent upon the woods fromwhich they are made.

The timbers used in the construction ofRodriguez guitars are painstakingly chosen bygrain, weight and density from logs whichhave been cut for at least two years, then collected and carefully aged for between fiveand ten years, and finally impeccably matchedinto sets to guarantee the highest quality.

The instruments which Manuel and Normanbuild, and the contemporary rendition of thelate Manuel Rodriguez Senior’s personal guitar are all produced using stocks oftonewoods legally harvested in the middle ofthe last century, and which have been storedin ideal conditions, preparatory to releasingthem to produce some of the most beautifulguitars created anywhere in the world.

Manuel Rodriguez guitars are famous for

their comfort and playability. Selected lightand stiff Sapele or Honduras Cedar is usedfor the necks – ebony-reinforced on certainmodels – ensuring rigidity and long-term stability. Meanwhile, Indian rosewood orebony fingerboards, accurately fretted withGerman nickel silver frets, with their beautyenhanced by handsome, intricately engravedEuropean tuning machines, provide a consistently superb playing experience.

The use of naturally dried tonewoods, such asmahogany, cypress and Indian rosewood, allrenowned for their hardness, stiffness, resonance and beautiful coloration, are agedfor ten years or more before being selectedand often bookmatched for the bodies, toimpart the exquisite sound of the classicalguitar and create a durable object of beauty,featuring Brazilian rosewood on the premiummodels.

For the living, beating heart of the guitar, thetop, carefully selected solid spruce, solidcedar, or Manuel Rodriguez's unique 'CaféCrème' blend of the two, is used to ensure apowerful and balanced tonality.

Transforming the most important functionalpart of the guitar into an object of beautywith the use of exquisite, intricate handmademulticoloured soundhole rosettes, Rodriguezguitars look as enchanting as they sound.

Manuel Rodriguez bridges are made ofBrazilian and Indian rosewood to ensure thesound of the strings and the dynamics of theplayer’s style are fully transmitted to the body,the amplifier of the guitar.
