How- ever, the snow and mild tempera- tures have provided for some great snowshoeing and cross country ski- ing. We have been enjoying the snowshoeing this winter on our many woodland trails and hosted a candlelight snowshoe one week-end. Mort set out 100 sacks with lighted votives in them to mark the trail. About 15 of us enjoyed the night snowshoe, followed by hot choco- late and treats provided by those that attended. You snow birds are miss- ing out on some great fun. Our spring meeting guest speaker will be Mr. Michael MacDonald, the DNR hydrologist for this region. He will discuss the 5 wells, drilled in 2002, that are located around Long Lost Lake. Terms will expire for three of the as- sociation officers, Becky Bergerson, Secretary, Shirley Schouviller, Treas- urer and President. We have all com- pleted 2 terms in office. We will be accepting nominations for those three positions. If you have never held an office or haven’t held one recently, please consider volunteering or do accept the nomination if you are asked. Just remember when asked, you are not saying “I Do”, which could last for a lifetime, but “I Will” which is for 2 years. The jobs are not difficult and you do not have to live here full time to serve. In fact a major- ity of past officers served even though they were summer residents or week-enders. Spring is coming! Spring is coming! And

with spring comes the cleaning up of our

yards, leaves, branches and other debris.

In the spring it is common to have fire re-

strictions a few days after the snow melts.

Please, be careful when burning, keep

your fires small, compost your leaves and

dried grasses rather than burn them and

ALWAYS check for burning restrictions.

When can I burn? What can’t I burn? Do I

need a burning permit? Where do I get a

burning permit? Are there burning restric-

tions on at this time? You can find the an-

swers to these and other questions at the

MN DNR web site:

http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/forestry/fire/

questions.html

If a burning permit is needed, you can ob-tain one from Ardell Johnson. His phone number is 657-2606 and his address is 12875 Seaburg Lane.

Jim Svobodny’s mother passed away

in early January. Jim and Lyn traveled to

Florida this spring and had an opportu-

nity to visit with both the Kuphals and

the Gugisbergs at their Florida digs.

Jim reports that the tribe said they

were going to try to begin clearing build-ings off the penninsula this winter but so far there has been no ac-tivity.

Peter Hovde fell going downstairs and had to have rotor cuff

surgery on his shoulder and Larry Alderink fell while walking his

dog, shattering his femur.

Both Larry and Peter are on the mend, but both have a lot of

physical therapy in their near futures!

Greg Thieschafer retired and moved on the lake permanently.

Mort and Babe Mortenson were gone for a month traveling to

Florida . The annual Christmas Tea was held at the Jennings on the 9th of December 2012. Becky Bergerson, Linda Ditterick, Kathy Toomey, Nancy Johnson, Ruth Johnson and Donna Houglum attended. Christmas goodies were served and gifts were ex-changed. Fun was had by all.

Township News

On March 12 the Annual Township Citizen’s meeting was

held at the home of Dave and Nancy Johnson. A detailed

report of the township’s 2012 revenue and expenses was

given to each citizen and reviewed by the clerk.

Road Supervisor, Ardell Johnson reported on work that

has been completed on the township roads and road

needs in the future.

Supervisor, Greg Scherzer reported on concerns with nox-

ious weeds in the township. Supervisor Scherzer filed

three (3) formal complaints in 2012 to Clearwater County.

Two of these complaints were for Thistle infestation and

one for Leafy Spurge.

It was noted that the mail ballot election in November of

2012 was well received. The county was pleased, it was a

considerable savings to the township and the citizens

enjoyed the convenience.

Treasurer, Dick Toomey reviewed the township budget

for 2014 as established by the town board of supervi-

sors. He further explained that based on this budget

the township board would recommend that the citizens

adopt a road and bridge levy for 2014 in the amount of

$4,000.00. After some discussion the citizens approved

the levy for 2014 at $4,000.00. (Note: The levy for the

years, 2011, 2012 & 2013 has been $7,000.00 per year.)

LAKE DATA - Winter 2012/2013

This has been the winter of snow.

To date there has been 87.5 inches of snow.

Does this mean the lake level will go up. (Probably - time will tell.)

The lake iced over on or about 12/4/12.

One of the coldest days -30 degrees was recorded on the night of 1/31/13 or

morning of 2/1/13. That is cold!!!

The spring thaw has started. The lake still has ice, but there is open water

around the edges.

Swans have been spotted and a blue heron has been seen on nearby roads.

Drive safely as the roads can become very greasy.
