Lodi gardens is a park in Delhi, India. It spread over 90 acres (360,000 m2).

The gardens are situated between Khan Market and Safdarjung's Tomb on

Lodhi Road and is a hotspot for morning walks for the Delhiites.

Mughuls built tombs within gardens constructed in the image of paradise.

During their owners' lives these gardens were used as pleasure grounds, then after death they became entrances to paradise.

By this device the realms of heaven and earth were connected.

After independence, the garden has been laid on the principles of the English landscape where the old buildings were used as eye

    catchers.

Relate to paradise concept The Koran promises that the faithful shall dwell in a cool, fruitful paradise and

gives details of the attractions that await them there. Sura 76 specifies that they shall recline upon couchesand shall see neither sun nor bitter cold. Sura 47 describes rivers of water unstalling plus rivers of wine, of

milk, and of honey. Sura 55 tells of gardens, green pastures, palm trees, and pomergrates, and of houris,

    cloistered in cool paviliion.

In this dynasty, the tombs were built along the tributaries of Yamuna.

Tombs were built outside the city by rulers in anticipation of their death. These

    were enclosed in the garden.

Tombs were situated near a tributary of the Yamuna. During Lodi times, this

tributary was formed an integral part of the landscape.

    STAGE 3 : MUGHAL PERIOD

Athpula bridge have been built during Akbars regin to span a tributary of the

    Yamuna.

Late Mughal gateway leads to an enclosed garden. Late Mughal mosque has a

    courtyard on its eastern side.

    STAGE 3 : BRITISH RULER

In 1936, the garden was laid out with native and exotic trees and plants around themonuments. It was at first called Lady Willingdon Park.

    STAGE 4: AFTER INDEPENDENCE

In 1968, it was re-landscaped by J.A Stein and named it as Lodi garden.

Joseph Allen Stein added a small glass house in one corner of the garden .
