White-tailed Deer

Its coat changes frombrown in the summer to

Caribou
Popularly known as Reindeer,
this deer inhabits the Arctic and

and female grow antlers. Theyhave two thick layers of woolly

are solitary creatures and prefer to roamalone. They emit a deep bark-like sound
(hence the name Barking Deer ), if theysense danger approaching. This species is
omnivorous, and is known to eat birdeggs along with grass and shoots.
Sambar
Native to Southeast Asia, this deer is foundin almost all parts of Asia. These deer have
three-tined antlers, which are used to carveknives and handles. Living in forests, these
creatures are easy preys for tigers, leopards,and crocodiles. They stomp their hooves as a
warning signal.
Sika Deer

Its name comes from theword "shika" which meansdeer in Japanese language.Its also called Spotted
Deer. It is found all overEastern Asia. During themating season, males utterloud shrill whistles that canbe heard over a mile away.These deer were prized fortheir velvet antlers in Chinaand Taiwan.
