MAIN TASK INITIAL IDEAS!
AIM AND PURPOSE!
• The aim and purpose of this slide show is to show
you my initial ideas for my magazine designs. This is
for my AS Media Coursework.
• I would like your feed back on the three different
magazine designs so I can come to the conclusion
to which magazine I will actually design and make!
• I have chosen three genre‟s: hip-hop, light rock,
and R&B.
IDEA 1
• Genre: Hip-Hop
• Target Audience: 80% male, 20% female. Predominantly younger males.
• Age range: 14 – 22, laid back lifestyle.
• Colour scheme: red, black, white
• Language – possibly slang terms and simple English, „chav‟ talk.
• Double page spread feature: a day in the life of „*artists name*‟
• Double page spread images: images of *artist* at his home doing what he
would do in the day.
• Front cover images: sideways facing, blank expression, white male, rural
„brick‟ background.
• Contents page: contents text going down one side of the page and then
pictures of „this weeks‟ cover lines.
• Layout of front page: masthead at the top of the page, image in the middle,
coverlines going down either side. Barcodes etc. at bottom, straplines at top
and bottom.
IDEA 2
• Genre: Light Rock
• Target Audience: aimed at males, slightly older males, so slightly older bands
maybe?
• Age Range: 20 – 35 years, „fun‟ lifestyle.
• Colour Scheme: black, grey, red, possible white & blue.
• Language: more „sophisticated‟ language due to age, but still slang words..
„rock talk.
• Double page spread feature: „ On tour with *bands name*
• Double page spread image(s): images of the band on tour, various stages
and the journey etc.
• Front cover images: a picture of the band with their instruments.
• Contents pages: large picture at the top of the page (top two thirds of the
page) and then the contents at the bottom.
• Layout of front page: have the mast head going down the side of the page
and the top, can be seen from both places, image in center or on the right.
IDEA 3
• Genre: R&B
• Target audience: aimed at 70% female 30% male. Predominantly female.
Current artists.
• Age range: 14 – 24, most likely will be students.
• Color scheme: blue, red, light green, white, black
• Language: informal „laid back‟ attitude, simple English.
• Double page spread feature: review of *artists name*‟s new album
• Double page spread image(s): images of the album and artist, the artist
behind a microphone „recording‟ the track.
• Front cover image: image of the artist and possibly the new album
• Contents page: contents going down the middle of the page, pictures down
either side of the writing.
• Layout of front cover: mast head overlapping the group members so it stands
out, leave no empty space, bright colour background.
POTENTIAL TITLES
FEEDBACK
• Brother (15)“I thought idea 1 was the best idea because there aren't that
many on the market and me being in this target audience would like
something like this. I would go with the first idea.”
• Sister (18) “personally I thought the third idea was the best idea. I would say
you would have to research what you actually want to put in the magazine
because lots of magazines have that sort of martial”
• Mum (40‟s) “I thought for you the best one would be the hip-hop one
because lots of teenage boys listen to that kind of music and if I was a
teenage boy I would buy it!”
• Dad (40‟s) “ I liked the second idea the most because I really enjoy rock
music and I would defiantly buy it! It looks like your putting fairly recent bands
in so I would try and stretch to older bands like ACDC and the rolling stone
etc.”
• Cousin (27) “ if I was going to do one I would pick idea 2. but the only thing I
would change is no masthead down the side because not many magazines
are now stacked like that! Otherwise yes, I would pick number 2”
FINAL DECISION!
• I‟ve decided to chose the Hip-Hop idea due to my feedback on my initial ideas. I've also chosen this
font for the main headline because “it fits the
environment of a rapper” (mum)
