The Service-Learning

Experience at PCLP

It takes integrated,

collaborative care to serve

the community. Through

PCLP, I gained experience

that I would not otherwise

have received in academics.

In 2017, twelve PCLP

Scholars were placed

with AltaMed Health

Services Corporation in Los Angeles CA. In addition to

being the largest Federally Qualified Health Center

(FQHC) in the country, AltaMed has been a PCLP Site

Partner since 2012. PCLP Scholars have spent time

with AltaMed patients studying chronic disease

management, access to care, and more.

This program has further

strengthened my desire to

be a leader in the realm of

primary care, with an

emphasis on taking care of

those who are the most

vulnerable.

Since 2012, our Scholars have

performed over 74,800 hours of

service in CHCs

As part of our initiative to

serve the Gateway Cities

outside of Boston MA,

Lynn Community Health

Center in Lynn MA

helped four 2017 PCLP Scholars better understand

behavioral health integration, and how primary care

leadership can help stem substance use disorders.

From 2012-2017, PCLP partnered

with FQHCs across 13 U.S. states

Scholar schedules include leadership training, clinical

experience, and service-learning projects.

In their experience with PCLP, our Scholars

study leadership through exposure to

practice management. They improve

clinical skill through care delivery. They

take part in capacity building at CHCs

through site-directed projects that span a

range of topics and issues in primary care.
