System Overview

The Data Translator Utility allows .LMI, .TXT, and .CSV Data Export files to be translated into supported .C3DF files which can be uploaded into the CMDANA database via the Covisint website. The Data Translator Utility will search for all .LMI/.TXT/.CSV files that have the correct naming convention (FileNameMMDDYYHH:mm:ss) associated with them.

All .LMI/.TXT/.CSV files will need an associated XYZ Definition file (FileName.xml) in order for a valid translation to occur. If there is not an XYZ Definition file associated with the .LMI/.TXT/.CSV Data Export file, the file will not be translated and will remain red. Once an associated XYZ Definition file is created the .LMI/.TXT/.CSV file will turn green and the user will be able to translate the files to the correct .C3DF format.

The LMI Data Translator Utility is designed to simplify the process of translating data files into readable .C3DF file formats accepted by the Covisint Web Portal. Once a file is translated correctly it will be placed in a defined C3DF file folder and a backup copy of the .LMI/.TXT/.CSV Data Export file will be moved to a defined “safe location.” The translated file will no longer appear on the View Window once the translation is complete.

Currently only the .LMI, .TXT, and .CSV Data Export format is supported in the DTU Data Translator Utility. The .LMI Data Export format can be obtained by contacting LMI Corporation for further details.

Page 17: LMI Data Transfer Utility Manual

Of note, when .CSV headers are set up, all header information needs to be configured as only coming over on the initial data export and will not be setup to come over on appended data exports. Therefore the software that is collecting the data will need to be setup accordingly to only export Header information on the first subgroup of the data export.

Transend I I Export Setup Example

Page 18: LMI Data Transfer Utility Manual

Selecting a .LMI/.TXT/.CSV File for Editing (Step 1) To select a Data Export file for transfer and definition upload, select a single file by double clicking the file path \ file name link listed in the display program window. A check mark will appear in the left side checkbox for the selected file.

Select the Edit File Transfer button. Only one file can be edited at a time. Once the file has been successfully transferred it will turn the file path \ file name link green and will be ready for C3DF translation.

Page 19: LMI Data Transfer Utility Manual

Defining XYZ values in the .LMI/.TXT/.CSV File for Transfer (Step 2) The header definitions are either alphanumeric or just numeric in nature and have a specific and case sensitive format. They are utilized to define characteristics that will be associated with the measurement results. These characteristics are used to define/identify the CMM measurement data being inserted into the centralized database via this file format.

This header information comes directly from the Data Export file (.LMI/.TXT/.CSV). The .LMI/.TXT/CSV Data Export file must meet all required header information formats in order to save the XYZ Definition file. If any fields are not within the outlined format, an error message will appear and the user will need to fix the error before the XYZ Definition file can be associated and the transfer file can be saved.

The body of the Data Export file is made up of the following features. These features need to match the rules below for each column for the point names to be properly displayed.

Page 20: LMI Data Transfer Utility Manual

Feature Name - The Feature Name field is an uppercase alphanumeric left-

justified field of 10 characters and must always start with a letter (A-Z). Feature Type - The Feature Type field is a character field not to exceed 5

characters that represents the type of inspection algorithm used to measure the feature.

Feature Comment - The Feature Comment field is an optional field that allows a

textual description to be associated with the feature being reported. It can contain any valid alphanumeric character including spaces up to a maximum length of 59 alphanumeric characters.

D - The “ACTUAL” measured data from the Feature Point of the

.LMI/.TXT/.CSV Data Export file. Nominal - The defined nominal data from the Feature Point of the

.LMI/.TXT/.CSV Data Export file. X/Y/Z - The copied XYZ coordinates from an outside file (excel) must be added

into the part file in order to be saved. To add any line item into the grid: use Ctrl+C to copy from the excel file and use Ctrl+V to paste it into the grid.

USL/LSL - The defined USL/LSL data from the Feature Point of the .LMI Export

Data file. Lower Limit <= (Measured - Nominal) <= Upper Limit except when the Y nominal is < 0.0 the following is utilized: Lower Limit <= (Nominal - Measured) <= Upper Limit.

Include Feature Point - If a Feature Point needs to be excluded, remove the check mark from the box. When you translate the .LMI/.TXT/.CSV Data Export files to the .C3DF format, the Feature Point will not be included.

These features will define the point being displayed. If a Feature Name is not displayed in the body, the transfer skipped or omitted that point in the file transfer because it did not match the Feature Name rule. If a point is displayed which is either incorrect or not valid uncheck the include Feature Point checkbox on the right had side and save the file. The transfer file will only define the points and feature names that are valid.

Once the Files has been updated, save the changes.

Page 21: LMI Data Transfer Utility Manual

Editing an Existing .LMI/.TXT/.CSV Part File Any transferred (green colored file name) can be updated by double clicking the File Path \ File Name and selecting the Transfer button. The file can be updated for the following changes only. Header File changes Feature Point included/not included Feature Point USL/LSL XYZ values

No additional Feature Points can be added or deleted, only omitted by un-checking the Include Feature Point checkbox.

Translating the .LMI/.TXT/.CSV Export File to the .C3DF Format (Step 3) To select a data export file for .C3DF translation (Green Partfile links ONLY), users can select a single file or multiple files by double clicking the file path \ file name link in the display window. A check mark will appear in the left side checkbox for the selected file.

Page 22: LMI Data Transfer Utility Manual

To complete the translation of the file into the .C3DF format, the Translate button must be selected.

A confirmation message will appear on the screen confirming the file has been translated to the .C3DF format and placed in the default .C3DF folder. Once a file has been translated the file will be removed from the active display window of the program and the default file folder and placed in a backup folder defined in the master file. This function will serve as a file archive for later use.

Page 23: LMI Data Transfer Utility Manual

The translated .C3DF file will be placed in the master file defined folder. The child folders will be structured with a Date format and each daily upload will have its own unique folder. The file folder date format will be in MM/DD/YYYY and ready for upload to the Covisint website.

Uploading .C3DF Files to Covisint Application Portal (Step 4) To upload all translated .C3DF Files to the CMDANA Database select the Covisint Upload menu option at the top of the menu bar, or navigate using your web browser to www.covisint.com. The User Interface The DTU (Data Translator Utility) is extremely simple to use. All valid .LMI/.TXT Data Export files will be listed in the color green. This color association means that the listed .LMI Data Export file has an associated XYZ Definition file. If the .LMI Data Export file is red, there is no associated XYZ Definition file and the file will not be able to be translated. If an associated XYZ Definition file needs updating simply click on the single file and select the Edit File Transfer button. Only one file at a time can be updated and each time a file is updated the latest XYZ Definition file is overwritten in the file folder directory.

Input File Formats Only the valid .LMI/.TXT/.CSV Data Export files will be located in the default file directory. If there are no files listed in the View Window, either no files were saved with the .LMI /.TXT/.CSV export extension or the default file directory is pointing to the wrong location.

Selecting Single Files to Translate To select a single file to transfer double-click on the desired filename. A checkmark will be checked in the checkbox to the left of the file name, then select the Translate button. The file name must be listed in green to be an accepted file to be translated. A confirmation message will appear listing that the selected file was translated successfully.

Selecting Multiple Files to Translate To select multiple green listed files to translate, select the individual files. A checkmark will appear beside all valid (green) files ready to be translated. Select the Translate button. A confirmation message will appear listing all selected files that were translated successfully.

Selecting All Files to Translate To select all green listed files to be translated, select the Select All Files button. A checkmark will appear beside all valid (green) files ready to be translated. A confirmation message will appear listing all selected files that were translated successfully.

Output File Formats All valid output file formats will be listed as .C3DF extension. Once a C3DF file is successfully written it will remove the .LMI /.TXT/.CSV file from the View Window.
