Social Impact Evaluation using Social Return on Investment
National Audit Office Report (NAO)• Department for Education (DfE) oversight of Special Education
for Young People aged 16 to 25 (published on the 4/11/13)
• Cost of supporting a person with moderate learning difficulty from age 16 to 64 is £2-3m
• Providing learners with skills to live semi independently saves £1m on that figure and progressing them into employment saves another £170,000
• NAO wanted to build on this analysis of lifetime benefits and costs so that the relationship of special education interventions to longer term outcomes can be better understood
