Internet of Things = Connected Devices
According to Wikipedia:
“The Internet of Things (IoT):
-- the network of physical objects or "things" embedded with electronics, software, sensors,
and connectivity
-- allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely across existing network infrastructure
-- creates opportunities for more direct integration between the physical world and computer-
based systems
-- results in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit
-- each thing is uniquely identifiable through its embedded computing system but able to
interoperate within the existing Internet infrastructure

How Can Project Management Embrace IoT?
• Project Management is a performance–oriented practice aimed at the constitution, coordination and control of activities within a project
• Standard approaches to project management have proven to be less effective to address business needs, particularly in innovative contexts characterized by uncertainty and complexity.
• Project Management leaderships is examining how the field of Design can address limitations with Project Management methodologies
• Studies reveal that Design Thinking process makes important contributions to projects with high uncertainty, and unknown customer requirements.
• “IoT Success requires New Design Thinking”
Include Design Thinking tools early in the development process.
• Exploration and Design Thinking at the outset, rather than an add-on
• Including the entire stakeholder ecosystem
• Strategize Innovative directions, define the problem to be solved
• Human centered Design (as important as new technology)
• Creating minimal viable product – physical and digital
• User testing and iterate
APPROACH /PROCESS
What is Design Thinking?
• “Design thinking” is a structured process of exploration for ill-defined problems.
• “Design thinking” tools provide project management with new perspectives for addressing innovation and complexity challenges
• “Design thinking” is “a human-centered innovation process that emphasizes observation, collaboration, fast learning, visualization of ideas, rapid concept prototyping, and concurrent business analysis.”
• “Design thinking” moves design upstream in the innovation process and involves players other than designers, such as users and other stakeholders. It aims to go beyond the design of artifacts and to contribute to the organization's strategy. It is, therefore, of interest to all managers.

The Zen Project Manager in 2020
“For a project manager . . . the impact of the IoT is similar to the advent of the
touch screen.”
—Pete St. Pierre, president of IoT industry group IPSO Alliance and IoT
product manager at Oracle
How do I adapt my PM Role to IoT…???
The pivot point – will you recognize it…?
Want your career to grow with IoT… ?
According to Tim Clark from LiquidPlanner –
1. Understand the big picture 6. Pick your project team
2. Pick a strong technical lead 7. Pick your project infrastructure
3. Phase the project 8. Maximize sharing
4. Test Often 9. Build team competencies
5. Understand IoT reference architecture 10. Learn about fog computing
11. Get ready to deal with your team’s frustration
