חקת/בלק

A few years ago, during the week of פרשת חקת

I was preparing some of my children to go away to camp. I found myself at Costco purchasing 5 cases of water bottles. At the register I noticed that I was only charged for 3 of the cases instead of 5. Figuring this was a classic case of טעות עכו"ם

I didn’t say anything and left the store. I gave up an opportunity to make a 'קידוש ה to save myself $14.50.

After returning to my car and loading the water, the car didn’t start. My car needed a tow and significant repairs. The total cost was a whopping $1,450.00! Exactly 100 times the cost of the water! Needless to say I went back the next day and paid for the water, creating a huge

to those in the store that couldn’t believe קידוש ה'that I would come back to pay for their mistake when I could have easily gotten away with it.

Learning the פרשה that week, I understood. When discussing how Moshe hit the rock instead of speaking to it to get water for the בני ישראל, the יען לא האמנתם בי להקדישני לעיני בני ישראל ,says פסוק

Because you did not believe in me to make a .בני ישראל with the water in the eyes of the קידוש ה'The פסוק continues, לכן, therefore... and goes on to say the punishment. The בעל הטורים points out that לכן has the same גמטריא as מדה במדה measure for measure and yes the גמטריא of לכן is also 100. Clearly the reward and consequence for .מדה כנגד מדה is indeed קידוש ה'

MESSAGE FROM OUR LEARNING DIRECTOR, RABBI ROSENBERG:What an amazing start to the season! Thank you Hashem for allowing us to be together again

at SDC 2020! It was truly a ‘קידוש ה this week to walk through the hallways and hear the beauti-ful sounds of davening and learning coming from the classrooms again. It is a credit to you, the most amazing campers around and your incredible Rabbeim who are working so hard to give you your greatest summer yet. We look forward to a great summer here at Simcha Day Camp with learning, fun, and lots of prizes.

Our main goal this summer at Simcha Day Camp is to be מקדש שם שמים in whatever we are doing. Both in the classrooms and out, on the courts and fields, during trips, and at the pool. Davening nicely, learning well and always acting with good middos are what make up a Simcha Day Camp camper and we should always be a source of ‘קידוש ה.

A new season of fun in the sun at Simcha is always a cause for great Simcha! This year more than ever, the Simcha at Simcha can be felt by everyone. Nay nay nay nay nay Thank you Hashem! for allowing us to open and for giving us the opportunity to bring Simcha to so many children. We have put many protocols and guidelines into place to keep our precious campers safe, and still the Simcha in the air is even more charged than last summer!

Each bunk was given a supply of masks to be worn when our groups cannot social distance and huge 2 liter bottles of hand sanitizer were given out to each bunk! Each Bunk was divided into 2 separate groups which are led by our amazing, handpicked staff. Thank you Rabbi Polter and Rabbi Rosenblatt for meeting each staff member to make sure that Simcha has the best staff ever! This year we have added a few new awesome members to our already amazing head staff! Rabbi Sokol (so cool) returns with all of his sweetness and energy used to lead the 10’s. Rabbi Hildeshaim (rocks every rhyme) will once again be chanting on top of the 20’s. Rabbi Donny Rudansky (Mr. Leagues) will continue bringing it with his fun and exciting ideas in the 30's. Our two newest head staff members are Rabbi Goldstein and Rabbi Samet who bring over 30 years of combined experience to their posts. They will be leading the Senior Division (40s-70s) with the help of Davi Levene, Yehuda Shapiro and Yanky Koenig. The CIT program has exploded in size and Rabbi Meyer will once again use his considerable talents to guide our oldest campers (or our future staff members). He will be aided by Rabbi Leighton, a veteran mechanech and gym teacher in Yeshiva Darchei Torah. Rabbis Polter and Rosenblatt return to their head counselor positions, ensuring every camper feels at home here at SDC.

Simcha is bigger and better than ever and we have even added 3 new fields to our 9 acre campus. We are looking forward to adding a new exciting activity on campus! Stay tuned for more details! While there are new challenges this year, and everyone is ready to leave their virtual classrooms and couches, Simcha will not be stopped from having the best summer ever. Seeing campers running the bases, swimming laps, shooting hoops, and cheering in the dining room is a sight to behold! A huge shout out to you, the parents for the wonderful start to carpool. Your patience and understanding is legendary.

Even though it is only week one, we have already seen so many special activities! From Bean hunts, to game shows, and special bunk challenges in between, our day cannot get much better. Many bunks even hit the mark with an exciting new activity, Simcha archery lessons! Next week will be pumping with Simcha, including CARNIVAL!!! No one throws a carnival quite like Simcha. There are other surprises in store as well, but one thing is definitely not a secret… the Simcha at Simcha will be off the charts. Ooooohehoh Oh Pumping SDC…. Ooooohehoh SDC the place to be!!!!!
