Halle Berry was born on August 4, 1966 in Cleveland,

Ohio. Her parents are Jerome Berry and Judith Ann Hawkins. Halle is bi- racial, with her mother being British- born and her father African- American.

It is said that Halle Berry was named after Halle’s

Department Store, a local popular landmark in her

hometown. Halle was very popular in high school as a cheerleader, honor society member, editor of the

school newspaper, class president, and prom queen. Before becoming one of the

biggest female actress in Hollywood history, she entered

several beauty contests, including Miss Ohio, Miss Teen All American, Miss USA, And

Miss World.

The Makings of A Star

▪Berry was crowned Miss World USA in 1986 and was a contestant in the Miss Universe Pageant.

▪In the late 80's, Halle Berry went to Chicago to pursue her career as a model and actress.

▪Her first acting project was a television series for local cable called “Chicago Force.”

▪In 1989, Halle Berry won the role of Emily Franklin in an ABC series called “Living Dolls.”

▪Her breakthrough feature film was in Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever. Her first co-starring role was in the film, Strictly Business.

▪In Alex Haley’s Queen, she got the public’s attention with her portrayal as a female slave, in 1993.

▪In 1994, she was in the movie, Flintstones, as “Sharon Stone.”

▪In the 90's, Halle starting really making a name for herself. In 1996, she was in Executive Decision. ▪1998 was a big year for Halle Berry

because she was in the movie Why do Fools Fall in Love, and named one of People Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People.▪In 1999, Berry won an Emmy for

Outstanding Lead Actress for her portrayal of Dorothy Dandridge in the HBO movie, Introducing Dorothy Dandridge. ▪In 2000's X-Men, she gained a lot of fans,

became very well known and a household name.

Halle Berry becomes the first African-American to win the Academy Award

for best actress in 2002, for her portrayal of Leticia Musgrove, in

Monster’s Ball.

In 2001, Berry starred in a

controversial role ,in the movie, Swordfish.

Berry always refused to do any nude scenes, and this was her first

topless scene in the movie. It is said

that she was allegedly was paid

an additional $500,000.

Also in, Monster’s Ball, she appeared for the first time for

a more extended love scene with Billy

Bob Thornton.

Berry in 2001-02 Controversy-

In 2002's, Gothika, it was one of Berry’s first thriller and the

first movie that she played the most important character

in.

Outside of Hollywood ▪ Halle Berry has been married

twice, but before both marriages, she was in an abusive relationship with

Wesley Snipes.▪ Her first marriage was in 1992 to

a baseball player name David Justice. ▪Her second marriage was in 2001 to musician Eric Benet, ending in

separation.▪She has no children, but is very

close to a step-daughter. She also has two Maltese dogs.

▪Her favorite actresses are Whoppi Goldberg and Jodie Foster. Her role

model is Dorothy Dandridge. ▪Halle’s favorite cosmetic line is

Revlon.

diabetes and she acquired a unilateral hearing loss (80% hearing loss in one ear) after being severely beaten by her former boyfriend, Wesley Snipes.

▪In 2003, Halle was named FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women in the World poll. She also was on MTV’s celebrity prank show, Punk’d.

▪She lives currently with her boyfriend Michael Ealy.
