AUTHORS BIOGHRAPHY

Jules Gabriel Verne(French:[yl vn]; 8 February 1828 24 March 1905)[1]was aFrenchnovelist, poet, andplaywrightbest known for hisadventure novelsand his profound influence on the literary genre ofscience fiction.Born to bourgeois parents in the seaport ofNantes, Verne was trained to follow in his father's footsteps as a lawyer, but quit the profession early in life to write for magazines and the stage. His collaboration with the publisherPierre-Jules Hetzelled to the creation of theVoyages Extraordinaires, a widely popular series of scrupulously researched adventure novels includingJourney to the Center of the Earth,Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, andAround the World in Eighty Days.Apart from the above mentioned very well known science fiction books, there is a another category of popular books by Jules Verne, which include the following: 1873 -Around the World in Eighty Days, which describes the journey undertaken for a bet by an eccentric Englishman called Phileas Fogg. The mood is humorous and the pace fast moving. But, there are also serious points to the work - for Verne, the shrinking of the world is caused notably by the end of the age of exploration and the building of the railways. In 1905 he fell seriously ill from diabetes and died in the city of Amines. On Vernes death. The Invasion of The Sea and The Lighthouse at the end of the World were in the course of publication. Michel, his son then took responsibility for the remaining manuscripts and published them later. It was only in 1978 that it was discovered that the Jules Verne books that appeared posthumously had a major part of their writing done by Michel. This came as a surprise to many. The simplicity of Vernes life seems to be in opposition to the complexity of his works.
