The talented cast of six portray a variety of soldiers, nurses, “Hello Girls” and civilians from France, Germany, and the United States. Live music from the period is performed throughout, and the audience is encour- aged to join in on several songs. Currently, Rana is in the original Broad- way cast of The Band’s Visit, and has performed several times as the Band’s Leader, the role originally created by Tony Shalhoub. Returning from 2017 are Osborn Focht, Ryan Genualdi, Matt Baxter Luceno, Mike Newman and Tara Reuter. Join- ing the cast is Hillary Wilson, who was in ELTC’s Within the Law. A Year in the Trenches was commissioned by the New Jersey Historical Commission and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. During her lifetime, Beach was celebrated for her brilliant pianism as well as her compositions and was the first female composer to have her symphony performed by a major orchestra. Those attending the performance are invited to stay afterwards for a reception with Dr. Gardner. WWFM is recording this performance for a future broadcast on one of David Osenberg’s radio shows. ON THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET: A World Premiere Musical Revue featuring the lyrics of the incomparable Dorothy Fields June 13 – July 21 at 8:30 PM (No show on Wed. July 4, and a show on Sun. July 8) Shortly after Charles Gilbert performed brilliantly as musical director and accompanist for Rodgers’ Ro-mance (ELTC in 2016), he sug-gested to artistic director Gayle Stahlhuth, that the compa-ny produce an evening of Dorothy Fields. Familiar with Fields, Stahlhuth thought it a terrific idea – that had to wait until 2018 – and here it is!

During her almost 50-year career, Dorothy Fields wrote lyrics for more than 400 songs; worked on 15 Broadway mu-sicals, sometimes as book writer and/or lyricist, and almost 30 Holly-wood films. Her film music with Je-rome Kern included them winning the Academy Award for Best Song in 1936 for “The Way You Look To-night” from Swingtime. Cy Coleman, twenty years her junior, asked Fields to write the lyrics for his music for the Broadway shows Sweet Charity (1965) and Seesaw (1973). Other collaborators with whom she worked include Sigmond Romberg, Morton Gould, Arthur Schwartz, Harold Arlen, Albert Hague, Fritz Kreisler, Max Steiner and Oscar Levant.

Charles Gilbert is arranging the songs, accompanying the perform-ers, and selecting the songs, with help from Stahlhuth, who is direct-ing. Also, on board is choreographer Karen Cleighton. The cast are all new to ELTC: Joilet F. Harris, Scott Harrison, Annemarie Rosano and Melissa Zimmerman.

Wed. June 13: After-show Opening Night Party at The Washington Inn, 801 Washington Street.

Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and cash bar– at no additional ticket cost!

Fri. June 22: After-show Q&A with cast and director

HANS BRINKER or THE SILVER SKATES Monday, July 2 at 8:00 PM Robert LeMaire is di-recting this play based on the novel by Mary Mapes

Dodge, adapted by Gayle Stahl-huth. This is the 12th year of our much-anticipated Student Work-shop Production, admission-free! (Those wishing to be in the show, ages 10-16, may contact ELTC for an application.)

ARSENIC AND OLD LACE July 25 – September 1 at 8 PM Murder! Mayhem! Madcap fun! Meet the Brewsters! Two charming sisters live in the family home in Brooklyn, offering rooms-to-rent, while populating their cellar with the remains of “acceptable” lodg-

ers. The nephew who lives with them thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt, another nephew is running from the law, and the third nephew is a the-ater critic who is recently engaged to a lovely young woman. Written by Joseph Kesselring, this 1941 Broad-way comedy hit is family entertainment

at its looniest! The original production, produced by the famous playwrighting team of Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, ran on Broadway for 1,444 performances, and in London, 1,337 performances, making it the longest running American play in England at that time. The 1944 film, directed by Frank Capra is a comedy classic.

Gayle Stahlhuth is directing ELTC’s production, and Robert LeMaire is the assistant director. Both are also in the show. Others in the cast who have pre-viously worked for ELTC are Suzanne Dawson, Morgan J. Nichols, Thomas Raniszewski and Scott Harrison, who

is also in On the Sunny Side of the Street. Those new to ELTC are Paul Battiato, Jennifer Flynn, Bob Reader, Jeff Sharkey and Kegan Witzki.

Under the Apple Tree,” “The White Cliffs of Do-ver,” “This is the Army, Mr. Jones”- and many more! Throughout the show, she engages with the audience, and puts the songs in their historical context. Printed song

lyrics are provided for “sing-alongs!” She may even find the much-needed third female to com-plete her Andrews Sisters Trio in the audience! SILENT SKY September 19 – Oct. 13 at 8 PM(No show on Wed. Oct. 3; show on Sun. Oct. 7 at 7:30; Wed. Oct. 10: 2:00 matinee with no evening show)This entertaining and enlightening play tells the story of Henrietta Leavitt (1868-1921), the astronomer who provided the key to determining the size of the cos-mos. In 1912, she discovered that one could relate a star’s brightness cycle to its absolute magnitude. This was a valuable stepping stone for others to be

able to measure the distance of stars and galaxies. Leavitt, and other women with whom she worked, called “comput-ers,” mapped the sky work-ing from photographic plates since only men were permitted to look through the telescope. She lived during an era of im-mense scientific discoveries, when women’s ideas were dismissed until men claimed credit for them. Social prog-ress, like scientific progress, can be hard to see when one is trapped among earthly com-plications, like family. Leavitt and her female peers believed

in both, and their dedication changed the way we understand both the heavens and Earth.

Silent Sky is written by Lauren Gunderson, the most produced living playwright in America. The script was commissioned by and premiered at South Coast Rep-ertory in 2011. Directing the production is Tom Byrn, who many will remember starred in ELTC’s Mr. Lin-

coln. The cast includes Veronique Hur-ley, who was in ELTC’s Biography. The others are new to the company: Kathryn Barnhardt, Pat Dwyer, Nikki Ferry and MB Scallen.

Wed. Sept. 19: Opening Night Party at The Merion Inn, across the street from

    the church where ELTC performs.

    Fri. Sept. 28: After-show Q&A

POE BY CANDLELIGHT Saturday, October 20 at 8:00 PM Just in time for Halloween! ELTC actors read their favorite Edgar Allen Poe stories, and this year, a selection from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, to commemorate the novel’s 200th birthday! Enjoy tasty treats and cider in the lounge before the show. A very popular event that quickly sells out. (Tickets: $12)

DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE Sunday, October 21 at 7:30 PM This 1920 silent film starring John Barrymore is considered by many to be the first great American horror film. Although Bar-rymore had been acting in films since 1914, he had not found the same success he enjoyed on stage, until Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. When Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was published in 1886, it was an immediate suc-cess. Clara Beranger adapted a successful stage version of the novel for this 1920 film. Once again, ELTC is presenting a silent classic the way it was meant to be heard: with live music. Since 2011, Wayne Zimmerman has enchanted our audiences with his original organ accompaniment, and he’ll be doing so again.

SHERLOCK HOLMES: ADVENTURE OF THE SPECKLED BANDOctober 26–27 and November 2–3 at 8:00 PM (Also March 15 and 16, 2019)Holmes and Watson race against time to stop the bizarre murders in an eerie country manor. Performed “radio-style” with live sound effects and commercials, it is based on one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s personal favorites and his play The Stoner Case, adapt-ed by Craig Wichman, with the permission of Dame Jean Conan Doyle. His script received the National Federation of Community Broadcasters’ “Gold Reel” for Radio Drama Award. The cast of six once more includes Lee O’Connor as Holmes and Fred Velde as Dr. Watson. (Tickets $28/$20)
