Fay Stanley’s The Last Princess: The Story of Princess Ka'iulani of Hawai‘i provides an excellent source of historical authenticity. This book used vivid illustrations to accompany the historical background information Stanley wrote about Princess Ka’iulani. The plot was a key element for this book. In order to get the historical information about the last heir of Hawaii, Stanley used figurative language to make the reader feel like they were in Hawaii in 1800’s. The illustrations depict the image of Princess Ka’iulani and how she grew up from a infant to the woman she is known for today in Hawaii’s history. The plot goes through conflicts in which Princess Ka’iulani faces in Hawaii and how she dealt with every obstacle in her life.
