Comprising three office towers that span

almost two million square feet, California

Market Center (CMC) has long served as the

hub for L.A.’s bustling fashion and creative

communities —housing top fashion industry

showrooms, as well as numerous prominent

creative offices and special events venues.

The complex also encompasses a retail

atrium with businesses that cater to the daily

demands of the downtown Los Angeles

(DTLA) community.

Our vision is to revitalize this iconic site,

transforming CMC into a modern, multi-

faceted destination. To complement the

$27 billion area investment since 1999, we

aim to effectively serve the needs of DLTA’s

rapidly-growing population by adding to

the existing 800 restaurants, retailers, and

entertainment options.

Our renovation will include the redevelopment of

1.4 million square feet of Class-A creative office

space, with approximately 400,000 square

feet dedicated to retailers and wholesalers.

This space will include an expansive street-level

area featuring dining, entertainment, nightlife,

and lifestyle establishments, as well as fitness

studios, banks, and other daily service providers.

In keeping with our commitment to developing

sites that reflect the unique character of their

surrounding communities, we will employ design

materials and techniques that align with CMC’s

deep roots in the fashion world, while echoing

the energetic atmosphere of DTLA.

California Market Center, has a proud history in the

global fashion industry. Built in 1962 to house the

first wholesale fashion marketplace west of the

Mississippi, CMC quickly became the primary center

for fashion business in Los Angeles.

At its peak, CMC was home to more than 1,000

active showrooms and hosted 30 events annually,

drawing thousands of prominent fashion industry

businesses and professionals from around the globe.

Today, the three-building CMC complex remains

the hub for L.A.’s world-renowned fashion district,

Over the last decade, downtown L.A. has experienced

a rapid increase in its resident population as a growing

number of young, upwardly mobile professionals has

been drawn to the area’s upscale, energetic atmosphere.

Today, DTLA’s eclectic resident population stands at

65,000. Most residents are affluent professionals with

high levels of education, and many work in the creative,

fashion, arts, or entertainment industries.

DTLA’s housing supply has expanded to meet rising

demand, with the number of residential units surging

more than 200% to 38,000 units during the past ten

years. There are currently over 11,000 new units under

construction, and another 27,000 units planned. Half

of the units under construction are within a 10-minute

walk of CMC, and more than 80% of them are rental

properties. These rentals are aligned with the lifestyle

standards of DTLA professionals, commanding average

monthly fees of $2,800 for a one-bedroom studio

apartment, and $3,600 for a two-bedroom dwelling.
