Overview of Solar Energy

Solar is:• Any conversion of the Sun’s light or radiant energy to usable electric or heat energy– Conversion of the Sun’s light energy to electrical energy by means of a photovoltaic (PV) solar cell (several create a panel) which can be on or off‐grid.

– Conversion of the Sun’s radiant energy to heat energy by means of a crystalize coated or dark  coated (i.e. black paint, piping, screening) panel

What is the Market Today in North Georgia?

• Residential – Incentives from government (running out)– Housing market is still declining (Not many investing)– GA Power and EMCs pay at or above retail (PV)– Thermal is best for large families (4 or more in the house)

– Thermal is probably best payback at 4‐7 years– Over flow to pools– Aesthetics improvements on cells (looks similar to sky lights)

– Absorption/Adsorption Air Conditioning coming?

• GEFA Grant for Lanier Technical College– 52 KWp of PV across 3 campuses– 30 panels of thermal across 4 campus– 6 KWp of PV for training across 2 campuses– 6 thermal panels for training across 3 campuses

• Will benefit the community at large by providing visible leadership for renewable energy technologies and training while simultaneously saving the state of Georgia more than $2 million over 30 years.

• KOS wire solar farm– 528 Schüco MFE 185 MS 06 Solar modules linked into 48 strings by 11 modules to 12 SunnyBoy8000W Inverters 

– Total come out to be 97.68 kW DC STC Rated Solar Photovoltaic System 

– The project will take place approximately in the middle of October and will finish early November 

– the return on investment will be paid back to the company in a short year
