It is recommended to attend the class between 28 and 37 weeks of pregnancy. If you have a
selected labor support person, he or she should accompany you to the class. If they cannot attend,
you will still benefit greatly from the class and are encouraged to attend regardless.

your partner. A doula package includes prenatal visits, a listening ear, resources, continuous

The Psychology Clinic is open to children, adults, and families living in the Richmond and
surrounding Central and Eastern Kentucky communities, including EKU faculty and staff. There
are no eligibility requirements for applying to the clinic. Because it is a training facility with a
limited number of staff, the clinic reserves the right to decide which potential clients can best be
served at any given time.
Fees for services are set on a sliding scale from $6.00 to $50.00 for each visit. They are based on
a person's income, number of dependents, and ability to pay. The clinic does not accept insurance
payments but sets fees that will not be a burden to the client. Fees for assessment services are also
based on a sliding scale.

HANDS is a voluntary program for first time moms and/or dads residing in Madison Co.
Families begin my meeting with a HANDS parent visitor who will discuss any questions or
concerns about pregnancy or a baby’s first years. Based on this discussion, all families will
receive information and learn about resources available in the community for new parents. Some
families will receive further support through home visitation. Services can begin during
pregnancy or anytime before a child is 3 months old.

An educational program built around seven keys for unlocking an infant or toddler's

Grandparents as Parent (GAP)
We will have our fellowship potluck luncheon. Except for our ‘Summer in the Park’ series,
children do not attend meetings, due to subject matter. Our parenting focus will be, “Happy
Families”.
Small Friends
Please join us for a healthy snack, simple craft, and playtime! Parents enjoy fellowship,
grown up discussions, and parenting focus will be “Happy Families”. Small Friends is a
family support group for little ones from pre-natal up to their 5th birthday and for those

MOM stands for “Mothers on Mission”. It is ministry of Red House Baptist Church, but
welcome women of any faith or non-faith background to attend. Their mission is to provide a safe
environment where moms can gather for encouragement and fellowship as they fulfill their
mission at home and beyond. Formerly known as MOPS and affiliated with MOPS International,
they are now excited to welcome mothers with children of all ages (not just preschoolers) and
provide meetings free of charge. Childcare is provided for children ages birth to 5 years, but older
children are welcome to come and find a space nearby to work or play quietly. Meetings begin
with breakfast at 9 am and end at 11 am. Each month will feature a different speaker or
devotional time and related activity or mission project. They cannot wait to see you there!
Early Learning Activities/Music Time (Madison County Schools)
The local public-school Family Resource Centers (FRYSC) provide early learning programs for
children 0-5 yrs. of age. They sing, read stories, have “hands-on” activities and dance all while
learning how to follow directions, cooperate with others and many more literacy and kindergarten

The GED Plus program allows you to earn a tuition-free college credential while also earning
your GED at the same time. Eligible students will choose from one of the five high demand
fields/areas of study and will receive extra support and one-on-one attention from faculty and

New Pathways for Fathers and Families (Fatherhood Program)
Provides job coaching, financial, relationship and parenting advice seminars for residents
Community Collaboration for Children In-Home Service Program (CCC)
CCC empowers the family unit by promoting the safety, well-being, strength and stability
of children and families by teaching problem solving skills, appropriate discipline
techniques, self-sufficiency, and coordinating community resources.

CCC staff provides short-term home-based intervention services from birth to age 18.
Participation in the CCC Program is voluntary. Following a discussion with the referral
source about the program’s services, the family needs to consent to participate. Services
address children’s physical, mental, emotional and educational needs while providing
families with the help they need to prevent removal of children from the home and move
toward healthy long-term safety and stability.
The In-Home Service Specialist, together with the referral source, will work with each
family to help meet their specific goals using the Family Wellness Curriculum. Intensive
short-term home-based interventions are aimed at assisting families in learning to live
together in an environment that is safe and nurturing. Referrals may be made by any
community partner, DCBS or self-referral.

The certified nurse aide training (CNA) course consists of 75 hours of instruction including
lecture, skills and clinical experience. Upon completion of the course, students will receive a
Certificate of Completion enabling them to take their Kentucky State Registered Nursing
Assistant Exam at a state approved testing center.
The online nursing assistant training course consists of 36.5 hours of study at home, 22.5 hours of
skills and 16 hours of clinical experience.

Provides a warm and safe environment for those in need of temporary housing; it is open seven
days a week. The shelter opens at 6 pm and closes at 7 am. Each guest receives a care package
containing soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and a toothbrush, along with bedding a washcloth, and a
towel. An evening meal is served at 7 pm and breakfast at 6:30 am.
The shelter has a men’s dorm and a women’s dorm; each dorm sleeps eight people. A family
room is available for mothers with children. Single individuals must be 18 or older and have a
picture ID and a social security card.

The New Liberty Homeless Shelter provides temporary shelter for homeless families for up to
six months, while working with these families to obtain permanent housing. The shelter has six
two- and three-bedroom apartments equipped to handle homeless families with children. Staff

Eligible persons include homeless who live on the street, in an emergency shelter, in places not
meant for human habitation, being evicted within a week, being discharged within a week from
an institution in which the person has been a resident for more than 30 days or fleeing a domestic
violence situation.

management, transportation, medical assistance, budget/credit classes, food assistance,
heating/cooling assistance, utility assistance, educational assistance, GED preparation and
referrals.

Foothills Express operates a public deviated-fixed transportation route in Berea and Richmond.
Riders can board the bus at any of the stops we tentatively have set up for only $1.00. These
stops include stores, apartment communities, city and county offices and businesses. The Berea
route is on an hour-long loop and riders will be able to get off at any stop. The Richmond route is
on two 90-minute loops and riders will be able to get off at any stop. Wheelchair assisted door-
to-door service is available for no additional cost. In Richmond, both buses are wheelchair
accessible. Bulk passes are available.
Kentucky River Foothills Special Needs Housing

Foothills Community Action Partnership has received a grant that helps provide housing for
chronically homeless persons. Per HUD the definition for chronically homeless is as follows:
❖ A single person with a disabling condition who is living on the streets (place not meant for
human habitation) or in a shelter.
▪ HUD defines “disabling condition” as “diagnosable substance use disorder, serious
mental illness, developmental disability, or chronic physical illness or disability,
including the co-occurrence of two or more of these conditions. A disabling

condition limits an individual’s ability to work or perform one or more activities of
daily living.”
❖ This person must have been continuously homeless for a year or more or has had at least
four episodes of homelessness in the past three years.

Lifeline and Link-up Programs (Affordable Telephone Service)- Call your local telephone
company
Lifeline helps with the monthly costs of telephone service. Qualified applicants will receive a
credit on their monthly bill. The credit is limited to one line per household at the principle place
of residence.
Link-Up Kentucky helps pay for the connection of new telephone service. If you dot already
have a telephone, Link-Up can provide a reduction of up to 50% on service connection and
installation charges. It may be possible to pay the remaining connection charges over a period of
several months.
In Kentucky, an adult recipient of any of these programs is eligible: Medicaid, Food Stamps,
Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Federal Public Housing, Low Income Home Energy
Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Just call your local telephone company.
