A Study on passenger awareness towards services of APSRTC inVijayawada

Introduction:

Transport in the Republic of India  is an important part of the nation's economy. Since

the economic liberalisation of the 1990s, development of infrastructure within the country has

progressed at a rapid pace, and today there is a wide variety of modes of transport by land, water

and air. However, the relatively low GDP of India has meant that access to these modes of

transport has not been uniform. Motor vehicle penetration is low with only 13 million cars on the

nation's roads. In addition, only around 10% of Indian households own a motorcycle. At the same

time, the Automobile industry in India is rapidly growing with an annual production of over 2.6

million vehicles[3] and vehicle volume is expected to rise greatly in the future. In the interim

however, public transport still remains the primary mode of transport for most of the population,

and India's public transport systems are among the most heavily utilised in the world. India's rail

network is the longest and fourth most heavily used system in the world transporting over 6  billion  passengers and over 350 million tons of freight annually.

Despite ongoing improvements in the sector, several aspects of the transport sector are

still riddled with problems due to outdated infrastructure, lack of investment, corruption and a

burgeoning population. The demand for transport infrastructure and services has been rising by

around 10% a year with the current infrastructure being unable to meet these growing demands.

According to recent estimates by Goldman Sachs, India will need to spend $1.7 Trillion USD on

infrastructure projects over the next decade to boost economic growth of which $500 Billion

USD is budgeted to be spent during the eleventh Five-year plan.

Consumer awareness:

The need for empowerment of consumers as a class cannot be over emphasized and is

already well recognized all over the world. The advancement of technology and advent of

sophisticated gadgets in the market and aggressive marketing strategies in the era of

globalization have not only thrown open a wide choice, for the consumer but all the same also

rendered the consumer vulnerable to a plethora of problems concomitant to such rapid changes.

There is an urgent and increasing necessity to educate and motivate the consumer to be wary of

the quality of the products, and also the possible deficiencies in the services of the growing

sector of public utilities. In short, the consumer should be empowered with respect to his rights

as a consumer. He should be equipped to be vigilant with a discerning eye so as to be able to

protect himself from any wrongful act on the part of the trader.

In order to be able to position the consumer in such a state, there is every need not only to

evolve legal remedies but also provide reliable and exhaustive information, which he can access

without much effort and expense. Recognizing the importance of the problem, the Governmentof India and State Government have initiated steps to introduce dispute redressal mechanism by

way of Consumer Protection Ac, but a lot more has to be done in the area of creating awareness

on the part of the consumer to facilitate his seeking suitable remedy wherever there is a need.

This becomes more important in the rural areas, where there is wide spread illiteracy.

The following plans are given by the APSRTC.

Objectives:

To know the passengers’ awareness towards services of APSRTC.

To study the passenger preferences towards APSRTC services.

Significance of the study:

Actually APSRTC introducing no of plans. But most of the passengers are not aware to

it. Every policy should be reach the entire market which are introduced by the RTC. So that

reason I opt this topic to know To know the passengers’ awareness towards services of APSRTC.

To study the passenger preferences towards APSRTC services.

Methodology

1. Sampling procedure: The researcher must decide the type of sample he use i.e., he

must decide about the technique to be used in the selecting the items for the sample. In fact, this

technique or procedure stands for the sample design itself. There are several sample designs out

of which the researcher must choose one for his study. Obviously, he must select that design

which, for a given sample size and for a given cost, has a smaller sampling error.

Size of sample: This refers to the no of items to be selected from the universe to

constitute a sample. For this research 200 passengers have to be considered through the

questionnaires.

TAYL - ORD CITY SUBURBAN

ADULT 40.00 35.00 40.00

CHILD 20.00 18.00 20.00

TAYL - METRO For Metro/Jnnurm Buses in VSP and VJAthe TAYL tariff fixed for Hyd metroservices is applicable and there is no

separate Metro TAYL tariffs for city/subservices of VSP, VJA & WL

ADULT 50.00

CHILD 25.00

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/management-thesis-swamy-09101959 10/12

Specific target population: Here, the main target population is passengers.to asses onlythe passenger awareness.

Sample design: Finite universe i.e., convenience sampling in Vijayawada city.

2. Data collection methods:

Collection of Primary data: We collect the data during the course of doing experiments

in an experimental research of the descriptive type and perfume surveys, whether sample

surveys or census surveys. Here the data is collecting only by the sample survey. sample

survey is conducted by the questionnaires.

Secondary data: Additional required information is gathering from the websites ,

magazines and also met some higher authorities of APSRTC.

Data analysis:

Statistical testing: The role of statistic in the research is to function as a tool in

designing research, analyzing its data and drawing conclusion therefrom. Most research studies

result in a large volume of raw data and it must be suitably reduce so that the same can be read

easily and can used for further analysis. Only after this we can adopt the process of

generalization from small groups to population. if fact there are 2 major areas of statistics viz.,

descriptive statistics and inference statistics.

Procedure used to interpret: The important statistical measures that are used to

summarise the research data are: 1. measures of central tendency 2. Measures of dispersion. 3.

Measures of skewness. 4. Measures of relationship.

Hypothesis formulation

Therefore, the hypothesis to be tested in the research can be stated as follows:

Ho: The passengers are not aware about the services of APSRTC.

H1: The passengers are aware about the services of APSRTC.
