KEY WORDS OF KEY OU
ANAGRAM IS THERESULT OF REARRANGING THE LETTERS OF A WORD TO GET A NEW ONE.
NOUGH [ONE HUG]
In the car Martine? Oh no,
on the boat! The little heroine
scrambles off her watery
window ledge to tell her stories
to the waiting children. And one
thing is sure, she hasn’t wrinkled
a bit!
NTERTAINMENT [TEAM INER TENT]
Sponge bandana, fl uorescent
socks, cotton sneakers, fl ashy
sweat pants. Bingo, it all fi ts in
the bag! A cunning bag, because
when its full, it becomes a fl uffy
pillow. After the effort, time for
a break, and a chocolate medal
is well deserved by the little
athletes!
IGHTNING [NIGHT GLINT]
Pure light gets rid of all rudeness,
it plays with all that is precious and
doesn’t bother with unnecessary
things. Yet night is full of darkness
and things that are mighty, but
that’s another story.
ATIONAL POOL [NOT A LAIN LOOP!]
Two little divas swimming in
the pool. A national sport you’d
say? Oh no! There’s nothing like
looping around for a bit, then
stepping out for a tan!

ATIONAL POOL [NOT A LAIN LOOP!] ISCHIEVOUS [VOICES I HUM] ERFECTION [PERFECT I? NO!] IMPLICITY [CITY IS LIMP] AVANNA [A VAN AS]
Little dolls slip on their clogs,
and happily tip toe on
the cobblestones. When they
meet one another, it turns out
they’re quite mischievous!
As fashion is concerned,
they’ve got it all right, from
head to toe. How charming!
As lunch is getting ready, baby
is not hungry! He prefers playing
with the spoons and toying with
his food… And is thinking
about his next move with
the plates… Yes, perfection is
boring, so let’s break some rules!
When, in the big city, you get
fed up with strings and laces,
nothing is better than
Velcro! Slip in, slip on, it’s pure
simplicity! Scritch scratch and
off we go!
Deep down in the jungle, only
one Lion rules… And all his
followers wear tee-shirts with
his portrait on! As he roars,
even the bravest animals of
the savanna run away in fright!

9 THE ARCHITECTURE
2 THE CASTLE
KEY OUPERMUTED EMPIRE
The island of Ou is a peninSula where the alpine Sun always shines, close to the ocean.
A magic canoe is needed to reach it, which one could obtain with bold caution from Mica Gain, the mighty MaGician, for a handsome sum of gold coins.
On the island of Ou, lives a fine gentlewoman who reigns over a court of well-behaved and loyal subjects. This gentle ruler often wishes for mischief and likes her regal portraits
to feature her with three arms or two heads, but always with a lovely headband. Much to
the bemusement of her court.
Her castle is modest, her tastes minimalist. Every afternoon, this dame leaves the comfort
of her homestead, to go to the harbour. There, she watches (and sometimes joins) her peoples,
gently parading on the promenade. They feast their eyes, in boaStful wonder, on each other’s
extraordinary attires and on the wonderful boatS. There, they also discuss the present,
the past and the future in hushed tones.
No-one knows the real name of this perfectly-dressed lady. Her bewildering mother
never told her. No-one dared delve further, and torn, she accepted her nameless fate.
She took revenge when she became a Mum a few years later. She named her bouncy babies
caroline and cornelia.

“The Marni collection for children is a visual fi rework; at once cheerful and playful, each piece of clothing produces that surprise effect and instantly lightens your mood.” Marni unveils a very relevant line directly inspired from their women’s collection. We like the familiar poetical and geometric prints, and the abstract fl owers – all in delicious colours perfect for the season. A promising, spontaneous and colourful collection that we’re very proud to offer on Little Fashion Gallery this summer.

EXCLU
“Translating the A.P.C. range into a children’s line seemed natural”, highlights Judith Touitou, the artistic director of the brand. We’re very proud to present the A.P.C. capsule collection for children, designed exclusively for Little Fashion Gallery andavailable from 2 to 12 years, from 25€ on our site this summer. Perfectly cut, beautiful and timeless, this new line of children’s clothes is in keeping with what is one of the trendiest brands on the market. This light denim material and soft cotton jersey displays a parrot print that’s also reproduced on a shopping bag – one that all the Mums will defi nitely want to borrow!
READING: AN EDUCATIONAL PLEASURE • VIOLAINE BELLE-CROIX
One story, then off to bed. We choose the
book, a comfy position, hugs, and can finally
start with “once upon a time”… Who doesn’t
know this ritual? Weather we are parents, god
parents, cousins, aunts, nannies or babysitters,
we’ve all shared this delicious moment with kids.
Reading a story means feeling the pleasure of
sharing and transmitting, making a drawing
become a discovery. This childhoold initiation
gives children a passion for reading that, whilst
it starts as a shared experience, is to become
something intimate and secret. To read is to
become free, taking imagination a step further
and being autonomous. Making children
understand this is giving them the key to their
independence and their future, whether
they’re reading a book, an essay, a work
contract, or even a history course
Knowledge cannot exist without mastering
reading. “Jeunesse Edition” is lively, intelligent,
gay, beautiful and full of diversity. And if we
give ourselves the time to look, watch, find,
and sometimes even bargain hunt, we can put
together a library that will be able to create the
desire to read in a child, even before they start
school. This Little Fashion Book is the proof:
the three trendy queens are three incarnations
of the French language “figure de style”.
Through their story you will allow your child to
familiarize themselves with anagrams on Key Ou,
the palindrome on Key Li and the lipogram on
Key Po. And without even realizing it, they will
easily master these notions without giving
them a name... The goal is to stimulate their need
to learn in a playful way. Reading Cars or Dora
is of course not to be banned, but it should be
mixed in with a diverse collection of books,
capable of presenting to children a varied view
of children’s literature.
REPORTAGE
Diversity is a necessary quality for a
good library; so show it to them! We’ve wanted
to look in two directions on this subject and
so have spoken to both Olivier Douzou,
Editor in Chef of “Edition de Rouergue”,
and a mother with a desire to transmit an
ancestral passion for reading to her children.
READING IS BECOMING FREE.”“
Anne Laporte: book worm and mother of three children ( 2, 5 and 7 years old)
I would never have foreseen the fact that mykids wouldn’t like reading, as I myself have always been such a “book worm” – something I’ve always tried to transmit to them by offering them books on many occasions! I’d like them to develop their imagination and ability to reflect… I’m not sure my children learn as they read, but I think their personality’s get richer and their eyes become more sensitive to what surrounds them, as I will generally choose books that catch my eye with graphics, illustrations, or themes…
To begin with Rouegue – what are your
plans? To continue to work on new reading
angles and, through my job as an editor, to give
birth to what doesn’t yet exist.
What are the values that define the
publishing company? There are no specific
skills required, only a desire for new ideas.
I would define it as an ‘off the wall’ editorial line.
Your definition of reading? Freedom.
How do you manage to make children
feel free? By playing with the rules and
the scenery of the reader; counting on their
curiosity and ability to know that they don’t
know everything.
What was your aim in publishing
la dispa.ition ? First, it was to present the new
Rouergue identity, and play around a letter that,
before having a sound and a meaning, had
a shape. La Dispa.ition is a way to show those
that are learning to read, that as they write,
the shape of the letters takes over the images.
When you write, do you enjoy working
under constraint? Yes, and I also push myself
into it. Its something common to the majority
of my books...
How do you explain and transmit
the Oulipo to children? Explaining Oulipo
to children as they read ends up being an
experiment with text and images; one that offers
a whole lot of possibilities! It shows them
combinations and demonstrates a new way of
reading; so making books the way I picture them!
Scenographer, illustrator, designer, author…
What are you aiming for next? I don’t know,
but being an editor is keeping me quite busy.
Animated films do attract me, as well as architecture
(since my degree…), and I’d love to try out
the IBook as I feel there is much to explore.
What are you working on now?
In March, we’ll publish a book collated by Anouk
Ricard: Poèmes de terre. It’s a small collection of
poems in which the protagonists are rhymes,
that also serves an exploratory exercise on the
French “figure de style”. will be explored. We will also
launch Fourmi, a book for little ones on negative/
positive, and all the different ways one can read an
image. Finally, some graphic work with a Museum
in Guadaloupe, the preparation of the 2012 book
Festival in Montreuil, Michel and Sebastien Bras’s
restaurent at the musée Soulages and…

You’ve missed the ice cream

the last cookie? Oh how
horribly frustrating! But don’t
panic, you’ll be thrilled with
this big bucket of fries and
a nice burger. The lovely song

One never knows how money
turns out sometimes! And as
the little cashier counts all her
coins, she dreams of all the
candy she will be able to treat

the best investment she’s made!
Ah! Imagine what you can see
through a telescope… All the
different planets, the moon,
the stars… Radar! Radar! I can

everywhere! So why not wrap
yourself into those Milky Way

This season, the sheriff is not

Wow! Have you ever been to the Island of Li? It’s the island where colours pop in unison
and where fun slithers in the streets. We first reached the Island of Li by noon but also by fluke,
as we were learning to kayak on the river Lo. All we could see was a giant castle perched
on top of a rock, which we could hear all manner of happy sounds. What dizzying noises they were!
If we were in a dooM Mood from our hazardous trip on the river of LO, all our tension disappeared
quickly on hearing these hilarious songs. “yo, bob! MuG o’GuMbo, boy!” What joy!
We decided to explore this happy isle, keen to discover what made its inhabitants so ecstatic.
We learnt that Key Li was governed by an archduchess, whose sole aim was to have fun.
She was the great MadaM of merriment and for that, her people had deified her. Her madness
and warmth were legendary. When she welcomed us into her kingdom with such hospitality,
we became redder than red with excitement. During our stay, we danced, we smiled, we laughed, we jumped, we bounced and even drove
a shiny yellow racecar! This amusing archduchess quickly became our best friend, just like
that in one afternoon. We decided to abandon both our kayak and our journey, to instead spend
a few weeks riding on rollercoasters with our great new friend, archduchess hannah.

MUSTHAVENEW
“I wanted to design a line for children that would be adorable yet refi ned” explains Cordelia de Castellane. This summer Little Fashion Gallery welcomes the brand with a pastel selection. For girls we chose fl owery print blouses with a Japanese look, to match with well-cut and brightly-coloured unisex trousers. And the must-have? Fluorescent pink! For boys, seersucker is recurrent on jackets, and this season unveils a capsule collection designed in collaboration with the ex-designer of Zadig & Voltaire!
Your childrens’ closets require basic pieces, and we don’t always think of American Apparel for kids & babies. Such a shame! Little Fashion Gallery offers a large selection of their bodies, T-shirts and tank tops, each carefully made in a Los Angelesfactory that uses soft, comfortable and often organic cotton. As for the colours, whether pastel or bright, they’re totally trendy and make for a one-of-a-kind style!

REPORTAGE
A child’s world inside the house can’t be
merely reduced to his or her bedroom: their
toys are to be found everywhere - tiny
design pieces forming part of every room,
like the epitome of a sacralised childhood.
This blurring of space separation inherited
from the 70s nomadic spirit, doesn’t eradicate
the sacred character of the child’s room
though, since its organization is actually
one of any new parents’ main preoccupations.
We project all our dreams onto the child to
freedom to express oneself, and it can quickly turn
into an exhibition room with all the underlying
temptations. Contemporary design aficionados
will choose smart and pragmatic furniture,
whereas antique lovers will opt for anti-durability
and consider every step of the child’s evolution as
the perfect excuse to look for the ideal piece.
Here are some ideas for both categories...
The bed iSSue. There is a true hesitation
between the adjustable bed, which can be
adapted to the phases of a child’s evolution,
and the old bed, found in an antiques fair. For
the early days, however, the child’s safety should
be the absolute priority, and a bed with bars that
meets the required standards should be used
before looking for the ideal vintage piece.
Little Fashion Gallery thus suggests the
Œuf NYC adjustable bed with leaning feet.
The vintage choice: after the classic bed
with bars (Ikea), a 50’s couch can be re-used
as the perfect children’s bed.

crystallizes the parents’ fantasies. The child’s

for meaning. This is a space where one has the Bottom: apple shape cushion, Œuf NYC, 50 €. Garland, Lucky Boy Sunday, 30 €.

TidyinG up the toyS. Better than the
usual toy box, which takes up too much space
and literally swallows the tiniest of toys, a low
shelf enables the child to tidy up his/her toys
while serving as a game support as well. Little
Fashion Gallery suggests the Œuf NYC
mini book shelf which has a playful look and
closing and opening parts; or the box/ low
table by Nonjetable, with a variety of spaces it
makes a clever alternative to the classic toy box.
The vintage option: a wall shelf laid on the
floor that can later go back to being used for its
initial purpose! Its reduced space leads to natural
selection and tidiness
More...
• The book Mobilier design pour enfants, by Carole Daprey (Picpoq editions) highlights the key pieces of children’s design from the 20s to the 70s.
• The site http://kidsroomzoom.wordpress.com,the “how old r u?” section is all about artists, journalists, designers and photographers thatremember or imagine their childhood bed.A mixture of fantasy and moving recollection, their answers are often funny and inspiring.
An adapted Scale. Like a parallel
universe adapted to his/her size, a child’s
furniture can be placed everywhere in the
house. Here a chair, there a small desk or a little
table. The child will thus learn the first basics
of autonomy.
Above: vintage shelves. Car Max, Sirch, 102 €.Opposite: all is vintage.
Little Fashion Gallery unveils the whole
furniture range by Sirch, including
three rocking stools, each a different size,
that serve both as seats and game supports.
The vintage option: several school chairs in
various shapes and colours that can be displayed
throughout the house. In front of a desk or a
book shelf, or as a night table, they have many
uses.

KEY POTHE FORBIDDEN LETTER
On Key Po resided the most splendid but fierce of princesses, Princess Chloe.
Revered by her subjects, who trembled in her presence, she used to insist on some uncompromising rules.
If these were not followed, her moods could turn sombre. Her shouting could turn her peers into stone.
Her whining could switch off the entire isle’s lights. Her grumbling could frighten monsters. No joking.
The most inflexible of her rules consisted of never, never, never, ever using the first letter. You know,
the first letter? If Princess Chloe discovered her subjects were using this letter, she would fly into the most
incredible fury. If she ever got wind of someone uttering one word with the forbidden letter, she just couldn’t
control her outburst. Her subjects were used to it. Therefore, they were extremely prudent in their discussions. Even the court’s smitten poet needed to comply with this curious rule. The news of his predecessor’s
fortune surely kept him on his toes. The poor devil ended up being thrown out of the kingdom, into
the surrounding desert, never to return.
But one evening, while he devotedly recited to her the poem professing his undying love, he slipped.
She went red. She went redder. Redder more. He froze. She shouted: “who permitted you to use the forbidden
letter?”. “So sorry, your Highness, so sorry,” he muttered. “I used the letter to refer to the love I possess for you,
do forgive me.”
She thought for two minutes. “He is nice, this poet. Do I wish to lose him?” The truth is she found this rule
quite tiring. She slowly got up from her throne and with immense gusto, bellowed:
“argh, never mind this abominable rule! I am exhausted by it. I abolish it now!”
The whole kingdom quickly got hold of the news. Everyone rejoiced with cries of ah ah ah ah ah!!!

”“ LET’S GET STARRY, YET INCOGNITO.
There’s pixie dust on Island Po’s trends: but a magician (or anunscrupulous princess!) is stealing people’s clothes! Soto remain unnoticed, let’s opt for chameleon outfitsin pastel or iridescent colours; let’s get starry, yetincognito! The materials in the closet are diaphanous:muslin, poplin or light jersey – easy to slip away in.Any must-haves? The frilled tutu skirt, declined infairy tulle! And if at night all cats are grey, in thedaytime Po’s inhabitants sunbathe in saffron colours.

SHOPPING DESIGN
On Key Po we love poetry, potpourris with roses and being pampered. In the young ladies’ bedrooms, you see hair brushes made of unicorn hair, necklaces with oyster pearls and white rabbits in a hurry. In the evening, we color Princess Chloe’s dresses on a nice coloring book in the moonlight. The inhabitants have cats and domestic butterflies, and most of them collect shooting stars and paper swans. But all is well concealed in polka dot suitcases which are duly locked.
ON KEY PO WE LOVE POETRY.”“
