Buchheim museum
Mission Statement Lothar-Günther Buchheim is well known as the best-selling author of the novel and movie hit, „The Boat“. But Buchheim was also an artist, reporter, gallery owner, publisher and photo journalist. And one of the most important collectors of German Expressionism. His Museum der Phantasie in Bernried right on the shore of Lake Starnberg has been there since 2001, and is truly much more than just a museum – it is the perfect day out, a world of wonders and a feast for the senses!
Along with the expressionists there is also Buchheim‘s „Wiesenpfade der Kunst“, a curious collection of found objects from all over the world. Children are absolutely crazy about the mini-circus, the underwater BMW and the painted real helicopter. Yellow loungers in the romantic museum park and on the terraces are simply ideal for a picnic.
Location The museum is located in an old park (laid out according to the English model) directly on the shore of Lake Starnberg. Open terraces and a deck floating twelve meters above the water offer superb views of the alpine upland.
