International President's Certificate of Appreciation for their work in helping make District 8-I the best that it can be. Lion Britt will receive her certificate at a later date as she was unable to attend due to a family conflict. Congratu-lations to both and a big THANK YOU!
I encourage each of you to register for the upcom-ing State Convention to be held in Lafayette, April 21-23. Attached is a reg-istration form. If you've not attended a state con-vention, this is a great to year to start!! You meet Lions from around the sate. Learn about how Lions works at the state level AND this year get to hear a Past International President speak. It's time well spent.
Thank you for what you do for Lions and for your community...
Barry Stevens
District Governor
District 8-I
The District 8-I Conven-tion is behind us. Many Lions from around the District and the State gathered in West Mon-roe Friday, February 3rd and Saturday, February 4th. Friday night Lions enjoyed a Mexican buf-fet and entertainment from Monroe Downtown Lions Club Secretary/Treasurer Rich Bailey and his son-in-law Ma-son Granade. If you missed their perfor-mance, you missed a great time. Dr. Jayne S. Weiss, M.D. began the day Saturday with her presentation followed by International Director Sam Lindsey, Jr.. After lunch, PDG Scott Dud-ley from the Baton Rouge Southeast Lions Club spoke to those in attendance about Lead-er Dogs for the Blind. Saturday evening we returned to the Kiroli Park lodge for a seafood buffet. International Di-rector Sam Lindsey, Jr. spoke from the heart about his experiences with Lions through the years and what it truly means to Serve. All in all it was a great week-end.
Thanks to the following clubs for their contribu-tions to the conven-tion...Alexandria Lions
Club, Bunkie Lions Club, Jonesville Lions Club, MacArthur Drive Lions Club, Mer Rouge Lions Club, Monroe Downtown Lions Club, Pineville Li-ons Club and the Winns-boro Lions Club. Your contributions and partici-pation helped made it a great weekend. Special thanks to the following Lions for helping make the weekend what it was, Lion Viola Britt, First VDG Debbie Fitzgerald, PDG Robert "Bob" Fitz-gerald, PDG Edward Frost and Lion Hilda Frost. Your contributions were invaluable.
To all the Lions who at-tended, thank you! It was noted that there were a good number of Lions who were attend-ing their very first District convention. I was very glad to see that. We need more participation at the District level. There is much to be done and very few to do the work. Your involve-ment is critical to the success of District 8-I.
Last and certainly not least, we recognized two Lions who have made significant contributions to District 8-I. Lion Viola Britt and Lion Robert "Bob" Fitzgerald were both recognized with a
