From A…

The Little Fashion Book is officially The “Magazine de Little Fashion Gallery”. Taking its role as style trend journal seriously, we have let it assume a more imposing format – A4.This new freedom allows us to give real room for our images. We also assume greater variety, diversity and a broader choice of products. Our strength is our content – rich and precise content fed by talent, research and desires. Little Fashion Gallery has been international from day one; its magazine is as well through its contributors and risk taking. We believe that you, our readers, have this risk-taking taste in common and that you like mixing and matching different styles : sharp, minimalist, artsy, extravagant, intellectual, bohemian chic, natural… ! The Little Fashion Book is in your image.Bigger, bolder and more accomplished, The Little Fashion Book Volume 6 takes you from A to O.

Marie Soudré Richard, fondatrice.

Exhibited in the Palais de Tokyo, the art works show Superman, Batman, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman: it’s a big hit. The idea of using the exclusive images on clothes has quickly become patently obvious to Myface; a capsule collection of adult T-shirts is now sold in 60 high-end locations – Harvey Nichols in London, Le Palais de Tokyo in Paris. PreVieWS

With a father who was a member of the Beatles and a mother who was a photographer, Stella McCartney was definitely born under an artistic star. She is an incredibly talented designer and after becoming creative director at Chloé, she launched her own brand in 2001. Her collections explore all facets of femininity: relaxed appeal, humour and sensuality. The brand has built up a number of partnerships, in particular with Adidas and H & M in 2005, and as the designer wanted to innovate and develop the brand further, she has now launched a children’s collection. The Stella McCartney Kids collection reflects all the elements that have made her main line so successful. The majority of the Kids collection is made from organic cotton and comprises comfortable basics with exquisite finishing touches. And there’s always humour; Stella McCartney Kids is an adventure like Max and the Maximonsters, the designer’s favourite children’s book, where a joker fox meets a sheriff in uniform and where each garment carries the first name of a child. Stella McCartney Kids, Autumn/Winter 2010 collection. Stella McCartney women’s catwalk show Summer 2011. Photo of designer: Mary McCartney.

Madame A envies nothing about her bookish companion, apart from the fact that his cane is round the wrong way. Our vowel heroine contradicts Rimbaud as she sees red, a feminine red, persistent, stubborn and hypnotising. The red of her dresses; fi lled with stripes that are gradually magnetised to one another, the red of a beach towel fl ung over a deckchair by the Malaparte villa.Madame A is called Marianne, she is the Alpha to his Omega. She is passion, sun, light. This season we love red and we keep seeing As. Amusements and accessories, accessories and amusements, Geneviève would be a Marianne, a tier of buns up higher, a dog wallet no less. From 1960s tapestries to Italian landscapes, Madame A lets herself be swept away by Summer. She loves to wander aimlessly in the Antonioni desert. Feet in water, shouting about her boredom. This is not poetry - for Alpha-60 forbids it. She fi nds her O, and we, well we are looking for the As. Open your eyes, they are everywhere; hidden in the back-alleys of Alphaville, the town of that very letter.

“It is 12:17 GMT”: you have arrived.

“Why do you seem sad?” asked Pierrot. “Because you speak to me using words, whilst I look at you with feeling.” answered Marianne. Between the feminine A and the masculine O, between the red Alpha and the blue Omega, there is a lack of comprehension. They speak to one another, but there is always a noise which masks the words, spreading the confusion. Unless it is the waves crashing against the rocks which swallows up their words?French New Wave cinema fl ed the studios, our new wave is lapping against the feet of an enormous fi lm projector, which for us incarnates the sun. A sun, reminiscent of that of Capri, which warms our faces, makes the sea sparkle and emphasises the horizon. An image within an image, placing into infi nity, contemporary and cult-like. “What do you think about it, Fritz?” The light is exploding, and the bird’s eye view, uninterrupted. “A tragic love story, with breathtaking scenery.” exclaim Paul and Camille in unison. The fi nal tracking shot is fi xed upon the sea; immense and silent.

“Silence!”, I write. Silence, we are fi lming. SILENZIO!

The stripe craves a chic Parisian life – how superficial she is! She commands a suffix –“Mondrian Stripe?”, she suggests. Navy blue is finished, today she sees only red. Very fine or widely spaced out, she is not regular, she has a strong character. The stripe writes, dividing into squares, present in a million different ways. She’s alive.

The seaweed is caught up around dresses just like sea urchins. Threadlike prints, pretty pleats, against coral coloured fabrics. Trouser legs are transformed into the tails of mermaids, the peppermint green is as porous as a sea sponge. Careful! A group of moray eels! In the depths, all becomes clear: the fish are a powdered pink colour, the pearls of oysters have little hooks. A crab, without drawing breath, glides between the orange tulle cavities, he is like the anemone. Cut! It’s in the box!

The thriller is no longer black: he pulls away from greyish blue. Dark nights, midnight blue – it is deadly quiet in the streets of Paris. The spies are out. Wrapped up in beige raincoats, wearing bowler hats and bow-ties. Tonight a brilliant plan will be hatched. In the entrance hall of the Grand Hôtel, lace is looking beautiful, the black caviar savours a smokey grey canapé. Dresses are smart, the collars are crocheted. Each spy flits seamlessly from one conversation to another.

The operations chief shouts himself hoarse from the other side of the set. The hairstyle of this asymmetrical stripe is completely dishevelled! Under the heat of the projectors, a pop art print gives the figurative themes their lines. From the hands of the monsters to Rapunzel’s plaits, the dialogues go in every direction. The decor is made up of coloured bricks: in pink, yellow or purplish blue. The star makes her entrance, it is a caramel trench – incredibly distinguished! The groupies are wearing vichy.

Effervescent, unexpected, Monsieur O is the Omega electron who runs, and never becomes breathless, he shouts about his freedom! The O is blue, blue as the sea, like eternity. Blue as Homer’s eyes, which look out to the horizon, round as the wheel on Jule’s bike, which chases after Jim at top speed, round as the polka dots on Cleo’s dress. Monsieur O is called Pierrot as he is never himself apart from when he is looking at the moon. From his telescope, the Moon watches the Os multiply. He sees groups of legs gathering together, and masked baby dolls. “Paul in Pierrot” said Picasso. But Paul is Pierrot! From the sea to the town – and we love them both – the Nordic rooftops respond to Parisian apartments. This time you are looking for the O. The ambiguous and circular vowel, the ever watchful eye of Balzac, in Doinel’s bedroom. Monsieur O does not hang around, he’s a cheeky wolf.

“After all, how silly I am.” - that all seems far too inevitable.

Inspired by the following fi lms : À bout de souffl e (1960), Le Mépris (1963), Pierrot le fou (1965), Jean-Luc Godard. Les 400 coups (1958), Jules et Jim (1962), François Truffaut.

readiNG NoteS

The work of Charley Harper is an ecosystem in itself. A well-ordered

world, perfectly protected, where you can meet exotic animals and unheard of

species. After having traced them, we learn their latin names, Octulatia and Azaloceae. From the fingers of

Charley Harper grow long branches, covered in flowers. A picture book that

takes your breath away with beautiful illustrations, themes, and a whole host

of animals for you to tame! For all ages, 427 pages. Text in English.

Hermes is immortal, he invented fire and he defines the future. Prometheus promised him, Jason would come out the other side of it all. He gets tangled up in all sorts of twists and turns, yet manages to untangle himself, whilst our hero asks the most important questions. These stories are brilliant read aloud, for those who wish to know everything. “It’s beautiful!” murmured Hermes, when he had just come out of his mother’s stomach. Greek mythology reaches a new audience, with its serial format. It is hard not to ‘Oh!’ with surprise and ‘Ah!’ with amazement when reading this lovely book. For 6+ years, 288 pages. Text in French.

Surrealist poet, playwright and inspired novelist, Queneau has a way with words. He twists them, weaving them together,

forcing himself to abide by a convo-luted grammatical regime. Anagrams or

onomatopoeias, ode verses or alexan-drines. The same story – of a bus, a

commotion and a long-necked passen-ger – is told and illustrated 99 times, in

99 different ways. Grammatical exercis-es, to illustrate different stylistic effects. Great fun to peel each layer them away and imitate them in your own writing. A game where you will never be lost!

For 6+ years, 160 pages. Text in French.

Once upon a time there was a world filled with creatures with long ears, wearing aprons. In this world there was a character called Peter Rabbit! Beatrix Potter has a talent both with her pen and paintbrush, just as she painted the natural world, she creates the most magnificent characters. A perfect bedtime book, filled with twenty three stories, full of incredible characters and plenty of imagination. The Tailor of Gloucester has a talent for creating the perfect frock-coat decorated with ribbons. The beer is served by Cecily Parsley, whilst Ginger takes care of the grocer’s shop. For 3+ years, 400 pages. Available in french & english.

Little Fashion Gallery is getting involved. This autumn has seen the launching of a great artistic and charity event by LFG in favour of the charity Tout le monde chante contre le cancer. Working with Superéditions, a little book has been especially created for the occasion by the publishing house and given to about 30 designers and personalities. The Freaky King and Queen has thus been illustrated, customized and re-interpreted by Phillip Lim, Anne-Valérie Hash, Finger in the Nose, Marina Vandel… These unique masterpieces have been unveiled to the press and fashion world during a VIP preview on Thursday October 14th in a private mansion located in Paris.
