5.16 Site Inspection Report - Fairwind Senior Public School (Ward 5)

Site inspection report for the inspection conducted on November 24, 2016 at the intersection of Ceremonial Drive and Fairwind Drive for the students attending Fairwind Senior Public School.

RECOMMENDATION 1. That Peel Regional Police be requested to enforce stopping compliance during the

peak times of 7:50 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 2:25 p.m. to 2:40 p.m. at the intersection of Ceremonial Drive and Fairwind Drive for the students attending Fairwind Senior Public School

2. That Transportation and Works be requested to refresh the zebra markings at the intersection of Ceremonial Drive and Fairwind Drive for the students attending Fairwind Senior Public School.

5.17 Site Inspection Report - Sheridan Park Public School and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School

Site Inspection Report for the inspection conducted on November 3, 16, 23, 2016 at the intersection of Sheridan Park Drive and Fifth Line West for the students attending Sheridan Park Public School and St. Francis Catholic School.

RECOMMENDATION 1. That the warrants are not met for the retention of a school crossing guard at the

intersection of Sheridan Park Drive and Fifth Line West for the students attending Sheridan Park Public School and St. Francis Catholic School.

2. That the crossing located at Sheridan Park Drive and Fifth Line West for the students attending Sheridan Park Public School and St. Francis Catholic School be closed effective March break 2017.

3. That the Principals of Sheridan Park Public School and St. Francis Catholic School be requested to notify the parents and the students of their respective school, that the crossing located at Sheridan Park Drive and Fifth Line West will be closed effective March break 2017.

4. That Transportation and Works be requested to review the feasibility of installing Traffic Signals at the intersection of Sheridan Park Drive and Fifth Line West for the students attending Sheridan Park Public School and St. Francis Catholic School.

5.18 Site Inspection/Safety Review Form Working Group Update

Altamash Syed, Citizen Member to present the draft Site Inspection/Safety Review form with amendments as discussed at the September 28, 2016 Traffic Safety Council meeting.

The following recommendations emanated from the Public Information Subcommittee meeting on November 14, 2016.

RECOMMENDATION 1. That the 2016 Wilde Wood Award for School Zone Safety be awarded to Artesian

Public School ryJard 8), Ridgewood Public School ryJard 5), and St. Timothy Catholic School ryJard 7), which have demonstrated that they have a team of staff and/ or volunteers that deserve to be recognized for the efficient operation of the School Zone Safety (Kiss & Ride) Program and promote and/or encourage active transportation to and from school.

2. That $1,500.00 ($500.00 per school) be allocated for awarding the recipients of the 2016 Wilde Wood Award.

RECOMMEND APPROVAL

RECOMMENDATION That the Traffic Safety Council 2017 Workplan be approved as presented.

MAITERS CONSIDERED

1. Dr. Arthur Wood Nomination Selection

Members of the Public Information Subcommittee discussed potential recipients for the Dr. Arthur Wood Award for 2016. Subcommittee members agreed that there would be no recipient for this year's Dr. Arthur Wood Award.

2. Wilde Wood Award Selection

Applications received were reviewed and the selection of 2 schools from the Peel District School Board and 1 school from the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board was made.

RECOMMENDATION 1. That the 2016 Wilde Wood Award for School Zone Safety be awarded to Artesian

Public School (Ward 8), Ridgewood Public School (Ward 5), and St. Timothy Catholic School (Ward 7), which have demonstrated that they have a team of staff and/ or volunteers that deserve to be recognized for the efficient operation of the School Zone Safety (Kiss & Ride) Program and promote and/or encourage active transportation to and from school.

2. That $1,500.00 ($500.00 per school) be allocated for awarding the recipients of the 2016 Wilde Wood Award.

3. Traffic Safety Council 2017 Workplan

Members discussed projects, collaborations and participation for Traffic Safety Council in 2017.

RECOMMENDATION

That the Traffic Safety Council 2017 Workplan be approved as presented.

4. Safety Messages (emanating from the OTC Conference)

Members agreed that a working group be formed with some Members of the Public Information and Walk to School Subcommittees to work on safety messages to be broadcast on social media. Members who volunteered are Dan Suess, who will take the lead on this project, Heather Relf, Altamash Syed, and Tamara Coulson. The working group will meet over the next month and will provide an update to Members of Traffic Safety Council in January 2017.
