We’ve just had a wonderful autumn at the Lyric. And the spring promises to be equally exciting. The joyous new musical Spring Awakening launches a season of thrilling work for all ages. There is truly something for everyone.

I am leaving the Lyric this spring to become Associate Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company. See page 18 for an introduction to my fabulous successor, Sean Holmes.

Thank you for an amazing three and a half years at the Lyric — the most adventurous theatre in London.

In a world where grown-ups hold all the cards, three school friends experience the exhilarating, turbulent journey into adulthood… Spring Awakening is a vibrant and poignant story about a brilliant young student Melchior, his troubled friend Moritz, and a beautiful teenage girl, Wendla — all on a voyage of personal discovery and sexual awakening.

Inspired by Frank Wedekind’s 1891 masterpiece of repressed emotion and adolescent passion, Spring Awakening explodes onto the Lyric stage driven by a thrilling contemporary score. The Lyric has invited the entire original creative team behind the highly acclaimed New York production to stage the London premiere with a new British cast.

This is a perilous and playful journey into the stratosphere from two inventive award-winning companies, Theatre-Rites and aerialists Ockham’s Razor.

Hang On will be a family spectacle, suspended dramatically above the Lyric stage, mixing contemporary circus, movement, humour and live percussion.

He didn’t know a black person until he was eighteen. It wasn’t his fault. They just thought it was better that way. He spent most of his adult life searching for his family who were black like him.

Why I Don’t Hate White People is a whirlwind tour of one man’s life. The child of an unlikely liaison between Ethiopia, Eritrea and Wigan Social Services, Lemn Sissay grew up in the small villages of Lancashire. Now he presents the most serious of subjects through a journey of mental gymnastics and laughter to discover why he doesn’t hate white people. Playwright, performer and broadcaster, Lemn Sissay’s work includes Tender Fingers in a Clenched Fist, The Listener, and his plays include Chaos By Design, Storm and Something Dark. He is the Southbank Centre’s Artist-in-Residence.

‘An adrenaline-fuelled performance. The actor’s glorious smile and his flair for turning personal struggle into stand-up and poetry is effortlessly entertaining.’ The Guardian on Something Dark

If That’s All There Is is a mini epic of longing, envy, disappointment and psychobabble, starring a therapist vigilante, her moody daughter, her happy son, her pent-up patient and his thrill-seeking fiancée.

Over one long summer, their lives intertwine, knot and fray, periodically hinting at an explosive climax. Will it be a gunfight between two women? A terrible motorcycle accident? The kidnap of a young executive? Or will it just be an ordinary summer which threatens to be swelteringly hot but never quite caps pleasantly warm?

Inspired by the Peggy Lee song, If That’s All There Is takes a funny and unflinching look at our obsession with finding happiness. This is the latest show from the company behind the award-winning and international touring hit Hysteria.

‘Inspector Sands examines the perils, complexities and absurdities of modern life… faultlessly performed, painfully real and very, very slick. Hilarious.’ HHHHH Metro on Hysteria

Behind a window, in a cosy room, a group of friends sit down for a meal. The food is being cooked; the lamps are on, everyone is happy. Talk begins and soon stories unfold around the table, stories about the living and the dead, about missing necklaces and what happens when people get hungry.

Outside someone is watching. Vanishing Point return to the Lyric with this major international collaboration following their sell-out hit Subway. Utterly hypnotic, Interiors is about sounds, silence, and the darkness outside the window.

This production is inspired by the Nobel Prize winner Maurice Maeterlinck’s astonishing play, Interior.

By Bus Loads of buses go to and through Hammersmith. We’re just 2 minutes from Hammersmith Broadway Bus Station.
