    AWARDS & HONORS: 2006 International League Manager-of-the-Year.2002 Baseball America Minor League Manager-of-the-Year.

    John Russell was named manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates on November 5, 2007,becoming the 38th manager in the organization’s 122-year history.

    In his first season at the helm, Russell guided the Bucs to a 67-95 record, going39-42 at home and 28-53 on the road. His club posted a National League-best 50-2 record when leading after seven innings; second only to the New York Yankeesrecord of 73-2. In addition, the 2008 Bucs went 22-21 in one-run games (13-7 atPNC Park) and 12-6 in extra-inning contests, sharing the Major League lead in extra-inning victories with the Milwaukee Brewers. He was ejected once during his firstseason - by Bob Davidson in Milwaukee on August 24 after Adam LaRoche was alsoejected by Davidson.

    Prior to joining the Pirates, Russell spent two seasons as the Triple-A manager inthe Philadelphia organization. He was named the International League Manager-of-the-Year after guiding Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to an 84-58 record and the NorthernDivision title in 2006. For his efforts in 2006, John served as manager at the 2007International League All-Star Game. He spent the 2007 campaign managing Ottawa,the Phillies entry in the International League.John began his career as a manager in the Minnesota organization, where his teams

    posted five winning seasons in his eight years. He was named 2002 Minor LeagueManager-of-the-Year and “Best Managerial Prospect” by Baseball America after hisEdmonton club captured the Pacific Coast League crown. Russell was also tabbed asthe Eastern League's "Top Managerial Prospect" by Baseball America after guidingthe New Britain club to an 81-58 record and a first-place finish in 1998. In 10seasons as a minor league manager, Russell compiled a 666-667 record and threedivision championships.

    This is Russell’s second tour of duty with the Pirates, as he served as the club’sThird Base Coach and major league catching instructor for three seasons (2003-05).

    In addition to his major and minor league managing career, John also led thePhoenix Desert Dogs to a 25-19 record and a 2nd-place finish in the Arizona FallLeague in 2002 and was managing Peoria in 2007 when he was officially namedmanager of the Pirates. Russell also managed in Venezuela during the 2006offseason and led the Maracaibo team to the playoffs for the first time in six years.

    Originally selected by the Phillies in the first round of the 1982 June draft, theformer catcher made his major league debut in 1984. He played in a total of 448big league games with Philadelphia (1984-88), Atlanta (1989) and Texas (1990-93). John caught Nolan Ryan’s sixth career no-hitter on June 11, 1990. Primarilya catcher, Russell also made appearances at first base, thirdbase and in left field and right field. He also made oneprofessional pitching appearance on 6/25/89, retiring thelone batter he faced (Gerald Young popped out).

    Tony Beasley was named Third Base Coach of the Pirates on November 20, 2007. In addition to those duties, he will serve the club as itsbase running instructor and the hitting-bunting coach for the pitchers.

    The 2009 season marks Tony’s 17th with the Pittsburgh organization. He spent the 2007 campaign as the club’s Minor League InfieldCoordinator and was instrumental in prospect Neil Walker’s transition from catcher to third base during spring training.

    This is Beasley’s second stint as a Major League Third Base Coach, as he worked in the samecapacity for the Washington Nationals under Manager Frank Robinson in 2006.

    Beasley spent five seasons as a manager in the Pirates farm system, guiding his club to thepost-season in all five years and a combined record of 372-258 (.590 winning pct.) during theregular season. He was tabbed by Baseball America as the Double-A Manager-of-the-Year in 2004after guiding Altoona to the Eastern League Championship Series (his team lost to NewHampshire). Tony also served the United States as a coach at the MLB Futures Game in Houstonduring All-Star week in 2004.

    Tony began his managerial career with Williamsport in 2001 and led the club to a 46-26 regular seasonrecord and a first-place finish; the club was declared co-champions of the New York-Penn League alongwith Brooklyn. He was named Low Class-A Manager-of-the-Year by Baseball America in consecutiveseasons with Hickory in 2002-03 and to the South Atlantic League’s mid-season All-Star squad in 2003.Tony guided the Crawdads to the SAL championship and the fifth-best record in the minors in 2002 andwas also selected to the league’s post-season All-Star Team.

    In addition to his regular season managerial duties, Beasley also managed the Mesa Desert Dogs duringthe Arizona Fall League in 2004 and guided the club to an 18-13 record and a first-place finish in theNational Division (his club lost to the Mesa Solar Sox in the Championship Series). After serving as aplayer/coach at Carolina (AA) and Lynchburg (A) in 1998, Tony began his full-time coaching career asthe Hitting Coach with the GCL Pirates in 1999. He worked in the same capacity with Lynchburg in 2000.

    Primarily a middle infielder, Tony spent nine seasons as a player in the minor leagues and batted .260 with 22 homers and 242 RBI in854 games. He was originally selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 19th round of the 1989 Junedraft before being aquired by Pittsburgh in a deal for infielder Tommy Shields on 9/5/91. In hisminor league career, Beasley was named to the Carolina League All-Star team in both 1990 and1991. He also garnered Southern League All-Star laurels in 1996.

    Luis Dorante is in his second season as the Pirates Bullpen Coach, having joined theMajor League staff on November 20, 2007. He served the Florida Marlins in the samecapacity during the 2005 campaign.Dorante spent the 2007 season as the Manager at Jupiter, the Marlins Class-A affiliate

    in the Florida State League. He also managed in the Dominican Republic during the2007 off-season.Prior to managing Double-A Carolina in 2006, Dorante spent three seasons at the helm

    with Jupiter. In that time, he produced a 221-190 record, which included an 81-57 markin 2002, the most victories by Jupiter in a single season. Luis led the Hammerheads tothe playoffs twice in those three seasons. In 2003, he led the club to a combined 76-62 record, which included a 42-28 mark anda first place finish in the first half. Luis shared post-season Manager-of-the-Year laurels in both 2002 and 2003.Dorante began his managerial career in the Montreal Expos system in the Gulf Coast League in 1995. He was a coach with the

    GCL Expos in 1996, a club which posted a league-best 41-18 record and a first-place finish, only to lose in the first round of theplayoffs. After three seasons with the GCL Expos (also managed in 1997), he led Cape Fear to an overall record of 80-61 and apost-season appearance in 1998. Luis also managed Jupiter in 1999 and 2000 while the club was affiliated with Montreal.

    In 11 seasons as a minor league skipper, Dorante led his team to the playoffsfour times and compiled a record of 671-696.

    Primarily a catcher during his playing days, Luis also made appearances atfirst base, third base and in the outfield during his six-year minor league career.He played a total of 221 games from 1987 thru 1993 in the Boston organizationafter being signed as a non-drafed free agent on 9/15/86. Dorante missed the1992 season, but finished his playing career as a player/coach with Ft.Lauderdale in 1993. Following his playing career, Dorante joined the Expos organization and

    worked as a Venezuelan scout in 1994.

    Perry Hill was named the Pirates First Base Coach on November 7, 2008. In addition to those duties, he will serve the clubas its infield instructor.

    The 2009 season marks Hill’s 15th as a coach in the Major Leagues and his 25th season as a coach in professional ball.He most recently worked with the Florida Marlins as their First Base and Infield Coach from 2002-2006. A valued and well-respected infield instructor, Hill has coached Rawlings Gold Glove award winners at allfour infield positions during his career: 1B Derrek Lee (2003), 2B Luis Castillo (2003-05), 3B Mike Lowell (2005) and SS Orlando Cabrera (2001).

    In his five seasons with the Marlins, he instructed an infield that included All-StarsMiguel Cabrera and Dan Uggla, as well as 2006 N.L. Rookie-of-the-Year Hanley Ramirez.Also under his watch, Florida established a club record with a .987 fielding percentagein 2003 and third baseman Mike Lowell set a Major League record with just sevenerrors in 154 games in 2004. Hill began his coaching career in the Texas Rangers organization with Class-A Tri Cities

    in 1984. He spent a total of 13 seasons with Texas (1984-1996), including four at the Major League level as the First BaseCoach and Infield Instructor (1992-95). From 1987 to 1992, he worked as a roving infield instructor for the Rangers beforejoining manager Toby Harrah’s staff at the big league level as a First Base Coach on July 16, 1992. Hill continued in his roleas First Base Coach and Infield Instructor for two full seasons and half of the ‘95 campaign. His final season in the Texasorganization was spent as the roving infield instructor in 1996.

    From 1997-99, Hill served the Detroit Tigers as their Third Base and Infield Coach. Under his guidance, he led the 1997squad to the American League’s top fielding mark as the Tigers became the first team ever to go from worst to first in fieldingpercentage in consecutive seasons.

    Prior to joining the Marlins in 2002, Hill spent the 2000 and 2001 campaigns as the First Base and Infield Coach for theMontreal Expos, where he guided the development of shortstop Orlando Cabrera, who collected his first Rawlings Gold Glovein 2001. He also helped to lower the Expos infield errors total in consecutive seasons as the infielders committed only 65errors in 2001 after making 72 in 2000 and 88 in 1999. Primarily a shortstop during his playing days, Hill played six professional seasons (1976-1981), including each of his final

    five years in the Mexican Sonora League. He began his career playing with Rio Grande in the Gulf States League, where hebatted .194 in 53 games during the 1976 season. Hill played in a total of 622 games in Mexico and hit .257 with eighthome runs and 228 RBI before retiring as a player after the 1981 season.PERSONAL: Perry Wendell Hill...Is a 1970 graduate of L.D.     Joe Kerrigan is in his first season as the Pirates Pitching Coach, having been namedto the position on October 20, 2008.Kerrigan returns to the position as Pitching Coach for the first time since 2004, when

    he spent his second season in that capacity with the Philadelphia Phillies. In total,Joe has spent 18 seasons as a coach in the Major Leagues, 12 as a Pitching Coach.

    Kerrigan spent the 2008 season as a baseball analyst for Comcast SportsNet andWBCB Radio covering the World Champion Phillies in his home town of Philadelphia. After serving as a special advisor to New York’s Senior Vice President and General

    Manager Brian Cashman in 2005, Kerrigan served the Yankees as the Bullpen Coachfor two seasons (2006-07). Prior to joining the Yankees, he spent two seasons (2003-04) as the Pitching Coach with Philadelphia.

    Kerrigan also spent parts of five seasons as Pitching Coach with Boston (1997-2001), until he succeeded Jimy Williams asthe 42nd manager in Red Sox history on August 16, 2001. During his tenure in Boston, his pitching staffs compiled an 823-687 record while Pedro Martinez captured two Cy Young Awards (1999 and 2000). Boston also led the American League inERA, shutouts and strikeouts, while allowing the fewest hits, walks and runs in 1999. In hisstint as manager of the Red Sox, Joe posted a 17-26 record.

    Kerrigan began his coaching career as the Bullpen Coach for manager Bill Virdon with theMontreal Expos in 1983, a position he held for four seasons before working as a Pitching Coachin Montreal’s minor league system for five years. During those five years, Kerrigan served asa coach with Double-A Jacksonville (1987), Triple-A Indianapolis (1988-1990) and Double-AHarrisburg (1991). From 1992 thru 1996, Kerrigan served as Pitching Coach with the Expos, where his staff posted

    the second-best ERA (3.25) in 1992, led the National League with a 3.56 ERA in 1994 andfinished in the top five in ERA four times.

    A right-handed pitcher during his playing days, Kerrigan spent parts of four seasons in themajors with Montreal (1976-77) and Baltimore (1978 and 1980). Originally selected by theExpos in the first round (10th pick overall) of the January 1974 draft, Kerrigan made his bigleague debut with Montreal on 7/9/76. He recorded the first two wins of his Major Leaguecareer on 9/8/76 at St. Louis, winning both ends of a doubleheader. Kerrigan also led the1977 Montreal staff with 11 saves and ranked second on the team in appearances (66) behindWill McEnaney (69).

    Joe played his final game in the Major Leagues with the Baltimore Orioles on 4/12/80. He spent the 1981 season withTriple-A Indianapolis (Reds) and split the 1982 season between Triple-A Oklahoma City (Phillies) and Triple-A Denver (Rangers).

    Don Long was named Hitting Coach of the Pirates on November 27, 2007. Duringhis first season of instructing the Pittsburgh hitters, the team scored a total of 735runs, the most by the Pirates since 2003 (753). The ‘08 squad also ranked seventhin the National League in hits (1454) and fifth in doubles (314) while hitting 153home runs, the highest total for the team since 2003 (163). Under his tutelage, thePirates produced the second-highest batting average with runners in scoring positionin the league (.276) behind the Chicago Cubs (.278) and outfielder Nate McLouthshared the N.L. lead in doubles (46).

    Prior to joining the Pittsburgh organization, Long worked eight years as the minor league hitting coordinator with thePhiladelphia Phillies. He spent the 1999 season as the Phillies roving hitting instructor.

    Long spent 11 years as a manager in the Angels minor league sytem before joining Philadelphia. After working as a coachwith Quad City in 1987, he made his managerial debut with the Bend Bucks in 1988. Don returned to Quad City and wasnamed Midwest League Manager-of-the-Year after leading his squad to the 1990 league title. A year later he captured Manager-of-the-Year accolades again after guiding his Midland club to a 37-30 second-half record and into the Texas League playoffs.

    After two more seasons with Midland (1992-93), Long managed in the Pacific Coast League for three years, leadingVancouver to a pair of first-place finishes. He advanced to the league championship in 1994 and was named Manager-of-the-Year in 1995 after guiding the club to an 81-60 regular-season record and an appearance in the post season. In his 11

    seasons as a minor league skipper, Long produced a 698-697 record.

    A former switch-hitting infielder, Long was originally selected by SanFrancisco in the third round of the 1983 June draft. He played threeyears in the Giants farm system (1983-85) where he compiled a .251batting average, 12 home runs and 76 RBI in 198 games. Beforebecoming a manager in the minor leagues, Long served as the HeadBaseball Coach at Seattle University in 1986.

    PIRATES WHO HAVE HIT FOR THE CYCLEHitting for the cycle (a single, double, triple and home run in the same game) is a feat that has been accomplished 23 times by20 different Pittsburgh players. Fred Clarke, Arky Vaughan and Wally Westlake achieved the feat two times each. It has beenaccomplished just six times by a Bucco since the 1951 season and just once (Jason Kendall at Three Rivers Stadium on May 19,2000) in the city of Pittsburgh in the last 57 years.

    AWARDS & HONORS: Coach at 2000 Major League Baseball Futures Game.2000 Eastern League Manager-of-the-Year.

    Gary Varsho returned to the Pittsburgh organization when he was named BenchCoach on November 20, 2007. In his current role, Varsho assists Manager JohnRussell in all aspects of game preparation during the regular season. He also preparesthe daily schedule for the team during spring training, working closely with othercoaches, the grounds crew and various front office personnel.

    Varsho, who played for the Pirates in 1991-92 and again in 1994, spent the 2007season as Cleveland’s minor league Outfield/Baserunning Coordinator. He spent theprevious five years (2002-06) as the Phillies Bench Coach, which was his first MajorLeague coaching assignment. Gary served as Philadelphia’s interim manager for thefinal two games of the 2004 season following Larry Bowa’s dismissal (he posted a 1-1 recordin the two games).

    Prior to joining the big league staff in Philadelphia, Varsho spent five seasons as a minorleague manager, compiling an overall record on 383-319 (.546 winning pct.). In his threeseasons with Double-A Reading, he tallied 235 victories, good for fourth on the club’s all-timewin list. Gary led Reading to the Southern Division Championship in 2001 and a share of theEastern League title.

    Varsho made his managerial debut with Wisconsin in 1997 and led his club to a first-placefinish in the Central Division during the first half of the season. He spent one more seasonwith Wisconsin before joining Reading, where he was named the Eastern League’s Manager-of-the-Year in 2000. Gary was also a coach for the USA Team during the 2000 All-StarFutures Game in Atlanta. At the conclusion of both the 2000 and 2001 campaigns, BaseballAmerica recognized Varsho as the “Best Managing Prospect” in the E.L.

    Primarily an outfielder during his playing career, Varsho played 14 years of professional baseball, including eight seasonsin the majors leagues with the Cubs (1998-90), Pirates, Reds (1993) and Phillies (1995). He was originally selected by Chicagoin the fifth round of the 1982 June draft as a second baseman and made his big league debut with the Cubs on 7/6/88.During his career with the Pirates, Gary appeared in the National League Championship Series in 1991 and 1992 and went2-for-4 in four combined games. His first major league hit came off Ed Whitson on 7/9/88 at San Diego and he connectedoff Shawn Boskie for his first big league home run on 7/2/92 at Wrigley Field.

    Rich Donnelly joined Pittsburgh’s Player Development staff on January 15, 2008. In his current role, he will serve asan experienced resource for the staff while evaluating the entire system. He will be with the club during spring trainingand will spend the 2009 season as a roving instructor among all affiliates, including the big league club.

    Donnelly’s return to the Pirates in 2008 was his first appearance with the club since serving as a Major League coach for 11 seasons; as theBullpen Coach from 1986-1991 and as the Third Base Coach from 1992-96. A former left-handed hitting catcher, Donnelly signed with theMinnesota Twins in 1967. After four minor league seasons as a player, he embarked on a 10-year managerial career in 1972, winning the WesternCarolinas League championship with Gastonia in 1974. Rich’s last managerial stop was with Denver in 1982.

    Prior to joining Jim Leyland’s staff in 1986, Donnelly was a major league coach with Texas in 1980 and again from 1983-85. He also workedas a Third Base Coach for Florida (1997-98), Colorado (1999-2002), Milwaukee (2003-05) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (2006-07). Rich has spenta total of 26 seasons as a coach in the Major Leagues and a total of 42 years in the game of baseball.

    Rich was born on 8/3/46 in Steubenville, OH. He is a 1964 graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central High School and holds a bachelor’s degreein education from Xavier University. Donnelly resides in Steubenville with his wife Bert. The couple has eight children; Bubba (36), Amy (34),John (33), Tiffany (30), Mike (29), Leigh Anne (29), Tim (28) and Adam (25). Rich was inducted into the Ohio Valley Hall of Fame in 2006. Heis an experienced racquetball player, having trained with World Champion racquetball players Sudsy Monchik, Ron Galbreath and Woody Clouse.Rich was featured as the cover story in the November/December 2003 issue of Racquetball Magazine and has won the prestigious Ted DragasichRacquetball Tournament in Weirton, WV, 12 consecutive years.

    Heberto Andrade is in his sixth season as the Pirates Bullpen Catcher. His daily responsibilities includecatching pitchers’ bullpen sessions prior to games and warming up pitchers during the games. He also ob-serves what pitchers are doing mechanically and has regular communication with the Bullpen Coach and

    Pitching Coach. Herbie also throws to the hitters during batting practice on a daily basis.Andrade spent three years (1986-88) as a catcher in the Chicago Cubs farm system and also played professional baseball in

    Venezuela, Italy and Colombia before retiring as a player in 1996.In addition to his duties with the Pirates, Heberto has spent five of the last six years as a coach and catching instructor during

    the Venezuelan Winter League. He was John Russell’s Bench Coach in 2006-07.He was one of the two catchers for the 2006 All-Star Game Home Run Derby, which was held at PNC Park on July 10.Heberto and his wife Maria reside in Venezuela and have three daughters; Maria Jesus (12), Maria Jose (11) and Maria Angel (10).

    Kevin Roach is in his fifth season as the team’s official video coordinator. In his role, Kevin is responsiblefor videotaping each Pittsburgh batter and pitcher during every game, as well as taping a majority of everyopponent’s games. The videos are then used by Manager John Russell, along with the coaching staff and

    players, to analyze strengths and weaknesses in the players performance.Prior to joining the Pirates, Roach spent five years as the assistant video coordinator for the Pittsburgh Panthers. In addition to

    assisting with the video efforts for the entire athletic department, he was the chief video contact for the men’s basketball program.Kevin also served as administrative assistant for the Cleveland State University men’s basketball team for four years (1996-2000).

    While there, he coordinated the Cleveland State Benefit Golf Outing and was co-director of the Rollie Massimino Basketball Camp.Roach additionally worked with the Cleveland Browns media relations department and the Cleveland Indians video department.He also served as an administrative assistant for the Wichita State men’s basketball team from 1995-1996 and the UNLV men’sbasketball team from 1992-1994.

    A native of Syracuse, NY, Roach earned both his Master’s in sport management and Bachelor’s degree in communication fromCleveland State University. He also owns an Associate’s degree in radio and television from Onondaga Community College. Inaddition, Kevin coached the Cleveland Basketball Club’s AAU 15 & Under squad which advanced to the 1999 AAU National Tournamentin Indianapolis.

    Kevin and his wife Heather reside in Pittsburgh and have one daughter; Ella (8/17/07).

    Dr. Patrick DeMeo serves as the Medical Director for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He began his tenure as SportsMedicine consultant and coordinator of services provided by Allegheny General Hospital for the club duringthe summer of 2000.

    DeMeo is currently the Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Allegheny General Hospital. In addition, he servesas Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery for the Drexel University School of Medicine.He received his medical degree from Wayne State University in 1986 and served his internship and residencies at the Downstate

    Medical Center at the State University of New York. Dr. DeMeo, who is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery,completed his orthopaedic residency at The Ohio State University and his Fellowship training in sports medicine at the ClevelandClinic. He was also honored by Vectors as Pittsburgh’s Physician-of-the-Year in 2002 and is the past President of Dapper Dan Charitiesin Pittsburgh.

    Dr. DeMeo and his wife, Anita, have two children; son PJ (14) and daughter Kaitlyn (12).

    Dr. Edward Snell is in his 10th season as the Pirates Team Physician, having joined the staff in 2000.In addition to his work with the Bucs, Ed serves as the President elect for the Major League Baseball TeamPhysician Association. He has also served as a medical consultant for a number of professional and amateur

    sports venues, including the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Pittsburgh Marathon, The Great Race, the NCAA tournament and the WorldBoxing Council.

    Snell is currently a senior attending staff physician with Allegheny Orthopaedic Associates. He is also a director of the SportsMedicine Fellowship Program at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh and serves as an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics atDrexel University in Philadelphia.A native of Harrisburg, PA, Dr. Snell received undergraduate degrees in mathematics and chemistry from Franklin and Marshall

    College in Lancaster, PA, and his medical degree from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in 1991. He completedhis residency at St. Margarets Hospital in Pittsburgh and his fellowship training in sports medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Foundationin Ohio, where he also served as a physician for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Cleveland Browns. Ed is a member of theAmerican College of Sports Medicine and the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine. Snell also serves on the PIAA SportsAdvisory Committee and is the co-medical director of the athletic training program at Duquesne University.

    Dr. Snell and his wife Christine have two daughters; Emily (12) and Elizabeth (8).

    Brad Henderson was named Head Athletic Trainer of the Pirates on December 2, 2002, after spending 15years as the Assistant Athletic Trainer with the St. Louis Cardinals. He joined the Cardinals Major Leaguetraining staff in May of 1988 and had been a trainer in the St. Louis organization since 1985.

    This past November, Henderson and his staff received the Dick Martin Award, an honor bestowed upon the Best Medical Staff inbasbeall by Baseball Prospectus. The award is named after the long-time Twins trainer who helped set the standard of excellencethat today's Athletic Trainers and doctors aspire to reach. Henderson's staff not only had an excellent 2008 campaign, but its three-year results and trends are the best in the game.

    Henderson's first professional assignment was serving as athletic trainer with the Johnson City club in the Appalachian League.He was also head athletic trainer with Arkansas (Texas League) before joining St. Louis in 1988.Brad has been a National Athletic Trainers Association member since 1986 and is licensed by the states of Pennsylvania, Missouri

    and Florida. He was the National League Assistant Trainer Representative to the PBAT Executive Committee for two years and servedas athletic trainer for the 2006 and 2000 National League All-Star teams. In addition, Brad has worked with the athletic trainingstaffs of the St. Louis football Cardinals and the University of Missouri's football and baseball teams.

    A 1985 graduate of the University of Missouri, Brad and his wife Julie have a son; Blake (17) and a daughter; Brooke (15).

    Mike Sandoval joined the Pittsburgh Pirates major league athletic training staff when he was namedassistant athletic trainer and Major League rehab coordinator on November 8, 2000. Mike was also theathletic trainer for the Mexican team during the 2006 World Baseball Classic.

    The 2009 season will mark Sandoval’s 23rd as an athletic trainer in the Pittsburgh organization. He began his professional careerin 1987 while still in school at New Mexico State University, when he served as athletic trainer for the Watertown Pirates in theNew York-Penn League. Mike also served the Bucs as an athletic trainer at Princeton, WV (1988), Salem (1989), Harrisburg(1990), Carolina (1991, 1997-1998), Buffalo (1992-94), Calgary (1995), Augusta (1996) and Altoona (1999-2000).

    During the inaugural season of the Arizona Fall League in 1992, Sandoval served as athletic trainer for Phoenix. He did thesame for Peoria during the 2000 off-season and with Kauai in the Hawaiian Winter League in both 1993 and 1994. Sandovalalso spent winters as an athletic trainer in Venezuela (1990) and the Dominican Republic (1991).

    Mike and his wife, Dodie, have one son; Michael, Jr. (22). He is a 1988 graduate of New Mexico State University, where heearned a degree in physical education and sports medicine. A member of the 2002 Major League Athletic Trainers Staff-of-the-Year, Sandoval has been a NATA member since 1985 and was NATA certified in 1988. Mike was licensed by the state of Pennsylvaniain 2001.

    Frank Velasquez joined the Pittsburgh Pirates Major League training staff when he was named to hiscurrent position on December 14, 2002.Prior to joining the Pittsburgh organization, Velasquez spent three years as the minor league conditioning

    & medical coordinator for the Texas Rangers. He also served the Texas organization as trainer at Charlotte (1997-1999) and Class-A Charleston, SC (1996).

    In the fall of 2007 Frank began a group training and consulting business called 3 Rivers Athletic Development, LLC.A 1993 graduate of the University of Michigan, Frank served as a student athletic trainer from 1989 to 1993 while earning a

    Bachelor’s degree in movement science. He also worked in a physical therapy clinic in Bay City, MI. Frank is a certified trainerby the NATA and a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the NSCA.

    Velasquez and his wife, Carrie, reside in Pittsburgh and have one son; Kaden (4).

    Erwin Valencia is in his fifth season with the Pittsburgh organization, his fourth as a member of the MajorLeague training staff. He spent the 2005 season as the Athletic Trainer for the Gulf Coast League Pirateswhile assisting the minor league athletic training Coordinator with rehabilitation programs in Bradenton.

    Prior to joining the Pirates, Erwin worked at the US Athletic Training Center in New York City from 2003-2005 as a Staff PhysicalTherapist, at Yale University as an Assistant Athletic Trainer in 2002-2003, at the Tilton School in New Hampshire as an AssistantAthletic Trainer in 2001-2002, and as a Student Athletic Trainer for Plymouth State University in 2000-2001.

    Valencia earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of the Philippines, Manila, in 1999 andhas since been a Registered Physical Therapist in the Philippines and in the United States. He received a Masters of Education inAthletic Training and Sports Medicine from Plymouth State University in New Hampshire in 2002 and has since been a CertifiedAthletic Trainer and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Erwin continued his academic career with a Post-GraduateFellowship at Yale University the following year.Erwin is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists, the American Physical Therapy Association,

    Kiyoshi Momose is in his ninth season as a member of the Pirates organization. He joined the MajorLeague staff in January of 2002 after working as the club’s minor league assistant Conditioning Coach in2001. Kiyoshi has also served as the Pirates Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coordinator (2005-2006)

    after working the previous three years (2002-2004) as the team’s Video Coordinator.

    Momose assists Frank Velasquez with the day-to-day conditioning of the Major League players, which includes nutrition, weighttraining programs and daily evaluations of the athletes. He will work in Pittsburgh while the team is at home and will also travelto the Dominican Republic and Venezuela to oversee the players’ conditioning in those respective camps.

    Momose was born in Nagano, Japan and is a 1991 graduate of Misuzugaoka High School in Nagano. He earned a Bachelor’sdegree in physical education from Nippon College of Physical Education and his Master’s degree in exercise physiology from theUniversity of Central Florida. In addition, he is fluent in three languages (English, Japanese and Spanish).

    Latin American Strength and Conditioning Coordinator

    Scott “Bones” Bonnett joined the Pittsburgh organization on February 1, 2000. He spent the last nineyears as the Assistant Equipment Manager before being named to his current position in November of2008.

    Bonnett is responsible for ordering all equipment for the Major League club in addition to maintaining a comfortable atmospherein the Pirates clubhouse at PNC Park. He also oversees the transfer and distribution of personal luggage and all baseball equipmentduring team travel. Scott also travels to Bradenton, FL, to assist the club during mini-camp and the annual Fantasy Camp in January.

    Prior to joining the Pirates, Scott worked as an attendant in the visiting baseball clubhouse at Cinergy Field, the previous homeof the Cincinnati Reds, for nine years (1991-1999). He also served the Cincinnati organization as a batboy for three seasons (1988-1990). Scott has also assisted Wilson the past seven years during the Pirates spring training stay in Bradenton, Florida.

    The 38-year-old Bonnett is a native of Cincinnati, OH, and is a graduate of Lakota High School. He also attended the Universityof Cincinnati. Scott resides in Pittsburgh and has one son; Sawyer James (3).

    Kevin Conrad was named the visiting clubhouse manager in January of 1998. In that role, he is responsiblefor maintaining a comfortable atmosphere in the visiting baseball clubhouse at PNC Park in addition toassisting Equipment Manager Scott Bonnett in day-to-day clubhouse operations. In 2006, Kevin served as

    the American League clubhouse manager for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game at PNC Park.

    Prior to joining the Pittsburgh organization, Conrad served as an assistant in the Philadelphia Phillies visiting clubhouse for sixseasons. He also serves as the visiting clubhouse manager at McKechnie Field during spring training and has assisted Wilson duringthe Pirates stay in Bradenton, Florida, since 1995.

    The 42-year-old native of Rahway, NJ, is a 1985 graduate of Roselle (NJ) Catholic High School.
