keepbackupsofimportantfilesinthelocalcloud,andshareimportantfilesbetweenallmachinesrunningownCloud.InstallingownCloudcreatesonyoursystemalocalfilethatisperiodicallycheckedagainstafileonthecloud.Anythingthatisplacedinthislocalfolderwillalsobeputinthecloud.AnythingplacedinthecloudwillbeplacedonallmachinesrunninganownCloudclientthatyouaresignedinto.Thelocalfilesandthefilesonthecloudwillalwaystrytobethe

same.IfyoudeleteoraddanythingtotheownCloudlocalfileorcloudfile,thatfilewillbeaddedordeletedfromanysystemrunningownCloudyouaresignedinto.

InstallingownCloudforMac

MakesurethatyouhavereceivedyourownCloudUsernameandpassword.

DownloadingownCloud

1. Gotohttps://files.lbc.msu.edu2. Enteryourusernameandpasswordthatyoureceived.

3. Afirsttimeuserwindowwillopen.Thiswindowispromptingyoutodownloadthedesktopclient.Clickthedesktopclientbutton,itistheleftmostblackbutton.

3.SelecttheoptionforMacOSX10.7+64bit

4.Yourdownloadwillappearinthelowerleftofyourscreeninyourdownloadsapp.Clickonthedownloadtostarttheinstall.

5.AninstallationWizardwillopentoguideyouthroughthestepsofinstallingownCloud.Clickcontinue.

6.OnthisscreenyoumaychangetheinstallationlocationofownCloud.Makesureyoutakenoteoftheinstallationlocation.Clickinstalltoproceed.

7.OncetheinstallationisfinishedclickClosetocontinue.

8.UsetheFindertolocateownCloudinyourapplicationsfolder.ClicktheownCloudapptostartfirsttimesetup.

9.OwnCloudwillopentoascreenaskingyoutoinputtheserveraddress.TheserveraddressforLymanBriggsishttps://files.lbc.msu.edu/.Onceyouhaveenteredtheaddressclicknexttocontinue.

10.NextyoumustinputyourUsernameandpasswordthatyoureceived.Onceyouhaveenteredthemintherequiredfields,clicknexttocontinue.

11.ThispageallowsyoutosetupadefaultdirectoryforownCloud.Wearegoingtoskipthis.PressSkipfoldersconfigurationtocontinue.

12.YouwillbebroughttothesettingspageofownCloud.ToaddafoldertobesyncedpressAddfolder…

13.Onthisscreenyouwillpickthelocalfolderthatyouwouldliketobesyncedtothecloud.Presschoosetocontinue.

14.Inthisexample,wewillbesyncingthedocumentsfolder.SelectDocumentsfromtheFavoritesbarontheleftandclickOpentocontinue

15.YoumaychangetheDirectoryaliasnametosomethingthatwillhelpkeepyouorganized.Inthiscase,wehavechosentoleaveinthedefaultofDocuments.ClickContinuetocontinue.

16.NowwewillbechoosingthefolderontheownCloudserverwherethelocalfileswillbesyncedto..ClickCreateFoldertocontinue.

17.Wewillcreateafoldercalleddocuments2tosyncto.Youmaynamethefolderanythingyouwish,itdoesnothavetobedocuments2.ClickOKwhenyouhavenamedyourfolder.

18.Selectthefolderyouhavecreated,inthiscasedocuments2andpressContinuetoproceed.

19.Inthissectionyouwillselectanysubfoldersofthemainfolderyouwouldlikesynced.Allfolderswillbesyncedbydefault.Uncheckanyfolderyoudonotwishtosync.OnceyouhavemadeyourselectionsclickAddFoldertocontinue.

20.Thefolderswillbesynced,thismaytakeafewminutes.Whenthesynciscomplete,agreencirclewithacheckmark,asinthepicture,willappear.Toaddmorefolderstosync,repeatsteps12to20.

1. Onlyfilesplacedinfoldersdesignatedtobesyncedwillbesyncedtothecloud2. Addingafilelocallywilladdthefiletothecloud3. Addingafiletothecloudwilladditlocally4. AnyfileplacedintheownCloudfolderonlineorlocallywillbeplacedinallcomputersthat

arerunningyourownCloudclient.5. AnyfiledeletedfromtheownCloudfolderonlineorlocallywilldeletethefilefromall

computersthatarerunningyourownCloudclient.6. WhencopyingadocumentintotheownCloudfolderyouwillendupwiththreecopiesof

thedocument.Oneintheoriginalfilelocationonyourcomputer.ThesecondisthecopyinyourlocalownCloudfolder.Thethirdcopyisinthecloud.
