într'o zi fiind invitat la masă într'o fa. milie modestă, tocate rudele gazdei lua­seră loc in jurul ei, ca să prânzeas­că in tovărşia marelui scriitor.

Ca fel de mâncare deosebit, gazda a. vea la masă un pui ,,en casserole". Pu­iul era foarte mic, mai ales in proporţie cu numărul mare al invlialilor.

— Ei bine, scumpe Maestre, spuse gazda uuresdnau-se lui Tristan Ber­nard, cum găsiţi acest pui ?

— Să vedeţi, puiul acesta e foarte a-petisant, dar parcă are de spus ceva...

— Are de spus ceva?!.. Ce anume? — la uitaţi.vă bine la el, nu vi se

pare că spune: „Ce, de lume e la masă, ce de lume !...." «

Un prieten reproşa lui Erasme că nu mănâncă post in Vinerea Paş-lelui. Eras­me îi răspunse :

— Să vezi, am sufletul catolic, dar stomacul meu e de ateu !

Un bancher bogat, fost ministru al Ar­telor pe vremea lui Napoleon al Ill.lea, ţinea cu orice preţ să aibă in galeria sa de tablouri o pânză de Eugen De­lacroix. De aceea, chemă pe marele pic­tor şi îi spuse că il va plăii cu c sumă regală.

— In ceeace priveşte subiectul, adao­gă Ministrul, las aceasta la inspiraţia d-tale. Acelaş lucru şi cu dimensiunile tabloului care rămân la latitudinea d-tale. Singurul lucru ce doresc, c să am un tablou dc d-ta.... Sper că nu voiu avea nici un fel dc neînţelegere !..,

— Sper şi eu, răspunse pictorul zâm­bind

— Totuş aşi avea să-ţi fac o observa­ţie şl te rog să-mi faci şi mie un hatâr!

— Cu toată plăcereu, ce anume? — Fii bun şi schimbă-ţi maniera pen­

tru tabloul pe care îl pictezi pentru minfi !...

« Un umalor, comandase pictorului Lan-

tara un tablou care trebuia să înfăţişeze interiorul unei mănăstiri. Lan tara, fiind peisagist, nu ştia să picteze figuri, de a-ceea pânza lui reprezenta interiorul mă. năstirei fără nici un călugăr.

Cumpărătorul îi spuse: — Uite ce este, domnule Lanlara, ta­

bloul d-talc e foarte frumos, are mult pitoresc, dar nu văd nici un călugăr!...

— Păi, să vedeţi, călugării, la ora când am luat eu schiţa, erau tocmai în biserică, la slujbă.
