Loss of Biodiversity By: Younis Al-Sallaj April 29,2012 Loss of
Biodiversity How does loss of Biodiversity affect the
ecosystem?
Slide 2
Biodiversity Biodiversity is the variation within a species in
an ecosystem. Biodiversity has beneficial effects and disastrous
effects. Interactions between organisms may allow the environment
and the organisms to stay healthy. Another beneficial thing about
biodiversity is that if there is a disease or insect that attacks a
certain organism, the other organisms can stay alive.
Slide 3
As you can see in this food web, the variation of species allow
them to stay alive by eating another organism. If one or two
organisms are missing, it could mess up the whole cycle.
Slide 4
As a result of biodiversity, there is a huge animal population.
When the prey population increases, the predator population
increases. This happens, because the predators need the prey for
energy, so when the prey population increases, they take advantage
of it. Then when the prey populations decrease, they will reproduce
and have a better chance of surviving.
Slide 5
The variation in plants provide us with different medicine for
sicknesses.

Slide 7
Medicine There are many different kinds of medicine that keeps
most of the ecosystem healthy. Tylenol and motrin are two different
medicines that are pain relievers.
Slide 8
The Biodiversity(variation) of food, medicine, and species
around us is what keeps us healthy, active, and energized.
Slide 9
There are different kinds of medicine in trees, but if these
trees get destroyed then there will be a loss of Biodiversity, and
will cause more people to be sick
Slide 10
If any animal is removed from this food web, it would destroy
the rest of the food web, and could never recover to its original
state. This is the effect of Loss of Biodiversity.
Slide 11
Conclusion Loss of Biodiversity will cause the whole ecosystem
to collapse. There will be no food and medicine, which will cause
everyone to die because of hunger and sickness. Even losing one
type of species can disrupt the stability of the ecosystem. If this
has a great impact, the ecosystem may never return to its original
state.
