Lions Gate Christian Academy Newsletter – October 24 th , 2019 Dear Parents, If you give some of your own food to [feed] those who are hungry and to satisfy [the needs of] those who are humble, then your light will rise in the dark, and your darkness will become as bright as the noonday sun. Isaiah 58:10 The harvest time in the fall is such a beautiful time of year. For those in the agricultural industry, it's a time when they reap the benefits of their season of toil. Growing up in New Brunswick, we actually had a 2-3 week “Potato Break” in the fall during which time students were released from school to help with the fall harvest. In fact, this practice just ended in 2012. When I mention this to my friends out here on the West Coast, it's often met with a very wide-eyed response. As we celebrate this beautiful season, next Thursday, October 31 we will allow Elementary students to wear their fall harvest colours (red, yellow, brown, orange, etc.) with jeans or a bottom of harvest colours. Rather than this being a fundraiser, this will be a food raiser, with all collected items going to the The North Vancouver Harvest Project Food Bank. If your child would like to wear harvest colours instead of their uniform next Thursday, they are asked to please bring at least one nonperishable food item to their homeroom. Please note: this is not a costume day but rather a time to celebrate the fall harvest wearing your fall harvest colours as we partner with The North Vancouver Harvest Project Food Bank to help those who are less fortunate around us. Students choosing not to participate in this event are expected to wear their regular school uniform. Adam Reid - Principal LGCA’s Annual Gateway Fundraiser Please see the attached information regarding the LGCA Gateway Fund Annual Report for the 2019-2020 school year. As November approaches, we are gearing up for our Fall Fundraiser Campaign: “Be Part of our School”. More details will follow, but you will soon see a creative graphic waiting to take shape on the bulletin board in the foyer as you enter the school. Every year we come to our LGCA community for TWO MAJOR fundraisers: the one occurring in November and our Spring Celebration in May. We need every family to contribute to make these two fundraisers successful. Please be prayerful on how you will support these important fundraisers and be ready to do your part to support LGCA. FYI: We do offer other fundraisers that are voluntary, such as: our Purdy’s chocolates, Gift Card Orders, etc. For these voluntary fundraisers, the idea is that if you are going to buy chocolates for Christmas, why not buy them from LGCA and support LGCA? If you are going to buy gift cards, why not buy them from us and help support LGCA? etc. They are meant to provide a service to you and help LGCA at the same time.

LGCA’s Gateway Fund – Annual Report November 2019 What is the Gateway Fund? Simply it’s a way of clearly communicating with our LGCA community the current and future needs of our school. LGCA has a strong history of support from its founding parents in 1994 through to today’s current families, alumni, faculty and staff. The attached page is a diagram of our fundraising needs for this year and how we intend to meet them. Each year LGCA relies on our parents to participate in two major fundraisers. As these are the only major school fundraisers during the year - we ask that every family gets involved and donates. Every dollar donated helps us. The Gateway Fund is comprised of:

• The November Fall Fundraiser for 2019 is “Be Part of our School” • The Spring Celebration scheduled on Thursday, May 28th, 2020 at BlueShore Financial

Centre for the Performing Arts In addition to our two major fundraisers for the school, this year we have some voluntary fundraisers such as Purdys chocolates, Gift Card Orders, etc. For these voluntary fundraisers, the idea is that if you are going to buy chocolates or gift cards, why not buy them from LGCA and support the school? The voluntary fundraisers are meant to provide a service to our community.

Look out for further details next week for the Fall Drive commencing November, 2019! Thank you for prayerfully being part of the way God provides for LGCA.

Sincerely,

Adam Reid Heather Roex Principal Registrar/Public Relations
