INTRODUCTION

Your lips are one of your most prominent features and one that is linked to beauty,

youth and sensuality.

Volume loss is one of the primary reasons why we start

to look older.

With age, the facial tissue gradually becomes thinner and

there is no topical treatment that can reverse this. The

lips and mouth can both be affected by volume loss as

well as other age-related concerns and lifestyle choices

such as smoking.

Lip fillers have gained immense popularity in recent years

and when administered correctly, can leave you with

a fuller, younger looking mouth without the treatment

results being obvious to outsiders.

The popularity of lip fillers speaks for itself – millions of

women and countless men enhance their lips every year.

However, this is still a medical procedure, which means

it’s essential to understand more about this treatment

option and what you can expect.

F ILLERS AREN’T JUST FOR ADDING VOLUME

The vast majority of patients use dermal fillers to

increase the size and enhance the shape of their lips.

What you may not realise is that this increase in volume

has a knock-on smoothing effect that will iron out any

lines that have formed around the mouth or on the upper

lip. Finally, dermal filler can also be used to define the

borders of the lips.

LIP FILLERS – HOW DO THEY WORK?Fillers are made up of a gel-like substance that is injected

just underneath the surface of the skin to increase

volume in that area.

There are several different types of fillers but when

it comes to lip augmentation, hyaluronic acid-based

fillers are used. This particular type of dermal filler is

still the most popular choice because hyaluronic acid is

naturally produced by the body. Along with it providing

instantaneous enhancement, it will also stimulate

collagen production, which will benefit the mouth area

over the long term.

Other types of dermal fillers contain more complex

ingredients, some of which are man-made, which tend

to make the results last longer than traditional HA filler.

The amazing thing about the fillers that we use here at

Dr Anh’s Medispa, is that they are formulated to attract

water molecules, meaning you will get a boost of

hydration to the area! This can help with tone, texture and

appearance.

Excluding your consultation, the average lip filler session

takes less than 15 minutes. The additional time will be

used to discuss your medical history, expectations and

to apply a topical numbing agent that will make the

treatment more comfortable.

Our injectors have an incredible attention to detail and

combine artistry with science to give you incredible

results. We want you to have an amazing experience

in our clinics, so we will apply a topical anaesthetic to

the injection sites to minimise the discomfort of the

procedure. Our injectors then set about integrating

premium fillers into the areas where they are needed the

most. All up the procedure takes about 20 minutes.

The key to creating the best outcome is to ensure the

increase in volume will be proportionate to and suit the

rest of your facial features. If the lips are overfilled, the

results won’t look or feel natural.

THE TREATMENT PROCESS

Patients are free to return to their usual routine following

their lip filler session. However, strenuous exercise and

any activities that might place pressure on the face are

discouraged. Dermal filler needs a day or two to settle or

it could end up migrating, which is also why it’s essential

not to touch your lips too often after your appointment.

Another way to prevent the filler from migrating is to

sleep on your back for several days.

Swelling and bruising is to be expected following

cosmetic injections but these effects will gradually

subside over the course of the next two weeks. Makeup

can also be used to cover it up if need be.

If for any reason you are unhappy with the results of your

treatment, a dissolving agent can be used to reverse the

effects of the injections. We want you to get the best

result possible, this is why we will see you 2 weeks

following your appointment. At you follow up you may

even decide to have additional filler added.

Results will be noticeable directly after your lip filler

session. However, it’s important to wait for any swelling

to subside before you decide whether you’re happy with

your results.

In some instances, a second treatment may be necessary

to see the results you were hoping for. Ongoing sessions

will also be required in order to maintain the size and

shape of your lips. Patients are free to stop filling their

lips at any point, after which they will gradually return to

normal. The results of your lip filler injections can last up

to six months but this is dependant on how quickly your

body metabolises the ingredients.

If you want to keep your lips looking and feeling good,

stay hydrated and use a high-quality lip balm that

contains sunscreen once your lips are healed.
