The Performers The Lazarus String Quartet is made up of under-graduate and post-graduate students from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch New Zealand. In 2009 they formed as the Lazarus Trio, but have since expanded to a string quartet. Before beginning their tertiary studies, Emma, Julianne and Lindsay were all members of the Pettman Junior Academy, and Alice a member of the Victoria University Academy of Music. All four have been active in the Christchurch music scene for the last three years. Although Lazarus has been together for two years, its members have been playing together in various ensembles since 2006. These ensembles include the Felix Octet and the Bedrich Quartet – both national prize-winners of the New Zealand Community Trust Chamber Music Contest. Collectively, Lazarus String Quartet have had master classes from international musicians, such as Eckhard Fischer, Stephen Schrader, Australian String Quartet, Abegg Trio, Charles Castleman, Gautier Capuçon and Pinchas Zuckerman. Julianne and Alice are currently studying in Germany, but regularly return to the New Zealand to rehearse with the quartet. As winners of the prestigious ROSL/Pettman International Scholarship, the Lazarus Quartet will make a study and performance visit to the UK in July and August 2011 organised and supported by the ROSL.

Presented in association with the Royal Over-Seas League
