Concept of the productAI Traffic is a feature which has become an integral part of simulated flying. You are no longer alone, aircraft taxi on the ground and fly between the airports. The default AI Traffic, however, is severely lacking in realism. Limited to a handful of fictional airlines, by default, most international airports are deserted or show traffic that may have been realistic 40 years ago.

MyTraffic X Version 5.1 creates AI traffic onto 8100 airports. Only about 1000 of these are ever visted by airliners like the 737, another thousand see regular commuters, but most of them are General Aviation airfields, and hunreds are military only. Airliners are only a small part of any realistic traffic product for FSX. MyTraffic X takes this into account by adding many new General Aviation and military aircraft models, even naval aircrafts and helicopters.

Take a brief look into the San Diego area as example. To the International Airport, North Island Naval Sratio, the Harbor bay and a short flight out to visit the carrier Nimitz.

Sorry, is that area too loud or busy for you? What about a visit to Loch Lomond in Scottland or other Seaplane ports in Norway, Australia, Canada or the US? Or to a place most of us will consider as exotic, where a real surprise might be waiting for you.

Containing 140 aircraft in more than 3000 liveries, MyTraffic contains airlines and aircraft from all regions across the globe. The textures have been created to minimize the impact on frame rates, finding a balance between realism and performance. More than that, MyTraffic also contains military aircraft and general aviation aircraft - in the real world traffic airliners and commuters count for less than 20% of all air traffic.

FSX is known to be very consuming on computer resources. Therefore add-ons have to care for performance more than ever. MyTraffic is known to have the record of the best performing AI package for FS2004 already, but for FSX additional work was included. Many of the models are provided in two versions, a normal one and an accelerated one. By default, the accelerated model is always used.

The main consequence is that the models switch to simpler ones earlier. You can easily change this for each model by editing the model.cfg file and removing the x at the end of the model name. If you do so for your favorite aircraft, you will not suffer a hard hit, but if you do it for all aircraft you certainly will.

MyTraffic X Version 5.1 does not only provide you with contemporary AI traffic. It also allows you to use FSX as a time machine and travel back a couple of decades - with a few mouse clicks you will have the appropriate traffic around you. Just choose the year 1990 and you will have Concordes at Heathrow and CDG - and no 777s.

MyTraffic X Version 5.1 consists of four main parts:

The traffic bgl files:

These file contains all the data (flight plans) for the AI Traffic. With MyTraffic X installed, FSX simulates 475000 flights per day.

Add-on airports:

About 1900 airports were extended in their AI capabilities, many hundreds of them have no AI traffic with default FSX, among these many airbases. Unique to MyTraffic X is that even aircraft carriers are capable to handle AI traffic.

The aircraft and aircraft repaints:

This package includes 140 additional aircraft, each painted in several airline liveries. MyTraffic X shows more than 1400 real airlines. The following table shows the aircraft included in the MyTraffic X Version 5.1. With all the variations, including the unique registration number for each aircraft, there are approximately 38000 simulated AI aircraft in MyTraffic. In other words: one half of the worlds jetliner fleet, and a nice fraction of the military and general aviation fleets.

Using MyTraffic XFSX will automatically use MyTraffic aircraft and flight models for the AI traffic. It is not necessary to adjust anything else in the flight simulator.

Microsoft has published an SDK for FSX, that contains many valu-able tools. If you own the professional version of FSX, you will get it installed automatically once you install the SDK. Two further hints in this case: If you have updated FSX with Service Pack 1, you also must update the SDK, the toolbox dll from the early CDs does not work with FSX.1. By default, the toolbox gets installed as inactive. You have to edit %appdata%\Microsoft\FSX\dll.xml and change the line<Disabled>True</Disabled> to <Disabled>False</Disabled> in the Traffic Toolbox section. Traffic Toolbox is not available to users of the standard edition of FSX.

You will find the additional menu „Extras“ - „Traffic Tool-box“ in the menu bar of the flight simulator. This menu gives you access to some additional features of MyTraffic X.

In the menu „Settings“ you can set all para-meters of the AI traffic in the flight simulator. The options available in this menu are the same as in the menu „Options“ - „Settings“ - „Display“ - „Traffic“ of the flight simulator itself.

A click on the menu „Explorer“ opens a window with a list of the active AI flights. A double click on any entry of this list will take you to the position of this AI aircraft (use the key ‚S‘ to return to your cockpit view). A click with the right mouse button on the entry in the list will open a context menu which offers additional features.

Page 18: Manual MyTrafficX 51 eng online - Tom Woods, Dimitry Olenin, Krzysztof Malinowski, Dimitri Samborski und Bruno Armadi für die Bereitstellung ihrer Flugzeug-Modelle für MyTraffic

MyTraffic X

Aerosoft GmbH 200618

The menu „Map“ opens a map window. This map displays all AI flights in the vicinity of your own aircraft. You can use the hotkeys displayed in green letters for additional map functions. You can also find a list with all the AI flights displayed in the map. A double click on an entry will take you to the position of this AI-aircraft. On the left all important parameters of your own aircraft will displayed.

Select AI YearAs described at the beginning of this manual you can select a year for creating the AI traffic. MyTraffic X will only use typical aircrafts of the year you selected for displaying the AI traffic.

To select a year exit the Flight Simulator. Run the program „Select AI Year“ from the windows start menu. Click on „Start“ - „Programs“ - „aerosoft“ - „MyTraffic X“ - „Select AI Year“.

The following window will be displayed:

Choose the year you want and click on „Select“. The Trafficbasebuilder will start again to adjust the necessary files in the Flight Simulator.

Start the Flight Simulator again and watch the AI planes.

You can change this settinng everytime you want to.

FAQWhich airlines are available in MyTraffic?

Please refer to the Appendix for a complete list of the included aircrafts and airlines.

I have another repaint of the plane that I like more than the one in MyTraffic.

No problem, just identify the texture directory and exchange the texture - BUT: be aware that all textures of the planes on one airport have to fit in the free part of your graphics adapter memory, that is almost full at bigger airports anyway. As soon as they do not fit, they will go to the main memory, and be constantly transferred between video card and memory, steeling memory bandwidth the CPU needs. I made the test to replace the MyTraffic textures with the usual ones, and could easily change the frame rate I achieve on EDDF from 15 to 3 frames per second. So replace your favorite plane, but not all.

While products based on so called real schedules only have boring few aircraft paints at the airlines hubs and most of the worlds airports deserted, MyTraffic has been observed to have up to 70 different paints at large airports bringing the real life feeling into them, but obviously has to be more aware of texture size than these low end products.

Sometimes, on busy airports, several aircraft come in within seconds, only one of them can land

This unfortunately is an architectural limitation of FSX. The moment the planes call the tower first before departure is the last time they are under the control of anything else but the internal machinery of FSX. This means that the arrival time depends on the details going on at the departure air-port and on the way, so only an estimate with plus minus 15 minutes can be given. Only at a rate of less than 4 planes landing per hour, this effect is totally avoided. MyTraffic tries its best to get the approximate arrival times equally distributed, but see below. FSX has some logic built in to reduce these bulk attacks of landing planes, and MyTraffic uses a special logic not to define the arrival times but to let them float. If you encounter this to happen on a airport, and you see that there is a completely unused runway, please report this, because this can sometimes be fixed.

Where did you get all those aircraft models from?

The first models, mostly airliner models, were licensed from Project AI and FSPainter. Some models are donations of some friends you find in the credits below. But because there are so many models missing, many of the aircraft models got designed specially for MyTraffic by Burkhard Renk. To achieve better frame rates, over the time most of the originally licensed models were replaced by much faster models, using the same texture layouts as the first generation. In a next step, FS9-optimised aircrafts with complete new texture layout were built, partly for the newly added paints, partly replacing all old textures, like seen for the A321 and the Boeing 777. The newest models for version 5.1 are the complete Boeing 737 family, the Dash8 and the MD 80, all of them providing a leading edge realism with ultra high performance.

All these aircrafts for FS2004 had to be overworked in GMAX again to achieve the full FSX compatibility. Some of the aircrafts in MT2006V41 had to be omitted because they either are below average quality or could not be transported to the new rules.

The brand new Airbus A330-200 aircrafts are provided by 6th-Heavens (www.6th-heaven.com) a new company dedicated to build AI aircraft that can compete with fully professional aircrafts, yet deliver a very good frame rate. MyTraffic and 6th-Heavens have created a strategic partnership for the benefit of their costumers
