LOVE GOD, LOVE PEOPLE, SHARE CHRIST. . . 01/24: John 1:35-42 In this week’s passage we see two of John’s disciples turn and follow Jesus, and one of them even goes and tells his brother about Jesus. What do you do when you discover something profound and remarkable? Who do you often tell first? Why do discovery, joy and excitement naturally lead to telling and bringing? Are these words that you would use when you think about Jesus? Read Matt 4:18-20. What would you say is the thing you find most challenging part of the concept of being a disciple? How do Andrew and Simon, two fishermen with no training in teaching, and their “immediate” reaction to be called as Jesus’ disciples in these verses in Matthew encourage you as a disciple of Christ? What is something you can do in the coming weeks as a first step toward making and developing more disciples for Christ? 6200 Linworth Rd | Worthington, OH 43085 614-844-4477 | [email protected] | linworthbaptist.org Interested in Membership or Baptism? TAKING A CLOSER LOOK

1. What are 1-2 things that "shine" from this passage?

Whatever impacts the most or draws attention.

2. What are 1-2 things that are difficult to understand in

the text, or a question that you would like to ask the

writer of the passage or the Lord?

3. What is the central idea of the passage?

4. What are 1-2 personal applications for your own life?

5. With a friend: Find out what is going on in each

other's lives. What has been their greatest joy this

week? Greatest challenge this week and how they've

handled it? What is one area each of you could pray

about for each other as it relates to growing with

your relationship with the Lord, a spouse, child or

     friend?

?

Whether you are meeting with someone this week or you are

getting into the Word on your own, we encourage you to work

through these questions as you take a deeper look at the

sermon passage from this week, or as you dig deeper into the

"Read the Bible in Two Years" reading plan that we are currently

working through as a church.

Lamentations 3:22-23 22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; 23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

John 1:35-42 (ESV) 1 The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, 36 and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” 37 The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. 38 Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?” 39 He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. 40 One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). 42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas” (which means Peter).
