The Standard Series is our broadest and most comprehen-sive line of radial-leaded varistors. These components consist of wire leads and have nominal disk diameters from 3mm to 25mm. They are available with maximum continuous operating voltages (MCOV) ranging from 11VAC to 1000VAC.

The Standard Series is designed to handle most low and medium power applications requiring through-hole components. Most sizes are available in Tape and Reel and ammo pack.

Style DesignationThe Maida style number is the primary means to identifyour components when ordered. The style number identifiesseveral parameters that are important for the characteristicsof the device. Observe the following part numbering systemwhen ordering our components:

1. Coating DesignationD – Standard Epoxy CoatingNo code with 31 lead code denotes no coating.

2. Nominal Disk Diameter56 – 3mm 79 – 15mm58 – 5mm 64 – 16mm73 – 7mm 63 – 18mm61 – 10mm 65 – 20mm71 – 11mm 66 – 25mm62 – 12mm69 – 14mm

3. Lead Configuration code(refer to lead codes)

4. Material Identifier, zinc-oxide varistor5. AC Voltage Rating code, two

significant figures plus number of zeroes that follow, e.g. 511 is 510 VAC

6. Special Instructions code, RA is standard7. Energy Rating code, up to three numbers

(refer to ratings tables)

An example of a typical Maida style number isD6521ZOV151RA20. This style number displays a nominaldisk size of 20mm, a standard lead code showing straightwire leads, a maximum AC continuous operating voltage of 150 VAC.

Standard MarkingMinimum marking information shall consist of an abbreviatedstyle designation and, when space is available, the manufac-turer’s initials "MDC" or the company logo.

For example:MDCZ511110UL

Where:Z – Represents "ZOV"511 – AC voltage rating code110 – Energy rating codeUL – UL recognition if applicable

A manufacturing date code is available upon request. Other safety agency designations are included if applicable.

How to Order the Standard SeriesThe following specifications tables provide a way to matchthe Maida style number to a varistor that provides the necessary specifications for a specific application. Once the general style number is obtained, it will be necessary todetermine the required lead configuration. Refer to the leadcodes section and add the required code to the Maida stylenumber when ordering. Custom lead configurations areavailable. Contact our engineering department for additionalinformation.

Dimensions such as mounting height above the seatingplane, lead spacing, and maximum thickness with regards to each lead code is available in the mechanical dimensionstables.
