Welcome to Music at the MACSince long before the groundbreaking for the McAninch Arts Center, student and community musicians have explored the musical arts, honed their skills and entertained audiences at College of DuPage. From buildings M and K on west campus to off-campus sites to the McAninch Arts Center and now at the newly renovated MAC, the sounds of learning, making and listening to music have filled our classrooms and our stages.

Students and community members from throughout the district converge on the MAC every week for the joy of making music. Our singers and players range from their teens to their 80s, from those seeking degrees to those who have already earned them, to those who make music purely for the love of it.

We hope you enjoy the broad range of music we make with collaborations of eager musicians and experienced faculty in music from classical, jazz and unclassifiable styles. All of our ensembles welcome new members at the start of every semester and all of our ensembles perform at least once a semester.

Sit back and let the music wash over you. Visit the Cleve Carney Art Gallery while you’re here. Drop in on our free Music Fridays @ Noon. Stay connected to us by joining us on Facebook (AtTheMAC) or by joining our e-newsletter for news about all the events at the MAC (www.AtTheMAC.org). And think about coming back to join one of our ensembles or take private lessons or music courses.

We’re grateful to have you in our audience—and grateful for all the advantages of making music at College of DuPage.

Enjoy the music—we make it for you.

Founded in 1969, the DuPage Community Concert Band started as a daytime concert band for students and a nighttime band for the community. In 1982 the band was consolidated into one community group. The size of the group has grown ever since. The 2015–16 school year marks the 46th anniversary of the band.

The band plays two concerts per semester in the McAninch Arts Center Belushi Performance Hall. Membership is open to all high school graduates with woodwind, brass or percussion experience who are otherwise qualified to register. Auditions are required for chair placement, but no one is refused membership. Membership is open each semester in all sections. Call (630) 942-2048 for registration information.

Through music education, and the performance of our music literature, we desire to help facilitate the enjoyment of playing in a band program for all who wish to do so. The exposure to the beauty and expression of music, and the involvement in the activities that are congruent to a person’s involvement in the fine arts, will forever enhance that person’s life.

The DuPage Community Concert Band program exists to embrace and express all of the beauty and glory we can share with each other through playing great music. We try to program concerts that are entertaining to the audiences, stimulating to the performers, and consistent with the representation and growth of the college and community band medium. The support of the membership, and their desire to perform great music, are the reasons that the DuPage Community Concert Band continues today.

It is our goal that you enjoy the music we will be presenting in our concert. We hope you will like what you hear as much as we delight in performing it for you.

Terry Redford studied music at DePaul University, finishing his Bachelor of Arts in Music degree at Elmhurst College. He later received his Master of Music Education from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago.

When Redford was 19, he was appointed as the director of the Catholic Youth Organization Youth Band. Later he founded the Driscoll Catholic High School and Grade School band programs. Redford moved to public school music education and became the director of bands at Wheaton Central High School. He became director of bands at Lemont High School in 1989.

Redford has performed as a professional trombonist with the CYO Bands, VanderCook College Band, DePaul University Band, Elmhurst College Band, Elmhurst Symphony, DuPage Symphony, West Suburban Symphony, Brass Tracks Jazz Orchestra, and Peter Ellman Jazz Band, and he does many other professional performances throughout the Chicago area.

In 1980, Redford founded the Catholic Concert Band Competition known as State of the Art and has been the co-host for the Midwest Music Festival since 1991.

Redford is an adjudicator and clinician throughout the Midwest. He has been the guest conductor for the SWIC and SICCA conference festivals and has presented seminars on computer music technology for the SSC conference.

In 2007, he became the fourth director of the College of DuPage Community Band. He enjoys being the conductor of a program that exemplifies the process of continuing music in the lives of those who enjoy it.

The Friends of the MAC is a family of people who have decided that a world-class performing and visual arts center should reside in their community. Ticket sales only provide 42 percent of our $3 million operating budget. It is through the support of College of DuPage and through the generous gifts from patrons and local businesses that we can keep art in our gallery and on our stages.

Your gift to the MAC • Brings nationally and internationally renowned artists to our community • Supports our SchoolStage program that annually offers affordable arts experiences to thousands of school children • Provides students and community members the opportunity to interact with artists • Enhances the quality of life in our community

Without the generous support of the Friends of the MAC we would not be the cultural hub of DuPage County. We gratefully thank our friends and we invite others to join them.

For complete details, visit the MAC Ticket Offi ce or call the MAC at (630) 942-2263 or the College of DuPage Foundation at (630) 942-2466.

Arts Center and MAC-tastic Treat Seats EndowmentsDonors may choose to direct gifts to the Arts Center Endowment or the newly established MAC-tastic Treat Seats — Tickets for Kids & Families Endowment. Donations made to these MAC’s Endowments, our “savings accounts,” go into a principal secured, invested accounts that will provide ongoing support for arts programs and arts accessibility for years to come.

The McAninch Arts Center and the College of DuPage Foundation can also provide you with information on Planned Giving opportunities.

For more information, please contact the MAC at (630) 942-2263, the College of DuPage Foundation at (630) 942-2466 or visit foundation.cod.edu.
