Louisiana Contributions to the American System of Conservation Funding Through ASCF funding the state of Louisiana has built over 483 boat ramps open to the public. Through ASCF funding the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Department (LDWF) manages 3.3 million acres of land. Toledo Bend Reservoir, located on the Louisiana &Texas border, is close to 186,000 acres in size and in 2016 was named the #1 bass fishery in the United States by B.A.S.S. Annually over 18,000 residents graduate form Louisiana’s Hunter Education Course, educating them on wildlife conservation, hunting methods and firearm safety. LDWF’s Marine Fisheries Section has divided Louisiana’s coast into seven study areas, encompassing the state’s 3 million plus acres of coastal wetlands, which account for close to 37% of all coastal wetlands in the lower 48 states. Through the American System of Conservation Funding (comprised of revenue from sporting licenses and Pittman-Robertson and Dingell-Johnson/Wallop-Breaux funds), sportsmen and women contribute billions of dollars to conservation. The System is a “user-pays, public-benefits” model, wherein sportsmen and women provide the vast majority of the funding for state fish and wildlife agencies – the primary stewards of our nation’s fish and wildlife resources. The revenue generated through this System helps to conserve fish and wildlife, provide clean water and healthy landscapes, and maintain access to these resources for the public at large, not just hunters and anglers. 2015 Certified Paid License Holders Fishing: 723,815 Hunting: 370,528 2015 Total Licenses/ Permits/Tags Fishing: 1,079,268 Hunting: 659,165 Pittman- Robertson Fishing Licenses Dingell-Johnson/ Wallop-Breaux Total 2015 Funding 2015 National Rankings Historical Funding Total Historical Funding US Rank $9.83 M 31 $264.15 M 34 $10.41 M $247.54 M 21 28 25 $170.19 M 22 $15.88 M 33 32 $42.81 M 24 $143.27 M 19 $6.69 M Hunting Licenses Louisiana sportsmen and women’s contributions to the American System of Conservation Funding: $ 825.15 M This report is made possible thanks to: sportsmenslink.org/policies/state/ascf
