An outstanding technological profile and Beghelli brand value are

the hallmarks of a project to renew light sources for emergency

lighting. The Stella Polare project uses high efficiency LEDs and

a calibrated light beam for adequate illumination and excellent

energy saving.

The concept behind the Luce Utile project is based on the need

to have a light beam that is ideal for emergency lighting while

achieving the best illumination performance possible. The optics

have been designed specifically to solve ground lighting pro-

blems with the lowest number of luminaires, while conforming to

the values of current standards.

We are proud to unveil our new concept of emergency lighting,

which goes beyond the boundaries of mere product innovation

and instead heralds a breakthrough in the sector.

We are sure that all industry operators, from designers to archi-

tects, wholesalers and fitters, will appreciate the innovative con-

cept behind “Stella Polare” and will relay the benefits to their own

clients, with the ultimate aim of achieving safety in the places whe-

re we live, work and play.

With “Stella Polare”, Beghelli has made a breakthrough in the

emergency lighting sector, in terms of managing light flows and the

“intelligence” of safety lighting systems. Industry operators now

have a range that is ideal for combining technology and safety pro-

cedures, in line with the recommendations of the UNI CEI mixed

working group, which I coordinated, and which produced the stan-

dard UNI CEI 11222.

Acciaio LED features a high technological content for particularly com-plex applications in high risk areas. The die-cast aluminium housing andglass screen have an excellent mechanical strength (IK09) and resistwell to aggressive chemical agents. In industrial applications, the fixtureis ideal for installation in areas with explosive atmospheres caused bygaseous alterations or airborne combustible dust (as indicated in theATEX Directive 94/9/EC). The reflector is in 99.99% antiridescent poli-shed aluminium, with a dual reflection optical system for more uniformillumination. The dual series of high-performance LEDs has a specialextra lens, to make screen illumination even more uniform. The AcciaioBeghelli also features a revolutionary lamp test system ( ): a magneticswitch allows for manual testing of the operation of one fixture, bymoving a magnet close to it, to immediately test efficiency.The safety sign version of the Acciaio LED has an additional opalinepolycarbonate screen for easier installation, which also guaranteesextremely uniform sign illumination (over 500cd/m2). The range alsoincludes a number of measures for easier installation, such as: an incor-porated bubble level, a quick-fit system, feed through wiring, dual wireentry for each terminal, stainless steel, wide-head screws.The following special items are also available on request: self-extingui-shing, polycarbonate screen, laminated glass screen and vandal proofscrew.

CEILING MOUNTINGThe ideal anti-panic photometricsthe ideal photometrics for the Acciaio LED emergency

luminaire, with symmetrical optic comprising two series of

ultra efficient miniature LEDs (over 100 lumens/Watt) to

make it effective at over 3 metres high, and suitable for

ceiling mounting.

The dual reflection, optical configuration produces a parti-

cularly wide-ranging photometric solid, enabling long

distances between installation centres.

WALL MOUNTING diffused emergency lighting, an outstanding sign that hasexcellent illumination, contrast and uniformity.The symmetrical configuration of the light beam guaran-

tees excellent results also for wall mounting.

The amplitude of the photometric solid makes the Acciaio

LED Beghelli an optimal solution for lighting industrial

areas, in compliance with ATEX directive requirements for

zones 2 and 22. The outstandingly uniform illuminance,

combined with a silk-screen printed polycarbonate

screen, make the Acciaio LED a top-of-the range product

for safety sign fixtures in high-risk industrial environments.

RECESSED MOUNTINGless overall dimensions required and less exposure to external agentsThe recessed mounting system for the Acciaio LED

makes it even more compact, with no need for a reces-

sed box as the aluminium housing is used integrated with

a special mounting bracket. This configuration minimises

the overall dimensions of emergency luminaires and sign

units, reducing exposure to shocks and external agents.

This emergency luminaire features an extremely sophisticated elec-tronic technology. The Logica LED is the only emergency luminairesupplied as a centralised version (LG, LGFM), with the Autotest (AT)version automatically configuring if it is not connected to a control unit.Individual luminaires can also be manually tested, using a magnet withthe magnetic switch below the screen. This technology makes it pos-sible to immediately test luminaire efficiency.The circuit also allows for the fixture to be customised to require-ments. Duration can be adjusted, (1h/2h/3h) and Maintained versionscan be changed to Public venue versions, adjusting light intensity tothe venue requirements.This provides an excellent solution when safety signs are the onlyobjects that are visible. The sign must be immediately identifiable, sty-lish, minimal and with uniform components.A symmetrical and extremely uniform illumination make the LogicaLED ideal for wall or ceiling mounting, without an established direc-tion, or for recessed mounting, with the kit provided that includes abox and wire cover. The housing contains a dual reflection optic which integrates twoseries of ultra-efficient LEDs to deliver an unprecedented lightingperformance (up to 600 lm). The highly transparent polycarbonatescreen has been designed to seal the optical unit and provide an IPrating of IP65.

Thermo-fluid dynamics analysis: calculated heat dissipation

To guarantee a long-lasting, high performance LED source, a new

technology, which simulates the heat diffusion in the fixture, has

been adopted: thermo-fluid dynamics analysis can predict the

operating temperature of various components, in order to optimi-

se the heat dissipation system.

In the case of the Lungalargaluce LED ceiling-mounted version,

the luminaire housing dissipates heat, and is made from die-cast

aluminium to optimise efficiency.

A compact size and quick installation

The Lungalargaluce LED is a concentrated mix of technology hou-

sed in a very compact casing. The outer polycarbonate housing

can easily be removed by operating two quick-release locking

mechanisms, which do not require any specific tools to be ope-

ned. Inside, the housing contains an electronic system comprising

the LED module, inverter and battery set.

A quick-fit terminal block is used for wiring.

Thanks to a symmetrical and extremelyuniform illumination, the Design LED can be wall, ceiling, double-sided and recessed mounted, without a specific direction. The poly-carbonate housing contains a dual reflection high diffusion (99.99%)aluminium optic which in turn integrates two series of ultra-efficientLEDs (more than 100 lumen/watt). The tempered glass screen has ametal frame with mirror finish for a particularly attractive look. Theouter housing has numerous pre-drilled inlets for direct assembly onthe most widely-available types of connector blocks and recessedboxes. FruttoLuce6 is an emergency lighting system that can also be usedas maintained lighting, and is ideal for residential and commercialapplications. A rear dip switch lets you switch from SE (non-maintai-ned) to SA (maintained) mode, as required. Plus, an induced lightphotosensor automatically operates the luminaire in SA mode assoon as the ambient light threshold decreases, activating "night-time"mode. The characteristic louver has been designed to direct all lightproduced to the ground as uniformly as possible, to avoid dazzlingpeople in the surrounding area. The installation counter plate has drilled fixing holes, for installationwith all the most widely-available civil lighting ranges. The metal pro-tection plate can be installed, for an IP rating of IP54. RECESSED BOX WITH 6 COMPONENTS

The main optic, with multiple louver con-

figuration, has been designed to maximi-

se ground lighting. The reflector, with

complex faceting, focuses all the light

from the FruttoLuce1 to a ground area in

front of the luminaire.

If the luminaire is positioned approxima-

tely one metre from the ground, the light

area is sufficient as emergency lighting. If

instead, the luminaire is positioned at a

height of 20 cm, it can be used as esca-

pe route lighting with light projected in

the direction required.

Mains LED, looking at the luminaire from

any direction. The light from the LED is

reflected numerous times inside the opti-

cal system, guaranteeing visibility from any

viewpoint.

Induced light photosensor. Allows automa-

tic operation of the luminaire in SA (main-

tained) mode, as soon as the ambient light

threshold lowers.

CEILING MOUNTINGinside standard lighting equipmentThe LED module with inverter has various fixing systems,

for housing in standard lighting equipment.

This new concept of emergency lighting enables existing

lighting systems to be used for a strategic solution in

numerous applications: restructuring work, upgrad ing of

existing systems to regulations, new installations where

the number of lighting devices has to be reduced, and

costs and relative times cut.

Plus with the lenses kit provided, one fixture can be instal-

led at 3 or 7 metres to illuminate an area of more than 150

square metres, or obtain a specific beam to illuminate

a corridor 18 metres long.

A back lightsystem is used, and thanks to a patented optical system, sign illumi-nation is as uniform as possible, and luminosity is excellent. Emergency luminaire

If plugged into a socket and with the selector switched to MIN or

MAX power, Illumina LED automatically comes on in the case of a

black out and goes off when mains power is restored. A green

LED on the luminaire housing shows that the fixture is connected

to the mains.

AA or AAA battery charger (code 3311 only)

The back of the lamp can be opened and contains the power

cable for recharging. The illuminaLED Ricarica model (code 3311)

also has housing to recharge the 4 AA or AAA batteries.

The additional rechargeable batteries may be left inside the lamp

during use, to increase duration to up to 24 hours.

The LOGICA FM control unit manages and controls emergency

fixtures from the Logica FM range. The LOGICA FM control unit

can be managed and controlled from a remote or local PC.

WITH AN UNLIMITED RADIO CAPACITY

The radio waves used by the Logica FM system are very low

power, to avoid any kind of interference and electromagnetic pol-

lution. The power used in radio communication is less than one

hundredth that emitted by a normal

mobile phone.

The signal transmitted from the Control Unit is received by the fir-

st fixture along the "path" stored during the Control Unit start-up

stage; each fixture, fitted with a transceiver and radio amplifier,

receives and transmits the signal of the fixture which follows it

along the stored "path".

AT - Autotest: the integrated control system

ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED CHARGING, TO SAVE ENERGY AND DOUBLE BATTERY LIFETIME

The waste of energy caused by continually charging emergency lumi-

naires is often overlooked. Beghelli has always focussed on environ-

mental issues and has developed a charging system that automati-

cally switches to a subsequent stage after a complete battery char-

ging cycle (12 hours), to maintain the charge and reduce lamp

absorption to less than one Watt. This measure considerably reduces

wasted energy, limits heat build-up and consequent battery stress

and thus increases the useful life of batteries by as much as two times

that obtained with conventional circuits.

SIMPLIFIES PROCEDURES REQUIRED BY

UNI 11222

This system guarantees the testing that must be carried out by

the Prevention and Protection Service Manager as required by

Italian Legislative Decree 81/08 on safety in the workplace.

The duration test includes a control of all lamp functions over a

period equal to the duration required by individual standards, and

is conducted every 26 weeks. An operating test on the lamp, bat-

tery and circuit is also carried out, every 28 days. Test results are

displayed by the multicolour LED on the fixtures. This guarantees

proper monitoring of fixture operation at all times and energy

saving on costs for maintenance staff.

Local control system

The simplest system in conformity to UNI 11222

UNI 11222 defines the procedures for the periodic inspection,

maintenance, revision and testing of safety lighting installations in

buildings, comprising autonomous and centralised emergency ligh-

ting fixtures. The Standard requires in practically all cases emergency

lighting fixtures and/or systems that allow for automatic testing and

actual duration.

It also states that the records from automatic self-diagnostics systems are

valid for compiling periodic test records. The use of Autotest fixtures is the-

refore recommended even for moderate-sized systems, which in economic

terms are practically on a same level as standard conventional emergency fixtures.

Control and management for systems that are self-powered or have a centralised power supply

When a system is of a considerable size (more than 30 - 40 fixtures on average), systems with centrali-

sed auto-diagnostics such as the Logica and Logica FM ranges are recommended.

These have the benefit of grouping periodic test results in one station. The Logica FM system is also extre-

mely convenient as connections in addition to normal power supply cables are not required. This means

that an emergency lighting system with centralised control can even be installed in existing systems,

without making any changes to the wiring, as a dedicated line is not required.

Total quality

The creation of LED light sources marked a turning point in all ligh-

ting sectors.

A source which is evenly distributed with any power, temperature

or colour, will help develop applications in the future, in terms of

improving performance and design flexibility.

The issue of energy saving is addressed by using LED sources in

all possible fields of lighting, as they guarantee long-lasting opera-

tion and excellent lighting, plus a drastic reduction in the amount of

energy required to produce the same lighting performance.

Like all revolutionary technologies, the use of LEDs requires ade-

quate research, to prevent the adoption of “easy solutions” that

could lead to products that do not live up to expectations. The use

of LEDs requires in-depth calculations to determine the appropria-

te power supply and heat dissipation, an accurate souring of raw

materials and new concept studies to calculate lighting require-

ments that are suitable for the new light source.

Only continual research into total quality can create products that

are suitable for new technological developments, combining

performance, design and energy saving.

Thermo-fluid dynamics analysis:

To guarantee a long-lasting, high performance LED source, a new

technology has been adopted which simulates heat diffusion in

the fixture: Thermo-fluid dynamics analysis can predict the opera-

ting temperature of various components, in order to optimise the

heat dissipation system.

Light Emitting Diodes, an ecological choice

Continual advances in technology have led to the development of

the LED light sources over the last few years, which among other

things, allows for outstanding energy savings, and up to 70%

more than that achieved with other light sources. Besides energy

saving and a reduction in CO2, as a result of the reduced con-

sumption of fixtures, LED sources, if powered adequately, increa-

se the life of a light source tenfold, thus reducing volumes of

waste to dispose of or recycle.

SMD electronic circuit integrated in the lamp housing

The sophisticated electronics for Beghelli LED fixtures have been

developed using SMD miniature technology. This technology

allows the overall dimensions of equipment to be reduced and

considerably improves reliability.

Quick, accurate

installation

IP PLUG Beghelli (IP66) cable glands membrane

Beghelli's concept of modern technology embodies simple instal-

lation combined with precision connections. The wiring of new-

generation emergency luminaires must be immediate, and also

guarantee IP ratings. In the case of the IP PLUG, the IP rating is

maintained at IP66. For this reason, all fixtures in the new Stella

Polare LED Beghelli range have multiple configurations for cable

input, which can each house an IP Lock membrane - a special

elastic lip cable glands that can house multi-pole�cables�up�to

13�mm�in�diameter.

"Invisible" connection adapter (IP66)

Quick installation operations must not forego the concept of a sty-

lish system.

The fixtures in the new Stella Polare LED Beghelli range embody

a new design concept for emergency lighting. They feature sim-

ple yet sleek lines, which are not common to normal mechanical

wiring systems.

The "invisible" adapter makes it possible to fit tubular raceways

and spiral sheathing with a diameter of 16 and 20, with a quick-fit

self-locking system that reduces the overall dimensions of the

installed fixture, speeds up installation, and when required, gua-

rantees an IP rating of IP66.

With their focus on installation and ergonomics, products in the

Stella Polare LED Beghelli range have been designed to make

every part of installation even easier: to make it quicker to position

the housing during fixing, a bubble level has been incorporated to

show the fixture's horizontal position.

Recessed box provided

The look of the recessed version is often more attractive than the

ceiling version. The thickness of the visible part gives the fixture a

leaner profile. In some cases the recessed box is also supplied

with a wire cover, to complete installation.

connector boxes of civil lighting systems

The housing of Stella Polare LED Beghelli fixtures has internal

tracking, for fixing on main European and American standard con-

nector boxes. This is particularly useful for installation in existing

systems, where masonry works or unattractive additional

ch the fixture can reach, with an established installation height.

The figure in metres corresponds instead to the surface area (side

x side) which the fixture illuminates with the minimum value indi-

cated in EN 1838.

By combining the two data, elements are provided for the imme-

diate evaluation of the lighting characteristics of an emergency

luminaire.

indicated in the Luce Utile project, and indicated alongside the icon which specifies the direction and amplitude of the light beam.

The definition of the lighting characteristics of a fixture may be simplified, using the only item of data useful for design purposes:ground illuminance expressed in Lux. To ensure this data, some typical installation situations need to be sized, cataloguing each

product not on light flow, but on the basis of various lighting data in different conditions of use for which the fixture is intended.
