… to Live At LICA’s spring 2015 season. Firstly I would like to takethis opportunity to thank you for your support during our autumn2014 season.

I was pleased to see that many of our events encouraged you tostart conversations with the artists and us during post-showdiscussions, with fellow audience members at events and withthe wider world on social media.

I look forward to continuing those stimulating conversations withthose of you I met last season, and to welcome new voices withevery project.

My colleagues and I are very keen that the world-classprogramme of work we promote responds to the bustlingdiversity of our audiences, on the campus, in the city and beyond. This season’s programme features critically acclaimed pieces suchas the brilliant I Wish I Was Lonely presented alongside exclusivepreview performances by companies such as Clod Ensemble andThird Angel.

It is a great privilege for me to be sharing this programme withyou, I will be waiting, excitedly, for your responses to the pieceswe have carefully selected for you this season.

CONCERTS

Hunker Down sees Berlin based artist PaulMcDevitt utilise the Peter Scott Gallery as aprovisional one-man publishing house.Initially conceived as a response to LancasterUniversity’s absence of an academicpublishing house, Hunker Down is theumbrella under which a variety of printedmatter is being realised in response todifferent aspects of the university campusand Lancaster itself. The whole project is anenquiry into aspects of DIY publishing, issues of self-reliance, communication, andimprovisation. Several of the projectsexpand on McDevitt’s long establishedinterests in collaboration by involving otherartists, musicians and academics.

The whole project, which will consist ofseveral hundred new images, in book form, posters, or limited edition screen prints, consists entirely of new work. Exhibitedworks range in scale from postcards to afull-sized billboard print vertically spanningthe height of the gallery. Hunker Down looksat different issues concerning undergroundpublishing and art production in general, from questions of originality andauthenticity, facsimile and mass production, fidelity and surface noise. The presentationof work in Hunker Down attempts to reflectthe energy and sense of dialogue inherentwithin the individual projects.
