GIFTS In today’s readings, we discover that material wealth alone does not keep us from discipleship. We will see that there are other

gifts more important than material wealth, but even so, it is how we use our gifts that matters

most. Today’s scriptures point to the value of the gifts of wisdom, trusting in God, and letting our actions reflect the love of God from within. It is not gold that causes us to fall, but rather the desire for gold above all other things. From the readings in Wisdom and Hebrews, we find the source of God’s gifts in our lives. Wisdom is

more valuable than worldly possessions. In He-brews, we are challenged to look at our own values and admit honestly what controls our

lives.

DONES

STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE | ADMINISTRACION DEL TESORO

As good stewards of God’s money, and in appreciation of the Lord’s many gifts to us, we have gratefully given to our church-

Agnus Dei After the sign of peace, the priest breaks

the host into pieces, and prepares the patens or plates of hosts for the assembly. In the early

church, “the breaking of the bread” was the name given to the entire Eucharistic liturgy, so central was this action to the meaning of the Christian

life. For just as the one bread is broken and given to many people, the many are made one in receiv-

ing it. During this ritual action, we sing an an-

cient litany, calling on Jesus as the “Lamb of God”—the words used by John the Baptist when

he pointed to Jesus walking beside the Jordan Riv-er (John 1:29, 36). In calling Jesus “the Lamb of God,” John was already pointing to the death that Jesus would die: in giving his life, Jesus would become the Paschal Lamb of the new covenant. During the Mass, when we call on the Lamb of

God, we call to mind his self-sacrificing love, his blood poured out for us, and we ask this compas-

sionate Lord for mercy and peace.

Vincentians partner with United Way to Feed the Hungry

Last month our St. Vincent de Paul Conference partnered with United Way of Hall County to serve the homeless at Good News at Noon Shelter on Da-

vis Street.

The men arrived early to clean out the warehouse and by late afternoon had hauled three truckloads and trailers to the landfill.

The women prepared 13 crockpots of chili, 4 large trays of salad plus home-made French bread, cornbread and blueberry cobbler. With help from

United Way volunteers, they served it, restaurant style to over 80 persons … and there was enough left over for supper!

The Good News at Noon Shelter can house 20 men. They open their dining hall at noon and in the evening to anyone hungry for a good home cooked

meal. They also help the homeless find work and minister to those sleeping in the woods and under bridges with food and clothing. Good News is 35

years old and is expanding to a new site on Dorsey & Pearl Nix Hwy. There, they will be able to feed 150 people twice a day and house 40 men. It will also include a women’s shelter of 20 beds. Currently there are no shelter

facilities in Gainesville for single women.

Our community is so blessed to have organizations and churches that work together to help those in need.

SAINT MICHAEL NEWS | NOTICIAS St. Michael’s Generosity is Saving Ba-

bies Lives!!!

The Knights of Columbus of St. Michael and of St. Paul in Cleveland, GA want to thank the parishioners of St. Michael for being so generous in donating to help the Cleveland Care Center purchase the new ultrasound machine so mothers and fa-thers can see their blessed child in the

mother’s womb for the first time!

90% of women who see their child for the first time thru seeing the ultrasound image

make the decision to give birth to their child and not abort them. Your generosity

a few weeks ago will allow many children to come into this world and be children of

God.

The St. Michael Knights of Columbus is searching for another clinic in the North

Georgia area that may be in need of a new ultrasound machine, so we can save more children. May God bless you for your gen-

erosity.

Coats for Kids

The Knights of Columbus is starting to collect gently used or brand new

coats for kids of all sizes.

All donations can be brought to the main office.

Coats will be distributed to needy families from Saint Michael parish

throughout December.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS | CABALLEROS DE COLON
