This one is a humdinger! Modern day Baton Rouge-by-way-of New Orleans and Texas-tinged blues from one of the best blues-rocking guitarists I've heard in quite a spell…Novelli's colorful, tangy vocals enhance all the remaining songs… Two thumbs Up!

Guitarist-singer-songwriter Peter Novelli released his debut CD after working much of the past decade with zydeco/cajun bands. Recorded in Baton Rouge/New Orleans (where Novelli and his band live), the CD is getting a lot of radio play, appearing on blues/roots charts and collecting critical acclaim.

Along with the late Gatemouth Brown’s rhythm section, guests include Dr. John, Paul Barrere (Little Feat, Bonnie Raitt), Augie Meyers, Greg “Fingers” Taylor (Jimmy Buffett)and more top players. The historic Slim Harpo tracks feature James Johnson and Rudy Richard from Harpo’s original band, the late Raful Neal, and interviews.

Novelli’s live shows feature his compelling original songs and some roots covers. He weaves soulful guitar-driven blues-roots-rock with his gravelly vocals, New Orleans funk or the relentless groove of zydeco, all soaked in a Louisiana flavor with a dancing beat.

Novelli’s band includes:

Darryl White, drums, from New Orleans. He’s toured/recorded with Tab Benoit, Chris Thomas King, Dr. John, Cyril Neville and many more. He’s a Sabian cymbal artist.

Sandy Maillho is a veteran New Orleans bassist; he’s worked with countless New Orleans blues/R&B artists.

Suzie Leger, a long-time New Orleans entertainer. Her unique style on the frottoir (rubboard) has enabled Suzie to perform with a diversity of bands from zydeco to blues, rock to jazz.

Novelli has played guitar since age 14, first influenced by B.B. King, then Freddie King, James Burton, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Keith Richards, Gatemouth Brown, Albert Collins, Guitar Slim and more.

While working with zydeco bands, his band opened for Buckwheat Zydeco. After many gigs in New Orleans, around Louisiana and the US, Novelli added a zydeco-cajun feel to some of his music, along with New Orleans funk and R&B. Novelli has shared stages and worked with many Louisiana musicians including Roy Carrier, Sammy Naquin, Waylon Thibodeaux, Al Berard. He’s been spotted onstage and jammed with the likes of Cedric Watson, The Pine Leaf Boys, T. Broussard, Steve Riley; also Whoopi, Clapton, David Brown (guitar, Billy Joel), Barrence Whitfield, many New Orleans blues, R&B, funk and jazz icons, and more.

He’s logged studio time with Augie Meyers (Texas Tornados); Nelson Blanchard (LeRoux, Tab Benoit, Steve Cropper); Greg “Fingers” Taylor (Jimmy Buffett), Dr. John, Paul Barrere; David Peters, drums (Gatemouth Brown, LeRoux, Tab Benoit); David Hyde, bass (Gatemouth Brown, Delbert McClinton); Joe Krown, Hammond B3 (Gatemouth Brown); Baton Rouge bluesmen James Johnson and Rudy Richard (Slim Harpo’s band)and many, many more.

Novelli played guitar on Richard Naquin’s CD “Story of My Life” which received six CFMA (Cajun French Music Award) nominations, including Best Band.

Novelli likes to add special guests to his shows, and it’s not uncommon to have a guest vocalist, guitarist, sax, or Louisiana accordionist show up.
