MINISTRY DISPLAYS AND PASTA BAR LUNCH.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to

serve others - 1 Peter 4:10a

This will be an opportunity to renew your dedication to your current ministries and find out more about the other

Dearly beloved of Christ Jesus,

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I have some in-house items to share today. First of all (and I am sure Sean will be writing about it), Sean's

life changed over the weekend. In Orlando, Fl. this past Saturday, Sean was ordained a Deacon in the One, Holy,

Catholic and Apostolic Church; that is in the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion. Unfortunately, my

flight was cancelled so I was not able to represent you all at the service. Having said that, a number of us joined

Amber and Owen in their home to watch and celebrate this great event. So now he is "The Reverend" Sean

Duncan or Deacon Duncan. (Say that fast five times.) When he is ordained priest he will then be called "father".

We look forward to supporting him in this time of diaconal ministry.

This brings me to a second item. The Fuller Center for Housing is raising moneys by having people "Go

Over the Edge". Deacon Duncan has volunteered to go over the edge. What this means is if we raise $1,000, Sean

has volunteered to repel down one the bank buildings downtown. There will be professionals there to make

sure he is belayed properly and give him coaching on how to do it, though he has done it before apparently. We

need contributors to this worthy project, then we can watch him "Go over the Edge". Send donations to St.

Paul's marked "Over the Edge". I'm in for a hundred.

Thirdly, We have been asked to co host an important national event October 27-28 here at St. Paul's. The

Haiti Education Foundation has asked us to host their national united gathering. This will bring people from all

over the country to Shreveport and to St. Paul's. Fr. Fred, his wife and one of their children will be here. Two

other Haitians from Cherident will be here as well. Representatives from Living Waters for the World, Solar

Under the Sun, Haiti Healthcare partners, and Trinity Hope Feeding Program will also be here. What I am trying

to relate is that this will be a major event. My hope is that many of you will sign up to join in this conference,

even if you have no plans to travel to Haiti, it will be important that you know what is happening there and to

learn about these agencies and their work around the world. Please see Mackey and Mickey Quinlan (or myself)

if you are interested. (Cost is only $20.)

Fourth, September 24th will be our annual Ministry Fair. It is the goal of St. Paul's that everyone has a

ministry to do. We want you to be involved in at least one group here. We are at our best when we are busy

doing what God wants us to do. Therefore, in that Sunday, please go around to the booths, ask questions; sign

up for ministries you are already involved in and think about others you may want to join.

Just a thought.

Your Brother In Christ,

Paul

OVER THE EDGE

Fuller Center for Housing of NWLA will reach new heights with your support

providing affordable housing for veterans and low-income working families.

Proceeds of this event will be used to support their mission of building homes,

building lives and changing communities. On October 7, watch Sean rappel from

the roof of the Beck Building.

The first 100 individuals to raise a minimum of $1,000 will earn a spot to go Over

The Edge and Take a Leap of Faith for Housing. Deacon Duncan has committed to

go OVER THE EDGE if we raise $1000 for this great cause.

Since 2005, more than 3,600 volunteers have helped to build 56 homes for veterans and

low-income working families.

PARISH LIFE

Young Voices is a wonderful choir program for Kindergarten through Middle school. The participants in this ministry will learn to develop their singing voices, learn to work as a team and experience the love of God through music.

Young Voices is on Wednesday evening at 5:30 in the Choir room. You are welcome to just show up, but should you have questions please feel free to please contact Louise Smith at 318-865-7972 or [email protected]

Kings club children's ministry serves parish children from Kindergarten through

fifth grade by providing a safe, loving environment to nurture their spiritual

growth and their knowledge and understanding of our faith. Each week the

children spend time learning about the bible, watching a video, singing a song,

and participating in a craft all surrounding the Good News of the Gospel.

In the Last Epistle Susan Sherwin was able to share a little bit about the trip the

acolytes went on. Now let’s take a look at what some of the acolytes had to say.

“This trip was an amazing experience. I loved visiting in churches and castles.

Also, I liked getting to know the other acolytes. I want to thank the people who

donated. I am so glad I was able to do this and I would love to do it again.” -

Michael Miller

“My favorite part of the trip was seeing

all the churches. I really enjoyed seeing

where the roots of our religion came

from. I also really enjoyed spending

time with the other acolytes. I got to

know my church family better and have

created a bond that will last a lifetime.”

- Marshall Miller
